Can you consider doing a detailed video about US banking and the two factor authentication issue. It was an enormous problem for me last year while traveling in the Philippines. Thanks
You can buy a cheaper phone and travel w that. I have two phones. One w T-mobile and another I walk around with that doesn’t have financial or important info and then I use the countries sims card. If for some reason it get lost or stolen it no bid deal, I still have my main phone that has all my investments, bills and able to get cash. I have an iPhone 12 and a iphone 8 refurbished
Great question @lmajc494, those are the kinds of questions I answer in detail in my free eBook here: vagabondbuddha.com/fire-your-boss-travel-world/ Thanks for watching and commenting! Dan
The best part about this video is I can download the whole report with the video link and read it when I'm on the train 🚆 Even relaxing at home as I work on changing my mindset to understand this is all doable. Slow Traveling around the world 🌎, is very affordable. 😊
i view videos from several travel vloggers. yours are always the most informative and thorough. the practical advice you offer can be a life saver for many of us visiting a place for the first time. thank you for all you do😊
Great question @user-vm2tc2pr9z, I have one report where I explain what I do about health care and another where I show you how I search for health insurance, and a third report sharing which one I decided to finally buy. What I do about health care: vagabondbuddha.com/two-biggest-risks-of-retiring-early-overseas/ Report where I search for health insurance: vagabondbuddha.com/best-health-insurance-for-ex-pats-in-philippines/ Here is the Health Insurance I bought (and scams to avoid): th-cam.com/video/0leF_BCLVKw/w-d-xo.html By the way, once you search for health care you will start seeing more offers for health insurance and travelers insurance when you are online. Health insurance is one of the most dynamic or changing industries in the travel world because so many people around the world are deciding to live or retire outside their home country. So do a search every year before you renew to make sure you have the best available for your personal circumstances because new ones come out every few months. Thanks for asking so I could answer this for many people! Dan
Correction from Michael: "Gov.vn is a sub domain of .vn (.vn is the tld) .gov is a tld (top level domain). get.gov/registration/requirements/ "every request for a .gov domain name is carefully examined by the DotGov program to ensure it is from a genuine U.S.-based government or public sector organization." "Only U.S.-based government and public sector organizations are eligible to obtain a .gov domain. Thus, in the video, the video should have esed the examples of '.gov.uk' and ',gov.th' instead of uk.gov or th.gov." Here is an example of what I mean (this is a real webpage): vietnam.gov.vn/
So much good information ! I plan on slow traveling in near future. I have a dumb question. If I download any documents I want printed, I'm assuming I can put the pdf file on a thumb drive and print them off at a workplace in almost any country ? Is it that easy ? I'm thinking of flight iteneraries and accomodation confirmations. Probably others. Thanks so much for this video; will watch it a few times !
It use to be possible that you could buy an open ticket and fly around the world as long as you flew in the same direction, i do not know when this ended but knowing it was years ago.
We will be there in 3 weeks. We are excited about it! Do you have my free eBook yet? vagabondbuddha.com/fire-your-boss-travel-world/ I will email you when Albania goes live.
I am currently in Saigon and many of the atms only allow you to take out 3 million dong which is basically $120.00 so if you are paying for your accommodation in cash you may have to go to more than one atm.
Hi Dan, I’m relatively new (about 6 months) to your channel. I absolutely love the information your videos provide. 2 questions: do you ever have difficulties getting prescriptions filled? Also, do you know any countries that we should avoid if LGBT? My wife has concerns about us (2 ladies) traveling or living abroad. Thanks Dan Patty 🙂
In general it seems that SE Asia, especially Thailand, has no beef with it. On the other hand, you won't see much public displays of affection (PDA) in Asia no matter the sexual orientation. Qiang just said 2 women is more accepted than 2 men. Keep in mind, man-woman couples don't do PDA in Asia either so keep that in mind. I have to tell you, I miss PDA living in Asia.
One thing I usually do with the rideshare app is you can send the driver a message so I will send them a message I am wearing a white hat so they can find you.
Hi Dan, great info here. Quick question, Do local sim cards let you get texts from your home country? Everything these days has the two factor authentication through texts and that is worrying me. Thanks.
I used my US cell phone to receive bank 2FA texts when I lived in the USA. Then I ported my US cell phone number to Google Voice before leaving the USA. Now my 2FA texts come on Google Voice on my computer and phone. It is all explained in me free eBook along with a million other things: vagabondbuddha.com/fire-your-boss-travel-world/
Please consider a reupload at much higher audio volume, maybe twice as loud. You have a quiet voice. At 40 mph, I struggle to hear. At 45 mph, I can't identify any words.
I find this video, very useful and thank you for that and please Excuse me why buy a flight ticket to have a visa when you could buy a simple bus ticket online for maybe three dollars ?
The only problem is that if you visit an island nation like the Philippines, there's no bus to another country. I think that was the original intent of the message.
Great question @Koyee123, those are the kinds of questions I answer in detail in my free eBook here: vagabondbuddha.com/fire-your-boss-travel-world/ Thanks for watching and commenting! Dan
If you can and your phone is compatible try a esim card you can turn of the local phone and turn on home phone with Wi-Fi and get message from your whatever service you want.

