Hey all, I've become aware that this method doesn't work on Sony cameras, so I made a follow-up video on how to use this method on Sony! Here you go -th-cam.com/video/E_g5lGyMW9c/w-d-xo.html
My camera wasn't focusing between every shot (EOS R8) despite following your instructions. I then realised that I had 'Preview AF' turned off, so it would only initiate focus when I held down my focus button (which was AF-on) Turning it on solved the problem. FYI to Other canon users!
thanks a lot!! im just wondering why a professional camera with face recognition is unable to focus just right BEFORE the actual shot. I dont understand what the technical problem is. I just want to press the shutter, go to my spot, wait for 10 seconds and then the camera can just activate the focus right before shooting the picture. Do you know why that's not possible?
I tried this today. Used my R6 M2 and the EF85mm, people tracking, eye tracking, whole area focus like you suggested. I sat on a chair with my dog in my lap in my studio. Every shot of 50 was out of focus!! I turned off whole area focus and the camera focused on my dog's boy, so my face was out of focus. Don't understand why it didn't find me, or my eyes. It didn't find my dog's eyes either. Disappointed. However, when I used my RF24-70mm partly zoomed in, I was in focus. Doesn't make sense. But I really like the idea of your video.
Thank you very much for that video im a solo traveler and this gave me a great reason to choice canon over any other brand. BUT, after i finish with the time laps > how do i get the photos from the video without losing quality ?
I don't get it, I set the interval, like 10 shots every seconds, to try, I see the timer on the screen, I move a big my camera each second, but at the end I have only one photo, the first one. What is wrong? (And thank you, great explanation).
Found the solution, put it here if it can help: the Interval Timer wasn't working because I have Back Button Focus enabled and focus removed from the shutter button.
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for this. I just got the r6 mii and lost my remote shutter! I take our family portraits and a remote shutter and canon connect app we're not ideal. This helps me maintain my candid style while getting in the shot. THANK YOU
Ha I'm glad I was able to help!!! I used to use the self timer/app method for all the self-portraits I took and my GOODNESS is this intervalometer way faster and so much more fun 😂
What shutter speeds do you recommend? I’m thinking of things for my social media content that’s work related but I want to avoid “stuffy stilted” pics. Thanks. Great idea. No idea if my Sony bridge will be able to do this so will investigate.
I have a Sony a6000 and bene trying to take self portraits of me and my husband , but pics are out of focus .. your pictures came out great but what you just explained seems confusing .. is there a simpler way you could tell me what setting/mode my camera should be on when taking self portraits plz and thank you.
I'm so grateful, thank you! I was looking for the solution for a week, but couldn't find anything useful until this video. Tried your method and absolutely worked with my R10.
Question, is continuous af the same thing as servo af? is servo what canon calls continuous? Great vid btw, I'm about to go do this. Once my PFP changes to myself, you'll know it's because I've finished the self photoshoot
its been pretty hard to find videos with utilizing the flip screen to assist in talking self mode photos,... a video on that would be great, as its kind of a defining factor right now for me to switch from dslr to mirrorless
Love your tips! Im being looking for a video like this, since I just changed my camera and this r6 canon just have the 2 and 10 seconds timer , my previous camera was a dsrl with and time laps already set with your one click! But this is great!!

Me starting this: hell yeah so excited!
Me @1:32 hearing mirrorless: ight imma head out
😂😂
Can relate 😂

This was soooo helpful thank you!!! Been a professional wedding photographer for 10 years and NEVER taken self-portraits! until now. Thanks again!

I would really like to make this work on my camera Nikon Z6. So far it doesnt allow me to choose manual mode, only aperture priority 🤷

Thank you so much for making this video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! I was going nuts with the glitchy apps and not being able to set focus with the self timer. This works perfectly!!
Jeez!!! Finally a coherent explanation for this device!! Thank you for this. 🎉

This was so dope! I have a Canon R6 and had no idea I could do this! Great video. 👍🏽👍🏽 ups.
Does it work on Nikon Z30?
Anyone here a Sony user, I can't find a way to make the focus area full. I think that's the part I'm missing.
Besides that, great video
Sony is the only brand with no c-autofocus while using this function
@@ekvidi Do you know how to set up the focus on sony to use this function and be sharp while taking a self-portrait?
@@weronika2340 sony can't do this
Excellent video. You are well versed.
Hi. How is the quality? I tried doing this with my iPhone but came out grainy using the tripod.
Thank you
Quality will really depend on your camera/lens combo, but it should be significantly better than using a mobile device!
@@joshrexford Thank you very much.
I bought a digital camera a few weeks ago but it can be intimidating to use but I’m gonna use it.
Thank you
Love this! I swear using the app and trying to take photos that way is so hard and I get frustrated. This way is so much easier!

*(WITHOUT using a SELF-TIMER). Step One go buy an extra fancy SELF-TIMER accessory ?
This will work on Canon R50?
does it ? i want to try
Hi, I'm a beginner 😆 Can I do this with the Canon D4000? Thank you 6:12
And what if the camera (Sony A7C) does not support continuous auto-focus in self-timer?

I don’t know why but the autofokus is not working for me / not following me or my eye. I’m using the r6 mkii
My camera has an embedded intervelometer and it is great. This is a game changer for self portraits.
Thanks! In Canon R8, it only works if you have not set back button focus.
Excellent! Thank you so much!! God bless you.
you. are. the. shit. thank you josh.
Welll I don’t have a mirrorless camera..
I am so excited to try this, thank you so much.!
Sony cameras do not allow continuous shooting while interval shooting is active is there any other way to achive pleasant results?
Check the pinned comment, I made a specific video for how to do it on Sony!
@@joshrexford Where I could find the pinned comment? Thanks.
It should be the top comment below this video, but here’s the direct link to the video: th-cam.com/video/E_g5lGyMW9c/w-d-xo.html
@@joshrexford Thank you ;)
You're transitions are so nice ! How do you do it ? 😍 Thank you 😃
Canon mirrorless have a very customizable intervalometer built in
Yep! That's what this video is all about, great way to take self-portraits.
Pls. My sony
Definitely gonna try this… thx for sharing
this is a great idea. have to try this.
This was so helpful! Thank you for sharing!
I have the R6 what do you think about doing this with the canon connect app versus paying for that $50 device you showed
The Canon R6 has it built in to the camera. No additional equipment needed.
Love your tips! Im being looking for a video like this, since I just changed my camera and this r6 canon just have the 2 and 10 seconds timer , my previous camera was a dsrl with and time laps already set with your one click! But this is great!!
Thanks so very much! Glad you enjoyed it 🙌🏼
Thank you for the tips. I will try it out right away.
thanks a lot, man
I’d love to do this but I have the 5D Mark IV - could I still do this?
Yes. You just make sure you have your focus points where they should be but it can be done
Exaaaactly what I needed to find! Thank you so much for the info and the settings for the R6!
I was curious if your r6 autofocused for each photo? I haven't tried this yet but I need dating profile photos. Others have said their cameras (other brands) were out of focus for the entire series. Did you use Servo AF or have preview AF enabled?
@sumdood2035 yes it does! If you set up the settings the way I describe, it should focus for each shot of the interval.
Awesome! Super helpful thank you!
So glad it was helpful!!
What lens did you used in the beach?
a combination between the EF 35mm 1.4 and the EF 85mm 1.4!
Super helpful! Thank you 🙏🏾
Glad it was helpful!
My Fuji does, my Sony don't
Which fuji caméra are you using ? 🙂
