  • HI everyone, in this video we go over our 5th gen toyota 4runner interior build, that we find works great for stealth camping as well. As you may know already, We've owned a RTT prior to this, so I go over some pro and cons of both and tell you which one I would recommend,. As well as just a full on review of the interior set up and how it works.

    Thanks for showing the drive and sleep mode and getting in and out. So many videos skip over this and it’s super vital info to know how to go between both modes

    Didn't realize Rusty had gotten sick? Hope he is well now!!! Love your 4 runner setup!

      Thank you! And Yeah he was vomiting and and pooping blood for a while there. No explanation as of why other then probably stress induced. We left him back at the house and a couple hours later came back to a mess. And lasted for a few days. Guess the poor little guy doesn't like to be left alone anymore. Even though there's another dog there with him. But he's doing better now fingers crossed it stays that way.

    Very cool and stealthy! It's always cool when you can camp and no one knows it. Love the set up!

    Thanks for sharing your adventures & builds. Very informative as I’m also going through a 4Runner build as needed. For those times stealth camping, have you considered an awning w/attachable panels when you want reprieve from the bugs/weather but not ready to jump into the rig? If so what kind?

    • @UprootedAdventures
      @UprootedAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah that's something I meant to throw in there and forgot, also forgot to mention the wind noise in a RTT and how much quieter a interior build is haha. But ARB with annex would be my choice For 4runner, give you nice cooking living area when the bugs or weather is bad. Something we plan to out in here in the future. I like the batwing models but not there annex style so much as well the batwing I heard hit the rear hatch if you open it. Best of luck on your build which ever route you choose!

    I'm all about the inside the truck setup.
    It's stealth, and allows room on the roof rack for other gear.
    I built my own on my 3rd gen, and recently added an awning with an awning room that allows entry into the 4runner from inside the room.
    So essentially my sleep system/drawer setup, plus the awning room are one large camping area.
    Only thing I don't like is limited head room inside the truck.

    • @UprootedAdventures
      @UprootedAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that was the problem for me, I like to be able to sit up if need be. Otherwise I loved the set up.

    Nice setup - thanks for sharing!
    Since you removed the 2nd row seats, did you consider moving the fridge underneath the platform and have a hinged access door?

    • @UprootedAdventures
      @UprootedAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, and there was just no room, we had that thing full to the brim lol. And we packed as light as possible. Only the necessities. If it was just a one person set up, I could see making it happen. But when you got two people and a dog. Just fills up quick haha.

    Awesome setup! Would it be possible to share the window nets & blackout covers? Desperately need those for my 4Runner.

    • @UprootedAdventures
      @UprootedAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The window nets I just found on Amazon. And the black out covers you can get at the weather tech website. Sorry don't have the links but shouldn't be to hard to find. I need to update my links haha.

    Hey - appreciate the video. Where on-line did you find the “used” drawer system???

    • @UprootedAdventures
      @UprootedAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just on Facebook marketplace. Some one had it for sale. That's how I found out about McKinsey craft co that actually builds those units.

    Where do you store your clothes? I bought a Yakima RT Cargo Box for extra storage.

    • @UprootedAdventures
      @UprootedAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We each have a separate good sized clothing bag we use, and we just store it on each side behind the seat, I have it so there's just enough room to do so.

    What’s the weight on the drawer system?

    • @UprootedAdventures
      @UprootedAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea haha, but it's not to heavy you can take it all out or put it in yourself. But having a helping hand would be nice too.

    I am really leaning towards interior camping in my 4Runner. I didn’t see the mattress in the gear list.

    • @UprootedAdventures
      @UprootedAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I don't have it listed down there, but it's the 4inch Milliard trip folding full size mattress, got it off Amazon. And nothing against roof top tents, they have their uses for certain vehicles, but for the 4runner I love the interior set up.
