As a Portuguese, from Porto (birth place of the francesinha) I can safely say you did it justice. I'm quite impressed. It's obviously very hard to replicate outside of Portugal, but you did alright! I'll just leave some key notes for a future improvement:
- Francesinha is always only 2 slices of bread - it's never a double-decker;
- The sauce is supposed to be spicy and tangy, while very boozey - thickening it with the slurry is obviously a handy shortcut but it shouldn't take any flour, it should be reduced heavily so the flavors get enhanced and ahve a glossy feel and texture;
- Usually francesinha takes fresh sausage like you used (even though we don't make a patty out of it, we just split it open from its casing) and linguiça - which is similiar to chorizo so I would suggest using that instead of that other boiled-type sausage you used;
- Even though some restaurants here do it, you're not really supposed to broil the cheese, the sauce should be hot enough to melt it.
- The sauce is really the hardest part to master so I can only suggest to keep watching traditional portuguese videos to get it right.

Also - two last notes: the pronunciation was as good as you can get from foreigners and the francesinha is most DEFINITELY a one person event :p

As a portuguese, I'll say your guys pronunciation isn't bad at all. "Francesinha" means "Frenchy" . Also, this looks like a great francesinha, well done

Ahh francesinha. ❤ So good. Portugal 🇵🇹 is my fave place in Europe, amazing friendly people, great beaches and great wine and food. Francesinhas are 💣 and I also love bifanas, sopa da pedra, caldo verde and arroz de pato.

I'm an American who was married to a native of the Azores for 22 years. When we would go back for visits I made sure that I had a Franceszinha at least once during our stay. It became epic in my mind and I drove everyone crazy back in the states with my recounting of the virtues of the sandwich because no one understands how life changing this sandwich can be. About two years ago, now back home in California, I undertook a journey to recreate the Franceszinha and have been working on it ever since. In a weird instance of parallel development, it was at about that time that I started noticing the Franceszinha all over TH-cam, so I'm pleased to see that the world has discovered the best sandwich to have ever existed. I'm working my way through all of the recipes, one by one, and some nail it, but for some it's a swing and a miss. The important thing is to make something delicious that you love. And true to the Portuguese, do not forget the booze in the sauce! Obrigado Sam, for making this!

Sandwich looked great..love when you guys do healthy recipes like this! I was in Portugal last year and loved the food scene there. I want to retire there. The seafood, the beef, pork, everything starting with the first pais de nata of the day was excellent.

Regarding the sauce, I would put in less beer (drink the remaining :) and leave the cover off the pan so that it can thicken while cooking. Like when you pour red wine in a sauce for your steak. You will then need less slurry.

First I have heard of that but have made something similar on my own. Mine was just two slices of thick toast, a flattened filet, ground Italian pork sausage, Swiss cheese and southern sausage gravy(like you see southerners put on biscuits). Now will have to try this...in a few years, once I finish my keto diet.

Sam, what a pleasant surprise and great job on that Francesinha! Few tips for anyone interested to try cooking it at home: Sam’s has too much bread and not enough gravy. Gravy should be enough to finish the whole sandwich. Now, to make it next level, take it to a high temp wood oven and serve it with still boiling gravy. Cheese shouldn’t be simply melted, but with that wood roast flavour. Also, gravy should be spicy and please, don’t forget the fries!

Congrats chase, I've had a similar sandwich in fall river mass, little Portugal, had with linguica, and had with chorizo, each corner has different choice, I love going there to shop, get some hot chorizo to snack on while shopping, then sit down next door anywhere and have a sandwich like this🤤, not going til Saturday again, every Saturday like 2 days ago, seems like forever 😭😭
