The rifle arrived today and I dialed in the scope just a couple hours ago th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL . I haven’t shot with a scope in probably 25 years. The X on the left was my target. (the shot almost in the bullseye on the right X was my father in laws first shot after I made adjustments) The two shots circled are my first 2 shots. Then I brought it down - shot once. Then brought it over to the left. From there zeroed it in to dead center. This all was from 25 yards out. Follow instructions carefully when mounting the scope. So far I'm very happy with the purchase.

The 1886 Winchester rifle in 45/70 was probably one of the very best American rifles ever made. I think this rifle could have serve in military applications as well. You have to wonder why the U.S. Army didn't adopt the 1886 Winchester as a service rifle. It would have worked well for many decades. It was a good enough rifle design to be evolved into just about anything the U.S. military would have needed.

I've heard so many good things about the 1886, like the prominent youtuber hickok45 says it might be his favorite gun of all time.
I heard the reason why the military didn't pick them up was because they were viewing bolt actions as more reliable and easier to use from a prone position which was becoming more common in warfare at that time.
I wonder if anyone will make a 150 year anniversary edition in 2036 of the 1886 like they did with the 1873 last year.
Coz I was born in 1986 and will turn 50 in 2036 so it'd make a pretty cool 50th present lol

That is a fantastically beautiful rifle!!! That sort of accuracy at 100m with open sights is nothing to sneeze at.

I purchased a stainless steel Gide Gun in France a few months ago. It shoots just like yours at 50 and 100 m range.
It’s fantastic, it does better than some other riffles with scopes. My favorite rifle next to a couple 44 mags and a 9422 Winchester.
45-70 caliber is the only government I trust, specially from Pedersoli

Factory loads generally don't shoot as tight as hand loads. I have a 500 grain bullet that come from a mold I had custom made and it gives me 2" groups at 200 yards with my Pedersoli Sharps Boss gun fitted with mid range Kelly soul target sights. This Pedersoli repro is awesome. You are one lucky guy. You do what I have always dreamed of. I'm too old now, but I love guns and especially "Historical" firearms such as those of yesteryear.

Mr. Balazs, you are correct, your 100 yd. group looks like one from my scoped 30'06 at 100 yds. with 180 grain bullets. Great group, beautiful rifle. I know it will be a little on the "pricey" side, but well worth the price. Thank-you, Dante.

Great review and beautiful rifle! Personally in the strong action lever guns I've always been partial to the Marlin actions over the 92 and 86 Winchesters! But as usual Pedersoli blows it out of the park with a beautiful repo!

Great review! Pedersoli is the epitome of the 1886. I own two Uberti 1873’s 45 long colt and the 44-40 and the Italian craftsmanship is unsurpassed in my opinion. They are such a pleasant shooting experience. I’m can’t wait to add the 1886 to my collection but very very hard to find them in the U.S.

I have one and I get pretty great accuracy like you did . I shoot Orange shotgun target clays off a berm no problem at 100 yards. That was some outstanding shooting you did at 100 meters. Great Job! Incredible group! I reload my own cartridges as well. Makes it a lot more satisfying when you get accuracy like that!

+Rickey Ryan you mean to say you do not believe me? one thing to consider is even with rifled muskets I've heard of people getting shot at between four to six hundred yards with them maybe not consistently or even with a lot of power but that's rifled musket now with a lever action rifle was smokeless powder that's definitely possible especially if somebody's used the same combination of ammunition and rifle for about 25 to 30 years. otherwise let's think about this at a thousand yards people are able to score hits with an M14 with open sights. maybe not Bullseye accuracy but still they're able to hit man sized targets at a thousand and I've even heard of Russian bolt-action hitting at seven to nine hundred yards with open sights.... but then again that's something that's sacred to me as hunting on a cultural level especially. have a good day sir

    • @FordPrefect23
      @FordPrefect23 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I've seen a guy here on youtube using a Mosin Nagant shooting his own hand loaded rounds hitting a 12-18" target at 1000 yards time after time. In the trenches of the first world war when the Americans eventually joined there was a group of excellent marksmen picking off German troops at 1 mile plus with their Springfield rifles over open sights. The poor Germans would see a friend drop down dead and hear the shot ring out afterwards as the sound caught up to the bullet.
Some people will always scoff at such tales, most probably they think because they can't do it, no one can.

Good to know you found a great load with a 350 grain projectile. I've always thought that weight would produce favorable results in the 45-70. The only thing I would want differently on that rifle is a shorter magazine ammo tube to save a bit of weight. Yet, I'd keep the 26 inch barrel for velocity and accuracy. And probably a recoil pad and a tang sight.
