A final thought. I believe a step in the right direction, for me personally, is to NOT gift others with sugar laden items. I may struggle with simple sugars and self-discipline, however, misery does not need or even deserve company and giving candy, cookies etc is NOT an act of love. This is just my opinion and how i've come to look at it.

Sugar is UNHIDDEN in my life. Addicted. And i know it has impacted my skin (and teeth and body)in terms of elasticity and those "caramelized" brown spots. Very hard giving it up and/or switching to healthier sources and adds another layer of difficulty reversing or halting the damage. Personal change happens in the heart. I am not there yet.

BRAVO on both achieving sobriety and the longevity of your sobriety! I only hope to the change of heart needed in order to change some of my own ways.
Its always a swap, isnt it? Seems adfiction is like a rotten onion. Peel back a layer, ya find snother and so on. Well, that is, until we dig deep, get to the core, deal with that and those not necessarily healthy substituipns kind of fall away...not completely tho. Its a game of self awareness, management and maintenance. My OA and CODA issues are burdonsome because we gotta eat and being social animals, we gotta deal with others. But the seed, the reasons are pretty similar despite whatever we use to "medicate."

Like our beloved doctor says, don't bring it into the house. I have done that much of my life, especially with ice cream. If it is not in the house, I am not tempted. If it is in the house, I won't eat anything else until the ice cream is gone. So, try that for awhile, and give yourself some time. Yes, have a bit of fruit, make your own lemonade with a fresh squeezed lemon with stevia to sweeten and some seltzer water with crushed ice. It makes it all go away. If you give in to temptation, forgive yourself and just start over again. Also know that what sugar does to your face it is doing to your arteries and other organs; this is more than a cosmetic issue.

Great advice Dr. Anil Rajani! I gave up sugar, refined carbohydrates & processed foods in 2020. I was asked by a friend in 2022 if I’d had Botox treatments! All I did was change my lifestyle.
I eat overnight organic oats with chia seeds & flaxseeds made with probiotic natural yogurt. Lunch is 2 boiled eggs & salad or a cheese omelette & salad, with an apple or pear. Dinner is high quality protein with a wide variety of steamed vegetables & Greek yogurt & berries. For a treat I have a handful of nuts & dark chocolate. I only drink water, tea & coffee, plus the occasional glass of red wine.
I also walk over 10k steps a day, swim 4-6 times a week, and do weekly yoga & reformer pilates classes.
I have an elderly parent with late onset type one diabetes with a range of health & mobility issues. I understand that I need to have a healthy lifestyle, keep within my calorie allowance & stay active. This lifestyle shows in how healthy I look to others.

100% certain I have glycation face. I thought it was only the stress after a truly horrific year of extreme stress and serious problems. I have not slept well, sleep deprivation being a direct result of the stress, and I have been drinking stupid amounts of energy drinks to try to keep myself going and terrible food choices because I could not dedicate any resources or time to eating properly. Convenience, low cost and not having to worry about expiration dates or food prep was most important. I look forward to being able to look after myself better when all the chaos and trauma is over.

No matter how interesting the podcast, I get extremely sleepy within 10 mins tops. There is something about the voices in my ear combined with being relaxed that gets my mind to shut off. Until menopause, I had a healthy diet. I ate very few sweets. After menopause my diet changed dramatically. I craved sweets and the foods I had always loved, I no longer found appetizing. Also - when my children were at home we ate on a regular schedule and ate healthy meals. Now that it is just my husband and me, we just don’t eat regularly. Most of the time I’ll eat a scoop of ice cream and call that dinner. Lately I have made a Herculean effort to eat at least one healthy meal a day - it’s a struggle. So chalk up another stressor of being old - battling to eat healthy when you have very little appetite for it! Old age is not for sissies!

