I could never agree anymore with anyone than I do with you. There will, in my opinion, be a better aircraft than Piper. I soloed a PA 28 140 when I was 17 and have been love with the Piper ever since.
3.5 hours is about as long as you can stay in the air, with reserves enough to be legal. Even 2.5 hour legs will get you 1/3 of the way across the US. And if you are hunting about an airplane with toilets- who is going to clean it and do you really want to be that close to one...for 4 hours?
