I think it’s a great engine. Has plenty of power. The torque comes on low in the RPM’s. It’s quiet and smooth. It’s perfect for everyday driving or hauling a load in the bed. Can hear the turbo but I think it sounds good. This 2.7 runs like a diesel engine. I have owned the 3.0 duramax and the 2.8 duramax and the v-6. 2.7 is my favorite out of all them. Very smart design of this engine in the way it delivers power. And the 8 speed works good with the 2.7. 18-23 mpg’s
Tim, great job in explaining why and how trucks became what they are today. I feel like people just get mad and yell about the cost of trucks without understanding what you laid out. Also, trucks need to help make up profit margin losses on the less popular vehicles in a manufacturers lineup.
As a retired widower I ride alone 95 percent of the time. I currently drive my third old school Ranger. 200,000 miles is the norm. 24 mpg. 6 ft bed. There is nothing close to similar to replace it I could afford whatever I wanted but have no use for any of these new POS
In 1993 I bought a Toyota pickup . Manual windows and locks . It came with no radio or antenna and air conditioning which I did after market for $7k . Bench seat , vinyl floors and steel wheels . Bought a single cab Silverado in 2000 same thing . Bench seat manuel everything . $21k . I traded that in for a GMC 1500 extended cab same amenities . $14k . Still have it today and runs great at 220 k miles . Grand kids have fun rolling up the windows and can't open the back doors . It's a shame there isn't a market for a budget truck customers would rather have the comforts over spending less . I had automatic windows in my 1970 Chevy Caprice back in the late 1970s and it's the last time I had such a thing. My son just bought a XLT lighting which appears to be parody with the gas models as far as price .
Great video, Tim. Lots of information and very helpful. Even if a local dealer doesn’t have one of these on their lot, certainly easy enough for buyers to order them from company websites and time frames have become very reasonable. Thank you again!!!
Trying to find the lowest priced truck is very difficult. I use the build and price tool all the time to see what trim has the features I want. I have found with each truck purchase my “have to have” list gets longer. Of course when you want something like heated seats or power folding mirrors you have to get a lot of other features with it. It’s good to see that at least there are some incentives being offered.
Several years ago, it was popular to buy a kit to convert manual windows to power. But I found some people, like myself, that don't like power windows and convert it to manual. You just remove the rivets holding the electric motor on the window frame and get a sun gear for a similar vehicle and attach it to the with rivets. I want manual windows because power windows are too twitchy and in the winter it's hard to open the window about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch to let moisture escape but not let in the wind/cold.
@Rick-vg2pz My previous truck was a 2002 Sonoma with manual windows, and it was easy to position the window exactly where I wanted it. Last year, I traded in the 2WD, extended cab, long box 2002 Sonoma for a 2016 Canyon 2WD, extended cab, long box with a manual transmission. I tried to get used to power windows, but they are so frustrating because every time I try to lower the driver's window, a "crack" it goes all the way down. I don't feel like I am in control of my truck. On cold mornings, the multifunction screen tells me to be careful because the roads might be icy. Thanks, "Captain Obvious." I get the connection between cold weather and ice. Between the unpredictable traction control that won't let me spin the tires in the snow, the automatic door locks and the other electronic "nannies" I feel like I'm a teenager driving my dad's truck and being constantly nagged.
All of my trucks and one car have been base models, high end models are absolutely unappealing to me, my next new truck will surely be a work truck too.
Before I traded for the Ford, I looked at a 5th gen 4x4 tradesman crew with the offroad package. 65000 dollars in Canada, no google maps 5 inch uconnect and had the bench seats. 7 dollar a gallon gas equivalent.
I wanted to buy a bare bones, vinyl floor, F-150XL back in 2015, a left over 2014. The dealer refused to sell me the truck, said they were for fleets only.
Its what everyone else wants verses what everyone else doesnt want ! There was a time you could option a manual trans- AC delete - no power windows even radio delete and wire in your own sound system ! Man how things changed over the years
there are 2 problems since there are no bare bones lowest MSRP trucks on the lots you have to order that truck from a dealer then they will add on top of the MSRP for a "special" order. Second no one wants a bare bone truck, we want at least mid range options at the lowest MSRP at $30K but even a mid sized truck with crew cab and mid options cost $45K now I know I specced a Colorado Trail Boss with a crew cab, turbo 4, 4x4, with mid options for $42K
No not even close. They don’t stock them because the margins are much smaller. They don’t sell people what they want to buy they sell what they want to sell
The only way he’s going to get his truck is custom order the truck instead of buying direct from a dealership. That’s the best way to get any truck really! Instead of what the dealership thinks you should buy! They are clueless when you come to individuals wanting or needing on a consumer truck!
Id love to see this with midsize trucks and some of your opinions on them! Which of the 4 cylinder motors do you like most in the midsized section (excluding the raptor)?
Here's a question I always wanted to know. Do you get these incentives when you build your truck because I always see that asterisk that points out that the truck must be taken from the dealer's lot.
@Pickuptrucktalk my local dealer, Planet Ford in Spring, TX, offers the discounts whether you take stock or order. That said, they sell about 500 F150s/mth with 700+ in stock so finding what you want on the lot is a bit easier.
I just bought a new Silverado crew cab 2.7 4x4 column shifter Custom. $52,000 sticker $11,500 rebate. Runs great. No frills just a truck
How do you like the 2.7?