To help preserve the skin from sagging, it is best to eat food with savory and sour taste in the morning.
    Reduce coffee to a minimal.
The two fruits or juices that help the skin at breakfast would be strawberry juice/ fruit and lemon water.
Consume fruit juice only small amount just a shot like tequilla.
Minimize yellow fruits that have high sugar content like mango, pineapple, bananas, orange, and persimmon.
Minimize or skip fried meat, deep fried food, baked food especially cookies.
Rather eat food steam, boil, or raw.
I found out fried egg makes my facial skin soft and sag not long after. Fried protein has high amount of glycation factor.
Hot shower on the face is another one factor to make skin dry and sag. Heat seems to relax the support muscle. Best to use cold water for face washing and pat dry with hand or soft polyester cloth that does not absorb all moisture from the face. Use Perrier water to spray on the face after shower.
Eat more fatty fish, fish belly.
Collard green is good for skin.
Indian food also helps the eyes lid from sagging. It even makes the eyes look bigger. I think the spices do it. I noticed the effect after eating it every time.
    Hope it helps.❤

Hi Dr R ! Here is your Chocolate Chia ! This is great for breakfast, a break at work or desert , tweak out how sweet or chocolatey you like the taste- I tend to use in less honey and more vanilla as I like bitter sweet dark chocolate.
    This makes around 2 servings
2 generous tablespoons of cocoa powder- not drinking chocolate - raw , organic whatever you have at home.
1-2 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup - or less to suit your sweet tooth
1-2 teaspoon of natural vanilla extract

1 cup of milk - I like unsweetened oat milk - dairy or plant milk
1/4 cup of Chia seeds - black or white, I use the black as they blend into the chocolate for a nice look.

A splash of boiled water to mix and dissolve the cocoa powder and mix this with the milk, add your sweetener or honey , the vanilla and mix out any lumps.
Mix in 1/2 the chia and stir to stop them settling on the bottom, mix in the rest and stir till all the seeds are wet. I do this in a straight sided preserve jar , them put the lid on and shake it to avoid a chia lump in the mix. Divide it into a second jar and you have two serves.
    Keep in the fridge overnight.
Serve with coconut yoghurt, banana, strawberries, raspberries or any other fruits you like or tinned fruits if its winter , you can spread this in a shallow pie crust ,
top with fruit and yoghurt and call it desert.
This is a great breakfast treat or take on a hike, or as a quick snack between patients, more heathy than not and has a great chocolatey taste.
Hope you like it and its easy!
    Love you work,
    Lisale

@@SouthFloridaSunshineI wouldn't recommend milk, for the same reasons, but fermented dairy can be good for SOME people .Having cheese with salads helps to bind the oxalates, hence the common practice of throwing some crumbled feta or blue cheese on the top.

I'm disgusted with myself and now I'm in my mid thirties and truly seeing the irreversible damage... I am working towards preventing worsening by lowering my insulin/glucose ... But it's so hard.
True skin beauty comes from within. Specifically diet. As a skincare specialist (and registered massage therapist) I am highly aware of topical skincare practices to nourish skin on the outside but I have completely abandoned my internal workings due to a diet that essentially killing me. ... The western diet.

Thank you, I needed to hear this had gotten off all sugar for months, been under a lot of stress and it was dressings, and even healthier versions of soy free teriyaki that’s hidden sugars reintroduced the cravings.
    Question:
Could going on bio identical hormones make me crave those old salty/sweet foods Dr.? The cravings just remind me of what I used to struggle with around my monthly cycle. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But thank you so very much, my diet was mostly clean, those granola snack bars got me too. This was a good reminder to get back on track. Not just for my skin but what my skin is testifying to going on within my body too.

With regards to AGEs and skin glycation, you only touched in endogenous AGEs.
Exogenous AGEs are just as harmful and come from dry cooking at high temperatures. Anything above boiling point significantly increase AGEs formation. Sticking to boiling, steaming and slow cooking is best.

It can be looked up online.
      “ Lazy Keto” .
It is helping me to control my carb/ sugar intake which is terrible for overall health and especially skin.
I didn’t realize how badly I ate until I really tried to eat so much better.
I must have been easily taking in 150 -200 carbs a day .
Lazy Keto is 50 and under. On a bad day Im at 55-70. Far better than my usual.
I have a off day I restart without being discouraged. Its still an improvement.
I cannot do strict keto because dairy is inflammatory and I have autoimmune issues.
So the high fat content of strict keto cannot work for me as easily because I wont eat so much dairy.
I do have avocado and olive oils and other healthy fats .
The lazy keeps me in check and well aware…without such deprivation :)

I wanna ask how about an organic fresh sheep yogurt from the farm.. it doesn’t have any additives but the sugar content of the jar is 8g.. which is natural from the sheep milk…. Is it still damaging too?! Or just the added sugar they add to yogurts.?? How about fresh coconut water? I make a smoothie with my protein powder and coconut meat and fresh coconut water…. Is that sugar from coconut water still damaging too?!?! Especially when combined with coconut meat which is fat ? It’s confusing…..

