It was neat to watch earlier this season when Army played LSU in Death Valley. While LSU won the game pretty handily, the dignity and respect that was shown to Army before and after the game was nice to see.

The rivalry is more tradition based than anything else. It's not a hated rivalry like Michigan and OU or Texas and Oklahoma. Often there's nothing on the line other than bragging rights. Neither team is really any good (just being honest). The Navy has been the better team for most of the 21st century. The pregame and fly over is better than the game itself. I remember when I was in Iraq back in 06 and some of my comrades and I were watching the Army Navy game on AFN. And one of the sergeants was like "this is such low class football." Funny as it was when it said it... He had a point. It's about as old school of football as you're going to get. Truth be old XFL games have more action. I played DIII football and even I was like I could go out there and play with these guys. It's def one of the oldest, if not the oldest, rivalry in football. But I'm not going to say it's the greatest rivalry since nothing is rarely ever at stake. It's not like either one is making it to the college football playoffs.
It is the greatest. The iron bowl is big it doesn't compare to Army Navy. Neutral observers seem to think that it's just a nice celebration and a sort of friendly rivalry. I can assure you if you're an athlete at these schools, it is extremely vicious. Every sport has an Army Navy game during the year and coaches are hired and fired solely on their ability to win that one game. It really doesn't matter how they do in any other game. So long as you win that one game a season, you get to keep coaching.

Ohio St and Michigan would not be nearly as big if the two schools weren't constantly ranked in the top 10. The fact that coaches are hired and fired at these two schools specifically based on how they do in this game is what makes it the purest rivalry.

Just as intense in every other sport.Especially lacrosse where both schools teams are Nationally Ranked. Singing 2nd after winning is magical.Entire student bodies required to attend all games between academy's.