a 2.7L for FIFTY TWO THOUSAND. shuuuuuut up no Nono
$40,500 after rebates. I will never pay sticker on new truck.
These aren't affordable.. A person is paying around $600 month for 7 years.

Bare bones should be around 30-32. Any more is just economy gouging. Nice review Tim.

The only way to get atruck with out a lot of electronic crap is to try to find an old one that you can fix up

Barebones means more reliability. The less computer modules the less things to go wrong.
These basic trucks are available, but difficult to actually find on dealer lots.
Yup, no argument there.
Almost 50k for a work truck?......NO......Tim......NO.

I miss hand crank windows, manual transmission, vinyl floors.

I just want something CHEAP with an 8ft bed and a V8!

Hi Tim-
Thanks for sharing great information.
Thank you for this video Tim!
I wanted to buy a bare bones, vinyl floor, F-150XL back in 2015, a left over 2014. The dealer refused to sell me the truck, said they were for fleets only.
You should have reported to the company on this dealer .
Guy, S-L-O-W DOWNN , you talk way too fast . You're not running an auto auction here! Otherwise, it's a good video .
That's actually slowed down for me.

Lots of rebates and discounts near me (DFW) even on the base models. 2024 Reg Cab F-150s 2.7 V6 2WD in the mid to upper 30s.
Any truck over $7500 ain’t cheap. I’m talking used truck there are zero cheap new trucks .
I hear people complaining about dealers not having low/no content trucks. They just don't sell. If they did the dealers would stock them.
No not even close. They don’t stock them because the margins are much smaller. They don’t sell people what they want to buy they sell what they want to sell
I don’t need a computer screen any of the bull shit stuff
Great video thank you

Ram would be the best bang for your buck. Get the quad cab versus the regular cab
Maybe but will Stelantis be around in the future ?
@Pickup Truck plus SUV Talk: please discuss GM not putting two speed transfer cases in some trims of their pickups.
I've written two website posts and did a video a few years ago: th-cam.com/video/0s36AV7AgII/w-d-xo.html
@@Pickuptrucktalk thank you!
This is the only way to order a truck then you get exactly what you want. Wish gm offered more axle ratios like ford.
40,000 dollars pluse for a base 4x4 is just ridiculous. That truck should be in the mid to upper 20,s. These prices are way over inflated
Mid to upper 20s for a full-size truck? That hasn't been the case in 20 years.
Id love to see this with midsize trucks and some of your opinions on them!
Which of the 4 cylinder motors do you like most in the midsized section (excluding the raptor)?
Good thinking. I’ll work on it tomorrow.

@@ryansheard8092 Nice!
I bought a new F150 about a month ago that I’d ordered. Paid $8500 below MSRP.
Good luck finding a dealer that will bring in a low end truck.
Long bed better.
I’d get the ford with a coyote
