    They're honestly talking about going down to 1080p like it's a big letdown. I watch TH-cam videos in 480p on my phone, and honestly on such a small screen the picture looks great (as opposed to my computer monitor, where the same resolution looks really soft). In my view, there really is no need to buy an expensive phone today--even the mid-range ones. The only reason to put more money into a phone is just build quality (and remember that some of these expensive phones don't last, either).

    • @Sknom21
      @Sknom21 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why are you watching tech videos, plus I think 720p is the lowest a phone should be in 2020

    • @beyondtrash1627
      @beyondtrash1627 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd say mid range phones are worthwhile. You get larger batteries, faster phones, and better screens for your money.
      Flagships are a bit ridiculous though, because they usually don't improve on battery, and screen and speed improvements are usually small compared to mid range phones. If you have the money and use your phone a lot, then they're still an understandable purchase.

      To a degree, you are correct, however, 1080p should be standard. High refresh rate truly does make a difference from someone who is using it right now on a OnePlus 7 Pro, and (if you game) higher end processors make a huge difference and a higher end processor will also allow you to use a phone for longer as it will stay fast for longer. At least 6 gb of RAM to run android for 2-3 years would be recommended, unless you are a pixel user in which case, Google probably has better optimization of Android similar to Apple and iOS. A Mid-Range phone will simply last longer and be better during that time. Most importantly, it wont annoy you for being slow or be bogged down by like 1 other app being open in 2 or 3 years time (had this experience with a Galaxy S8 a few months ago when I still used that)

    • @Some-guy-on-the-internet
      @Some-guy-on-the-internet 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you play games, the higher framerate does make a big difference. You're literally getting double the visual data in the same amount of time, which gives you more time to react. I don't play mobile games but even in day to day use, the extra smoothness really helps make my phone feel faster and more responsive. Don't get me wrong, 60Hz is perfectly fine and I am used to it, but if I have the option to bump up the framerate, I absolutely will.

    • @JudgingKitty

      I own a 144hz monitor and it's nice, but I don't need or even want 120hz on a smartphone because of battery life.
      But on tablets 120 hz is nice (samsung tab s7(+)/ iPad pro) because of low latency drawing and writing!

    • @MJ-uk6lu
      @MJ-uk6lu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Some-guy-on-the-internet Except, many mobile games are capped at 60 or even 30 fps, some chips have very strict power control thus in reality you don't often see all those hertz. Also they do this to keep power consumption in check and to keep heat output manageable. Having all those goodies in mobile device isn't as easy as with desktop PC, where you only worry about having enough speed to take advantage of high refresh rate.

    • @Some-guy-on-the-internet
      @Some-guy-on-the-internet 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MJ-uk6lu Fair enough then. Even if games don't take advantage of it, it still makes for a more snappy and responsive user experience. I think that alone makes a high refresh rate worth it for some people.

    I kinda feel the rediculously priced high-end flagships should exist, but they should be phones that last for at least 3 years before seeing an upgrade. The mid-range flagships should be the one's that get upgraded yearly and be priced accordingly with emphasis on the competitive side of pricing. Sort of what's being done in 2020, but both categories need a little more work with pricing, design and quality of workmanship.

    The S20 FE, only downgrades in terms of Camera is an 8MP 3x optical zoom versus the 1.1x zoom 64MP sensor. Which is technically negligible due to sensor cropping either way you go. Beyond that the other two rear cameras are exactly the same, beautiful images and same processing as the standard S20 series flagships, the front camera is higher resolution, but has a fixed focus versus the PDAF on the 10mp selfie cam on the S20 series. The FE is a no compromises device, plastic really isn't even a compromise in the way they use it, and the aluminum side rails make it feel more than premium with no creaks or flexing of any sort.

    Pixel 5 is a weird case because in international markets it costs less or comes with less power-hunger 5G radios. In Canada, the phone is $799 CAD, and in the UK, Ireland, France and Germany it costs £599 and €629 but they don't have Mmwave 5G radios so the better life should be better with just Sub-6 5G. At these international prices, it's a different story because within the domestic market it is not competing in the £/€700 range but rather undercutting by a bit or a lot in the UK's case.

    I kinda like the Apple approach of using an older design a bit better, than the non flagship processor.

    Got my iPhone SE for a little over $200 from that Walmart sale, and I am still satisfied even though refresh rate and battery life are important to me. Just so incredibly inexpensive for something I hope will last 4+ years of software progression.

    the answers lies in what specs will you use and make difference for you. for me I am happy with my Note 8 and it is mostly on medium power saving settings cuz the battery will not hold for the day, and I don't complain that much about speed. The cameras are what most users will appreciate and that what I am looking for. I feel the processors became fast enough 2 years ago. I can't appreciate the SoC except on benchmarks and gaming on mobile which both I don't do.

    if they only sell a barebone smartphone (just the hardware and stuff) and install your own android version on it (eg, lineageOS), I wont be surprised if that phone is as cheap as sub 300 with a hardware can match the flagship phones.

    Why are phones expensive most of the features that the new models have aren't necessary or in some cases aren't even new. Plus, phones that came out 2 or 3 years ago are practically the same as the ones we have today, but with differences such as more cameras or just new features that are unnecessary
