My first car is an '86 1/2 D21 with the Z24i engine (8 plugs!), 5-spd manual transmission and A/C! It now has 378K miles and I still drive it to work everyday. I have since owned Lexus and Infiniti cars, along with an S2000 but my D21 is the most reliable car I have ever owned.
Still running my 87 i bought in 1995 with 200k on it then. Almost 424k now. Refreshed the engine near 300k. Bought it as a cheap work truck, and now people love it. I shake my head when a big new truck parks next to me, and their bed rails are as high as my roof.
I had an 87 hardbody 4x4 with the 4 banger. Too bad rust took it. Loved that thing. Took it up to my friends fishing cabin and it did everything. Hauled rocks, fire wood, skidded logs and even took a 12' aluminum boat to out of the way lakes. We never got where we were going fast but it always got us there and back.
My dad taught me how to drive a 5 speed in his 1996 Nissan Hardbody. Unfortunately an ambulance totaled it out as I was making a left turn going down a main street. That was real smart as he was on the wrong side of the road with very little traffic coming. It had 200,000 miles on it and ran perfectly even after that driver ran it over. My dad passed away in April of 2023. I miss him very much.
Love my '84 720. It was my great grandfather's, and I've used it to haul more stuff in 1 trip than most of the modern trucks around here move in a year. Excluding the fuel gauge everything just works. Always.
My husband, John Kennedy, worked for both Spencer Lowe and Frank "Scoop" Vessles when they were racing with Nissan. It is fun to see these truck included in this video 🙂
Also the 720 was one of the first independent front suspension 4wd pickups, beating out Toyota. This not only improved ride comfort but also gave it the edge in Baja racing.
1997 Nissan Hardbody 2.4 - 4X4 - busy rebuilding - took out rust - new seats (Amarok) new socks and tires - looking at supercharging the engine. A workhorse that has kept my business going for 24 years now.
Got mine in 2006 owned it ever since only truck I have ever owned. It's a 1995 5speed extended cab v6 even has the LSD rear end. One of the most reliable greatest vehicles I have ever owned. If you take of it it will take care of you! Iam the Second owner of mine it was purchased for 16,500 in 1995 had 52k on the Odometer when i bought it for 7500 in 2006.
My dad had a hardbody nissan. Closest i owned was my 1999 nissan frontier, Se off road package, v6 4x4, 5speed. I never should of sold it. Was so fun. Drive a Titan now. Not the same
I remember back in the 80s, my friend and neighbor bought a fleet of these Nissans for his courier company "Sunrise Courier" here in queen's NY, I can't explain to you how much they beat the shyt outta those little trucks! And they just keep coming back for more! And I also remember their in-laws buying a brand new pathfinder 2 door silver stick, it was so nice! With its slightly oversized tires and 4wd, I still to this day love that little truck! I'd take one over any of these computerized POS'S! I Personally drive a first Gen Tacoma Solid Axle Swap, No Options except AC , less is more to me, I love my simple, now Solid Axle truck , it's still a Minitruck and even with the 2.7 150hp motor, she hauls , from trails at Rausch Creek PA offroad park to 800+ Harley Davidson Motorcycles, she's a great worker!! I wouldn't trade her for the world! #TOYOTAWITHAJEEPAXLE #LAROJATACA
My dad had a 1990 Nissan king cab (4cyl, 4x4) that I learned to drive on in 2001. He ran ems and would peel out when the tones would go off. He would red line it until out of ear shot. I also used to do donut and even jumped some railroad tracks at 100mph. That thing was awesome. It died at 430k miles.
My 95 King Cab is the 3L V6 2wd 5speed I bought it my senior year of Highschool lowered it daily drove it all the way up until I wrecked it put a new core support on the thing now got 295/50/15s all around and use it for autocrossing after I built my own rear over fenders out of 4x4 front fenders absolutely my favorite vehicle I own so much so I bought a 2nd Hardbody but a 96 bagged and body dropped single cab for my show truck lol
I have a daily driver 1985 Nissan 720 4x4 with only 130k miles. All original and everything still works except the AC died about 3 months ago and I think it is an electrical componant failure. I will fix it before it gets too hot!
Fun facts also about the Hardbody not too many people know about! Part of the design team was American and their were the same people that designed the Buick Riviera in the 70's. Also NASCAR drivers in the 80's raced these trucks in the off season to keep up with their skills it was on pavement of course mini trucks.
I had a 1987 V6, 4x4, 5 spd manual. King Cab. It was a great little truck. It would go any where in 4x4. I lost it when an idiot in a 3/4 ton Ford rear ended it. His was a total write off. The Nissan drove OK for some time after but the rear axle gave out. 💲
I’ve had 4 Nissan hardbody’s I’ve worked on them quite a bit you can take the entire truck apart with a 10mm socket and a 13mm socket 2 single cabs 2 extended cabs
I have 2 hardbody’s. I have a 95 king cab 4x4 with 197k miles and a 94 single cab xe lowered on titan rims. I love those damn old trucks. New trucks don’t compare despite the simplicity
Great video I love these trucks and have a 86 D21 and 88 WD21 that are still on the road although the pathfinder is getting rusty. I made a walk around if anyone wants to see.
Honestly people would be more happy if it was a hybrid maybe. Either way I’m all for it if it means we could get small pickups again that meet the EPA standards
You see one almost every day in LA? Not in New Hampshire. 99.9% of them rusted out years ago. Envious of other locations being able to enjoy seeing classics daily.
Personally i don't like big trucks a small truck can do what a big truck cannot like park. Also i have seen bigger heavier trucks get stuck easily where a light truck like a Hardbody or a older Toyoda won't.
How do you mention all of the newest competitors in the 'small truck' world without mentioning the Nissan Frontier? Which is basically the spiritual successor of the hardbody?! >.
Sherman Balch was my mom's cousin she told me a story about the two of them in one of his jeeps that they rolled and my uncle getting mad at her because when he asked them if they were ok she told him happily ya I didn't even spill my beer Sherman wasn't drinking but mom sure was. I hope that Michael Van Runkle reads this so maybe he can ask Chad about Sherman's car washes with his jeep.
When I need to go where a car won’t get me I know my 96 hardbody will get me there, and why pay a mechanic when I can fix anything on my little hardbody when I can do it in the driveway
I shared one with my dad for 15 years. It was 10years old already when we got it. Sold it to my neighbour to pay for last term of college. He was supposed to sell it back to my the following summer plus for any repairs an that guy gave it to his nephew a week after i told him i had the money. Still disapointed an that was 3 years ago