I haven’t had sugar in a very long time. (Except what is naturally occurring in my fresh & frozen fruits or dried plums). Sometimes as a treat I’ll have dried cranberries (the 50% less sugar option) with my raw seed and nut mix (ALL RAW pepitas/sunflower seeds/ chia flax sesame cashews). I only ever get plain unflavored Greek yogurt that is sugar free - and when I’m craving something sweet I’ll have toasted seeded bread with SUGAR FREE sun butter instead of peanut butter and a nice pad of calcium rich butter. Also I should mention- first thing in the morning I drink a glass of chia water before my morning coffee that has collagen powder abd msm powder mixed in. Another extremely healthy treat is chia and flax meal pudding - high in omega fatty acids and protein (chia and flax seeds/ground seeds mixed with your choice of milk and cardamom a set in the fridge- if I need a little natural sweetener I’ll use stevia or a DROP of a anti-inflammatory raw honey. Good for skin and hair health. If I want something like ice cream I’ll eat frozen banana slices and frozen dark cherries. And if we’re being honest here I have tk admit I sometimes keep a bag of chocolate chips in the cup overs and I’ll have a handful maybe once every three months if the cravings are bad that day - however I’m soon going to be replacing that with unsweetened carob chips.
I was addicted to chocolate for a few years in my early 30s and I definitely had all the telltale signs that Dr Rajani highlighted here.
At 38, my jowls and face sag is much less noticeable than at 33-35. Of course I’ve charged my diet completely -I’m eating vegetarian/Mediterranean and no processed / fried foods or sugar and junk. And my hyperpigmentation is 10x better (I’ve also been wearing hats and spf always whenever I leave the house, use an argon/ neon wand a few times a month, and I’ve gently attacked my skin with a BALANCED regimen of LED red light, vit c , aha/ga/la , tretinioin, copper peptides, collagen; EGF, (new and haven’t used yet- HA with argirline and matryxl 3000) bakuchoi, ceramides, some ice probably forgotten (NEVER all at once- honestly I rotate my serums and lotions and don’t use more than one or two at a time (of course I’ve researched what can and cannot be used together) and washing face w purpose soap only once a day if that - keeping my barrier in check with rosewater, glycerine and cream with seaweed/sea kelp ) honestly I have one lotion with niacinimide but don’t use it very often, have a Dr. Pen that I’m currently purging my skin of actives this week so I can use it in a few days (must go 7 days without active ingredients before micro needling!)
Yikes this is long winded as usual but honestly- my skin looked like a spotted frog I had a terrible melasma mask and hyperpigmentation from scars abd bad sunspots, saggy jowls, eleven and marionette lines - and just by changing my diet and getting rid of sugar I’ve noticed a huge difference in both my waistline and my skin health.
I have to say I’ve gotten my basic skincare regimen from Dr Rajani (the skin reset regimen I think?) and my skin has never been better. I’m waiting to finish up a few of the skincare products I have before buying EMU oil- but I did take Drs advice and found a nice HA serum with argeriline, just last week but I haven’t opened it yet. Will definitely return abd comment after a month of consistent use.
Thank you Dr Rajani for another informative video. Honestly I didn’t know sugar was one of the worst things for aging skin until I watched one of your other videos.

Your videos are the best! Thank you for the additional research information you offer. Sometimes , as in this video, the science scares me. This 71 y/o gal avoided the sun for long term exposure, but lived on sugar for several years, so this video kinda got me worried. Too bad I don't live in Oregon. I'd love to do personal consults with you.

Dont worry ! I too grew up on sugar. Never too late to change. Small changes make a big difference. Enjoy the day.

I use full fat heavy cream and a bit of salt, it brings out some sweetness. How about cutting down gradually and adding those?

Monk fruit is sugar free, natural from a plant. I think it tastes just like sugar with no glycemic index 😍Also, it’s a 1-to-1 ratio! Hope this helps 😊

Hi doc, I enjoy watching your videos!
Can you please tell us more about
EZGEL in the face in a new video?
What can you change in the face with it?
Can it be used in the forehead?
Can it be used to raise the nose bridge and lift the nose tip?
How many sessions are needed to get the result that stays for a while ?
Would like more information if possible..
A before and after video would be even better …
