I wholeheartedly agree with this conclusion. The thing about terms like "laziness" is that they stop us from really trying to understand a thing. As you have expertly articulated in this video, "laziness" is just a catch-all term that stops further discussion. It's a snap judgement of a person's character. As a result, it doesn't take into account why the person is being "lazy." This judgement is much like a diagnosis from a doctor. Unlike a diagnosis, however, it doesn't actually mean anything specific. If I go to the hospital and get a diagnosis for malaria for instance, then there are clear implications of what that diagnosis means, as well as a clear treatment plan that can be used to cure me of that ailment-this is not the case with laziness.
I hated being a public school teacher, as I could not get myself to try to force students into getting into my subjects of math and physics. I moved on to teaching English as a foreign language, and students want to learn that. It also ties in much better with my writing. This has been a very healthy move for me.
Thanks for this!!I can’t control my depression and the environment I live in and despite working hard and being an ‘overachiever’ I can get burnt out more quicker and find it harder to relax when I should and end up taking more breaks than usual making me ‘lazy’ coming to exam season/being productive.
Thanks for your comment. I can relate to a lot of what you have said. Try to be kind to yourself. I've spent a lifetime being hard on myself for 'failures', and it's not done me any good!
speaking about goals 🙂, "Dopamine Technique for Trading: During my youth, I held the responsibility of handling penalties and free kicks for my local football team. Now, whenever I find myself engaged in a new trade ( i am a day trader) and confronted with the initial wave of negative emotions, I employ a neurological maneuver. I swiftly summon the memory of a glorious moment when I skillfully netted a beautiful goal. This exquisite recollection triggers a surge of dopamine, effectively overpowering any prevailing negativity with a profound sense of positivity. Thus, I find myself empowered and focused, better equipped to navigate the trading landscape with clarity and confidence." (lol)? just sharing
Matt - appreciate your picking up in these topics. Really could be looking at any phenomenon. The cash value is your thought process including the deconstruction of terms, hypothesis driven approach and offering a unique position backed with evidence and own perspective. Top notch. Keep them coming.
First of all, thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights. Watching your videos has proved incredibly valuable given all my insecurities. I’m a first-year student (from Switzerland) studying environmental science. I have a profound passion for my subject and I love learning more than anything else. However, gaining insight into issues that currently affect or will, with fairly high probability, affect a substantial number of people and other species represents a huge emotional toll. This is certainly not a matter of concern solely restricted to the environmental field and I reckon this problem is somewhat poorly addressed at university. Despite my being highly motivated to study, I sometimes find myself being altogether incapable to keep going. I believe I’m not alone.
Thank you for your comment and your honesty. I similarly find political science to be quite emotionally draining on occasions. When dealing with matters of literal life and death, it's hard not to get emotionally invested in the material. I wish you the best of luck!
my so-called dad always told me that I am lazy, crazy, or stupid despite him being aware of the fact that I am autistic and I am an ADHDer, and I have C-PTSD, depression, and various anxiety disorders. Thank you for dispelling the myth of laziness! I cut people like my dad out of my life, because I don't need or want such people in my life
@@adrianomartinez6231Absolutely. The definition of "laziness" changes with each person that uses the term. It really is a nebulous catch-all term that doesn't say anything about what is actually preventing someone from pursuing a goal.
This is so great! I tuned into this video when I most needed it. I think it’s a cultural phenomenon that we feel like we are never doing enough and burning ourselves out in the process. It’s really important to take care of ourselves in the process otherwise what good are we to ourselves, our desires to achieving our goals, and to our loved ones who are cheering us on. In order to be our best we need to care ourselves for certain so we can show up as our best selves. I love this! Thank you!
best ad i've ever seen for anything probably, the thing being jesus college oxford. im not flying overseas, but if i was local, i guess i'd consider it 🤷 thanks for making and sharing something that's useful to the world at large academia can be awfully self serving nowadays, at least in america
in my society, we have the concept of "lazy" as a momentum. "we always know that for some domain, human are autopilot even automatic" we know we have capability to push our brain and our body, and Somehow the thought & the desire Coming, our brain & our body are automatically thinking & functioning. the thought & the desire that are served by our brain & body, are really momentumally outside of our control(but not fully) . even so it's momentumally(but not fully) "influenced" by our experiences(in the past, we had control for this domain ) , nature, condition, and Environment. even "the act of pushing" are incredibly fascinating & "served" in advance by "the invisible hand" . it become philosophical, so what is spesifically really "our-control"? "we accept" that concept for some goal that are "served" to us, then "we choose some goal" Over other goals
the differences between nature & momentum are: momentum can change or changed but nature is hardly to change; nature is more acceptable but momentum can lead to society-chaos(even a "wrong-puting" word can)
Hello Matt, I hope you’re doing well. I was wondering how long does it usually take for the admissions officer of Jesus College to respond the emails? Because I sent an email asking if they accepted maths for business 4 days ago and I haven’t gotten a response Also how helpful do you think it would be to do the Oxford Summer Course for economics as an applicant? The one that is hosted by Oriel College Thank you for taking your time to respond to me, have a nice week and be safe :D

Good video, good message.
Laziness is so often used to judge somebody and to try to manipulate the other to do more (for themselves).

Laziness is a character judgement and I concur, it doesn't exist.
for some people , reading a book is lazy , partying is lazy , sleepying is lazy , eating is lazy ,meditating is lazy

You should receive a reply fairly soon. The admissions officer is very busy, so I would wait up to 10 days before perhaps sending another inquiry.