Awesome ! I have the same but 89' I call it my 4x4x4
i have a 97 Nissan hardbody XE, Runs great! love driving a truck that’s older than me!

280k miles and mines still running like a charm. Had no idea of the d21 Baja trucks. Great vid, thanks!

I love my 720. Can fix in any parking lot. Got a weber carb, cam, and headers on it. Very nice.
Also the 720 was one of the first independent front suspension 4wd pickups, beating out Toyota. This not only improved ride comfort but also gave it the edge in Baja racing.
The first usable extended cab too.
I really miss the mini trucks. Wish they would make a comeback

After my first hardbody, i never bought any other truck BUT a hardbody. Since 2018 - now
My dad had a 1990 Nissan king cab (4cyl, 4x4) that I learned to drive on in 2001. He ran ems and would peel out when the tones would go off. He would red line it until out of ear shot. These trucks are so awesome
My father had a 86 hardbody and mazda b2000 that i also have good memories of reason why i have my 720 4x4 it just feels right
Long live the Minitrucks!
Love mine with Datsun engine. Live in Canada. Hate finding parts.
Had 84 d50 2wd long bed brownish, 89 little lifted d50 4wd short bed. Both used and a 93 Nissan 4wd new.
Fun facts also about the Hardbody not too many people know about! Part of the design team was American and their were the same people that designed the Buick Riviera in the 70's. I believe the baja hardboday had the 3.0TT from the 300zx
Called Navara in many other global markets. super tough

Great video I love these trucks and have a 86 D21 and 88 WD21 that are still on the road although the pathfinder is getting rusty. I made a walk around if anyone wants to see.
What's a wd21? The SUV code?
@@danielescobar7618 yes
Imagine an ELECTRIC Hardbody. Modern interior, classic exterior, electric motor. I think it would be sick!
I gotta say, that montero (we know them as pajeros down here) looks real nice
Love the hardbody trucks. I do not like the new trucks at all. Haven't owned a truck in years. I do miss the 2 hardbody trucks I had
You didn't mention the Frontier, which is essentially a hardbody!
720 SUPPERIORTY WHERE ARE YALL
Yo!
Personally i don't like big trucks a small truck can do what a big truck cannot like park. Also i have seen bigger heavier trucks get stuck easily where a light truck like a Hardbody or a older Toyoda won't.
I want to fix my dads but idk 🤷🏻♂️ f it’s worth it is soo bit up
My 86 kingcab v6 has 37 inch tires and now im scared of blowing the engine
How did you fit those?
Some of the early hardbodies were Carburated even the v6 was in the early days.
У меня Nissan Terrano wd21 '91 с механической МКПП 👍
The nissan silvia didn't have a truck motor it had the sr20det. Also a 240sx is not a real silvia. The 240sx in the states came with the 2.4 KA motor.
How do you mention all of the newest competitors in the 'small truck' world without mentioning the Nissan Frontier? Which is basically the spiritual successor of the hardbody?! >.
It's all fun and game until you have to change the oil pan gasket.
Nissan just made a new one and it was in SEMA.
Now if i go out to the street in front of my house i will see at least one ,, unfortunately it was discontinued 2016
Had a 97 5 speed, burnt more fuel than a v8, a 87 5 speed which hit a cow and was totaled
😃🤩
