    Maybe I'll get the courage to chuck up the piece of cherry I've been saving now. Did you consider putting a bit of CA on the bark before the final turning? I understand that it helps keep it secure.

      If you are using CA to help keep the bark, apply it to the cambium layer (between the wood and bark). The cambium is like a sponge and will soak up the CA glueing it to the bark and the wood.
