🇺🇦 Join me on a heart-wrenching journey through Life in Kyiv during the war under relentless Russian missile attacks. As an ordinary teacher at Kyiv University, I share my personal experience of loss, living with my 2 kids, and 2 pets amidst the chaos. Russians took my husband, and every day I witness the strength of Ukrainians facing the harsh reality of war.
🔍 A week before the full-scale WAR began, I asked random people if they believed Russia would attack. Most said no, blinded by the notion of brotherhood. The harsh truth unfolded, revealing the impact of brainwashing in churches, schools, and parliament. Pro-Russian MPs were traitors, and we strive to rid ourselves of everything Russian - renaming streets, metro stations, and removing monuments.
🛑 This is not just a story of survival; it's a call for solidarity. Join me in exploring the relentless spirit of Ukrainians as we strive to build a future free from the shadow of those who seek to harm us. Discover the resilience of a nation determined to erase everything Russian, for the sake of a brighter tomorrow. 🕊️ #kyiv

    Vita,
I am a hobbyist photographer, I understand your frustration with the perceived quality of an image. Vita the truth is the the story does not depend on pixels. Vita you are a brilliant storyteller. I am honored to hear and feel your stories of Freedom. We should never take for granted the importance and sacrifice of Freedom.

Thank you Vita. I know I don't always write a comment right after you post your videos. Sometimes, even after I think for a long time, I'm still speechless.
Before ruzzia started their full scale invasion I felt like they would do it. There are a couple of things that surprised me though. First, I really thought they would start their Special Murder Operation before the Olympics. Second, I didn't think Ukraine could survive for even a few days or weeks. Third, I didn't know how much I would learn about Ukraine although I knew a little. For example I was familiar with what we in the US call "Carol of the Bells." But I now know a lot more about the ancient Ukrainian folk song. And I was even able to teach my musician sister a little about Щедрик. And I could name the opening song in this video in less than four notes. The more I learn about Ukraine the more I understand how important you are.

The dynamic between your dog and cat is a good analogy for the relationship between Russia and Ukraine. The cat (Ukraine) tolerates the dog (Russia) until the dog ventures too far into the cat’s territory. The cat has no choice but to tolerate the presence of the dog since they live in the same apartment. The dog tests and pushes his boundaries and tries various attitudes, from friendly tail wagging to feigned nonchalance, while the cat, unmoved, observes the façade. In the end, the dog will learn where the boundaries are, but the cat will always know to be wary. 🇺🇦

Hi Vita, this was such a great video, one of your best. Language becomes such an important factor during wars. While the science of propaganda provides the structure and skeleton, the words become the actual meat that is visible or heard by the targeted audience. As a student of history, I disagree with pulling down the statues of poets and writers whose works have universal meaning and message for mankind, even in other languages. I disagree with destroying the Soviet mosaics as they are a part of Ukraine's past. You should not allow Putin to destroy your past, even if it is a painful past. I have seen these things done in other countries with mixed results. After all, it is not the fault of the Russian language, but rather Putin and his propagandists who use the language as an instrument to deceive; just like a gun is not at fault during wars, a gun can save life (when it deters violence) or alternatively when it kills an injures. Both language and gun can be the instrument of good or bad. You can change you can use language too to belittle the enemy, by calling the sounds of Russian explosions "Russian Thunderstorm! or useless fireworks" and the sound of Ukrainian sirens "Ukrainian Nutcracker! or "The Zelenskyy Symphony!". I think your kitty has the right attitude (easier said than done). In my heart, I believe Ukrainians are a great people and Ukraine has a LOT of potential. The biggest enemy of Ukraine is not Putin or Russians, it is corruption and not having a transparent government and financial institutions. I think this war may have directly aided Ukraine to become more transparent, since the donor countries are demanding it and are watching how Ukraine is spending the resources that the taxpayers of the donor countries are funding. So, in a very strange way, Putin is actually helping Ukraine to get stronger and more transparent, and the harder Putin fights the stronger and better Ukraine will become. I wish Ukraine and its good people sunny and peaceful days ahead. Slava Ukraini🎉

I was in Kyiv the first week in January of 2024. I've been to that very metro station and looked at those same signs: green and blue lines I continue to listen to your commentary and when you said that you were crying, I realized my eyes had moistened. Art is important and the shift away from russian art is really a tragedy since russia could have become a friendly country with greatness had it not instead attacked Ukraine and possessed such hatred for the world. Respect to you for your work 😊🐱 I wish you well . I have Ukrainian friends here in Ireland. One friend has had to bring her father here as he's suffering from Parkinson's disease and the bombing is difficult to cope with when you are ill. She still has family in Ukraine and fighting. Another friend has a mother in Luhansk who has been forced to use a Russian passport. She doesn't know if she will see her again.
The Russian population is being decreased by the fighting and there's not enough workers for the factories in Russia. The exchange rate of the ruble means that immigrant workers will not find it worth coming to Russia for work. Probably the pension age will be increased.
I doubt that the Russian population all support this aggressive action. Women have tried to protest but suffered severe consequences as a result. The economy of Russia is suffering. Every month it's been in deficit in 2023. The National Wealth Fund is decreasing at a rapid rate. Oil production is way down and India is increasingly buying from Iran. Excess oil produced is impossible to store as Russia has no storage facilities. They could face problems with the wells which are located in very cold areas and the foreign investors have withdrawn technology and technicians.

Forced to use Russian passport? When traveled to Russian border north east from Kiev almost everyone has Russian passports, few of us has other passports Ukrainian, me Serbian and other guy Moldavian passport. Question is those people with Russian passports who bought ticket and travel from Kiev, are they Russians or Ukrainians? It was 2021g before war. Nobody is forced there, you have families 2 brothers from same mother, 1 fight for Ukraine, other brother fight for Russia or Donetsk/Luhansk peoples republic.... horrible image and reality of war.

Out of respect for Ukraine I now spell Kyiv the way Ukrainians do when they communicate in English. I follow Kyiv Independent, Kyiv Post and other Ukrainian channels. I've watched countless videos by Ukrainians where Kyiv is in the title or description. I've seen explanations of why Ukrainians prefer that their capital city be spelled Kyiv. And when using the Cyrillic alphabet why they prefer Київ over Киев. And when I put Kyiv into GT to translate into Serbian it says Кијев.

It is understandable, that Ukraine may want to remove many physical signs of the Soviet Era. But some, e.g. Socialist-Realistic artwork should also be preserved, maybe in a sculpture park like outside of Budapest. Even unpleasant parts of history must be preserved, so that they can be documented and not "rewritten" by later generations. A good example is preservation of concentration camps. If these had been torn down right after WW2, it would have been easier to claim, that Holocaust had never taken place. Our cities, buildings, monuments, parks et cetera are also "open history books" and if we destroy everything unpleasant without consideration, we shall be missing those pages in our history book.

@@ThinkUkraine Yes, storage, but not necessarily destruction. Right now, emotions are running high, but in 50 or 100 years' time, it will be important to be able to document what Soviet monumental art, brutalism, social realism looked like. If you ever get around Berlin, visit Deutsches Historisches Museum. They are also covering the Third Reich period, despite its sensitivity. It is weird to look at e.g. the exactly same artworks, the exact same painting or sculpture, that Adolf Hitler has praised maybe 8 decades ago.