Great info for new travelers but anyone that's travelled a bit it's pretty basic info. I always have an onward or return flight but never been asked about it.
True, but it you forget any of this, it can go bad pretty quick. Plus, it sucks when they ask for an onward flight and you don't have it. For $12, it is worth avoiding that headache. :-)
Ground transportation you have to do your homework. Some countries the train is better than the bus and some countries buses are better. Some countries you might want to buy your bus ticket online so you can pick your type of bus. I am currently in Vietnam and some of the buses are what they call sleeper buses. I made the mistake of showing up to the bus station and got these sleeper buses which I call coffin buses because you are literally lying like you are in a coffin and are very uncomfortable. I got on one and they gave me the seat in the last row which is the shortest seat. So after the first stop I told them I would stand but they found me a longer seat up front. I hate these seats just feels unnatural to ride that way and would rather ride in a crowded minivan. So in Vietnam I would advise people to book ticket online so you can pick your type of bus.

Seems like Google Voice would be an easy workaround for 2FA issues.
Best video you have ever done Dan . People who have not travelled to South East Asia should watched this video at least 5 times.

Great video with a lot of useful information and stuff I hadn't known before like the yellow areas on Google Maps meaning walkable areas.
Glad you enjoyed it
Example of excess baggage i had excess bags at airport which was $175, if i paid at booking with ticket, it was only $115
I SEE YOU TWO' ARE STILL HAVING FUN!
Yes. :-) Enjoy Cebu!
Long video but was worth the watch
Brilliant!

Wha...???? The tan areas of the map are walkable? Why can't Google properly communicate this? thank you!
Wow…. All these years using Google Maps… that is a good thing to know.

Yes. You can also download to your phone or computer or pin drive.

I remember that. I haven't seem one of those lately.
Excellent guide Dan.
Dan, again I learned something. Had no idea that on Google Maps the tan areas are more walkable while the white areas less walkable.
Thanks.

MB Bank ATMs in Vietnam lets you take out 5 million dong per transaction.

That works too often. Check first.
The only problem is that if you visit an island nation like the Philippines, there's no bus to another country. I think that was the original intent of the message.
I FINALLY ARRIVED IN 'CEBU❤
Dan, regarding one way tickets, don't most countries ask to see your return flight before entering the country?
That is covered in great detail in this video. :-)
There's a few videos that talk about services that allow to buy a reservation and how that works
It’s the airline that checks, because they’re on the hook to fly you back if you don’t have one

Knowledge comes easier when you don't fall asleep.

Its okay to buy online but make suer you check Google, Tripadvisor, and/or Trust pilot to see if the website is a scam or not. :-)
I would never buy a bus ticket online in Thailand you would be charged more and sometimes double booked.
