    “Don’t come off desperate”
But also “tailor your entire being to a company that may not offer you a job”
    Love this process so much

Its crazy that it comes off as desperate when someone is blasting their resume to many companies or the same company. Times are hard. People can’t even get unemployment. Many are just trying to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. It should come off as someone willing to work and doesn’t matter what job it is.

    • @asadb1990
      @asadb1990 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

the thing is many recruiters really only want a highly experienced person to put in front on client. and in these cases client wants someone who knows the process from the get go.

    So then....
    1) Don't say too much and don't say too little. Say enough to make them drool over your resume with stoned eyes.
    2) Don't give too much detail and don't give too less detail. Measure the amount before sending in the application.
    3) Don't let them know every skill you have learnt for the job that maybe useful
    4) Don't breathe too much and don't breathe too little
    5) Don't send in too many applications even though you maybe homeless by next month
cause appearing desperate to survive is a turnoff
    6) Make your resume exciting even though you are just starting off to build a career and have no experience as a VP or CEO.
Every job seeker is desperate unless you are working for fun and have access to your rich daddy's moolah. It's easy to say don't be desperate but with the amount of ignorance from companies and the use of automation technology for interviews and the manual effort required by application systems making applicants spend countless hours tailoring their resume and cover letter to each job .....WHO WOULDN'T TURN INTO A DESPO? . There is no guarantee of anything and no rule that when you spend hours on few applications in the name of quality instead of quantity that you will receive that interview for sure. Infact, you feel more desperate for not hearing back when you made extra efforts on one job application vs many.

Reason #7: The job was posted as part of state/federal requirement or it was posted for someone from within the company or an acquaintance to apply. A DL from a retail pharmacy revealed that to me when I told her I had applied for 37 Pharmacist role and have been rejected all 37 times. Truth of the matter is that the economy is bad due to COVID-19. I have done it all; spent approx $1000 but recruiters are not calling. The God whom I serve will give me a job in due season. Am patient and continue to exploit

More importantly, she tries to sell her resume services so you can "spice" up your piece of paper loaded with credentials and experience only to have it over looked within 5 seconds. No thanks. If someone is looking for the "perfect" resume and they only glance at each resume before tossing it in the trash, you're wasting your money and time.

I’m sorry, but #3 is discrimination. I’ve been an Executive Assistant with multiple companies and all I would hear in exec meetings is that they can’t find good candidates and that they are tired of people getting a job and not staying. You mean to tell me that because the HM is in their feelings about who they “keep seeing”, jobs have to suck. They are part of the reason why many companies are struggling. They keep hiring who they “feel” is right for the job rather than who is QUALIFIED.

Can also be mixed with lack of information on the best way to apply for jobs - as stated.

The biggest problem is that 75% of the resumes are filtered by the applicant tracking system (ATS) robot because you don’t match the keywords and key phrases that are in there. Perhaps the second biggest reason is that you failed the knockout questions that are meant to screen unqualified/poorly qualified candidates. Read the job descriptions and reverse engineer the keywords and you’ll get by the ATS without any issues.

    • @asadb1990

Spending 5 secs reviewing a resume is a great insight. It says the resume needs to be superficial or else it'll get overlooked. Five seconds is absolutely not enough time to gain a great understanding of the candidate and their experience. If they don't have the superficial buzz terms you're looking for they get passed up.

Great tips! It's also always in the candidate's best interest to 'connect the dots' for the employer. That means mirroring the language from the job description in your resume and showing the links between what you bring as a candidate and what the employer is looking for. Your point around not sending tons of resumes to anything and everything, even if it doesn't match their experience is really valid. Back in my recruiting days there were candidates who the HR team knew by name. I remember one in particular who had applied for over 50 jobs at the company! She never got an interview because it seemed that she had no idea what she actually wanted.

    Hello Linda,
I hope this message reaches you.
I live in London (UK), and I wanted to ask you two questions.
Firstly, how much of your CV and career advice is relevant and valid for job seekers like me, who live in the UK?
Secondly, I have a chronic medical condition which is Osteoarthritis, and due to my medical condition I have been unable to work in any professional job position since May 2018. Therefore, I have been unemployed for the past 2 and a half years.

I can no longer financially afford to be unemployed and I need to start working in a part-time job position as soon as possible, so that I can pay for my basic necessities such as food, housing costs etc.
I also need to pay for my healthcare treatments.

I have applied for over 30 jobs, but I have not had any interviews or job offers.

I would immensely appreciate it and be eternally grateful to you if you could do a TH-cam video or a blog article which explains what you would do if you were in my situation, and how you would explain the employment gap on your CV.
Also, what would you if you needed to get a part-time job as soon as possible but you also needed a job where the employer and company would understand and support your medical condition and provide you with the necessary workplace adjustments that you need in order to be able to effectively undertake your job role.
I look forward to your reply,
    Thank you very much,
    Kind regards,
    Tom White.

I applied 3x for that position that I meet every qualification on, and I had a professional resume writer tailor my resume. I never heard back each time, and couldn’t even get through when I called the office number. So now I resort to sucking it up and finding somewhere else. It’s entry level too, I’m not aiming for the damn General Manager position, the least these hiring managers could do is give a call or email to just stop giving people hope and anticipation.

With the U.S.A. on the brink of a second great depression, my hope is the government will finally realize its responsibility and, as it did in the F.D.R. New Deal, become the employer of last resort. I guess that will change if not eliminate the whole H.R./headhunting racket, if everyone out of a job can get one with Uncle Sam. You won't have to tailor your resume for every job opening because employers will be looking for you more than you are looking for them. Wouldn't that be nice?

The biggest problem is the current employment design has 99.9% of the population working for a single company. So when that company suffers and drops you then suddenly it's a financial problem with zero income arriving. Ideally all civilized countries should have a design were everyone is working for 2 or 3 companies thus Monday/Tuesday is company_A, Wednesday/Thursday is company_B and the optional days on weekends with company_C. This way when someone loses their job it doesn't become an instant financial problem, the individual can continue working while actively seeking another place to work.

In fact I would keep my name so that they wouldn’t waste your time by inviting you in for an interview if they were going to discriminate you and not give you the job in the first place.
