    • @karleeshayne
      @karleeshayne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I skied most shots until i figured out 3 things, wrist angle, forearm angle, and forearm rotation. 1. For your wrist, think of grabbing a jug and pouring it onto the ground, keep your wrist in this position (relative to your forearm for the entire swing). 2. For your forearm keep your wrist slightly lower than your elbow (relative to your throwing angle), to others your forearm should look flat, but to you it should feel like your wrist is slightly lower. 3. forearm rotation, basically, dont rotate your forearm. going from palm down to palm up will induce a nose down angle, going from palm up to palm down will induce a nose up angle,
      My guess is that you already do #1 you have not even thought of #2 and your problem is probably something to do with #3
      Best of luck, hope i helped :)

    I had just played in a really tough three round B tier and on the last day I had used some of your tips. Mainly pointing my toes in the direction that I wanted to throw and it really helped me hit straight gaps. The only issue that I was having is throwing heavy angled flex shots or anhyzers. Do you point your toes in the direction you're releasing the anhyzer or do you still point your toes where you want it to go? Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks Ricky! 🤘🏼

    • @shawnheidingsfelder8179
      @shawnheidingsfelder8179 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Seems like aiming at the release point makes more sense. If you aimed your feet at your target, you'd adjust your body to throw the anhyzer because you know that's what you want to throw, and you'd make it anhyzer too far. He was using his body to adjust the hyzer angle, not where he was pointing. Might depend on what disc you want to throw as well.

    Ricky is an elite athlete, best in the world. However, elbow, arm, hips is going to cause so many people to lead with their upper body just by definition. Ricky, just like other pro's at his level are firing the hips first and everything else happens naturally in proper kinetic chain after that. Pause the video at 2:52 when it says "Elbow" and you will see his hips are way ahead of everything else, facing outward because they fired. Not sure what he meant to articulate here, but no doubt he's throwing farther than just about everyone.

    • @aarnehalen1686
      @aarnehalen1686 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the comment. Having watched other content I was confused by this, as I was under the impression that hips go first. But I’m a beginner and was just about to hit the field going elbow first, because Ricky said so.

    • @mikebeireis3990
      @mikebeireis3990 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I was totally thinking the same thing that the hips start the swing. I think viewing the hips as firing last is either more of a feel thing or maybe more of a visual thing since the hips seem to not only start the swing but also can be what finishes it after the follow thru is completed..the firing sequence happens extremely fast.

    • @fronkjd8853
      @fronkjd8853 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikebeireis3990 right, they technically swing through after the upper body, but fire first. Throwing is lower body First to upper body last, the follow through is upper body First to lower body last.

    • @mikebeireis3990
      @mikebeireis3990 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fronkjd8853 Yes, I suppose the key takeaway of Ricky viewing the hips coming around last ensures that he has fully followed thru and the swing definitely involved all moving parts and wasn't an upper body throw only, which would cause many problems including minimized power and potential injury...it's definitely interesting to see how the champ thinks about the swing sequence. Follow thru ftw!

      Seems like he's thinking about the hips in a follow-through sense. Anyway, thinking "lead with the hips" leads to a spin out imo.

    • @drkevns
      @drkevns 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Postermaestro only leads to a spin out if you’re twisting instead of shifting your weight forward. Hips move in a lateral motion and then rotate when they hit the end of their range of motion.

    • @michaelr1397
      @michaelr1397 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You always always lead with your arm ,shoulders, then hips. It's the same throw as a placement shot 150ft you throw it with your arm you don't use your hips, it is the same throw long-distance. If he fired his hips first you would see both back pockets on his pants. But here Ricky is getting ready to throw the disc and you still can't see both back pockets.

    • @dislikebutton966

    the one thing that I would love to hear about is what you do technique and timing wise with the left arm right before you start your forward motion with your throwing arm.
    Im finding through trial and error that waiting for the left arm to come down and in first is the key to the timing of proper throwing arm lag to create the sling shot effect. also I think elbow arm hips is not the correct order in which you activate the body parts in a throwing motion. the upper body follows the lower body

    His footwork is driving me nuts. When he initially shows how his steps are, he starts with his right foot....when he puts it together he starts with his left foot. He even says "first step" as he moves his right foot forward. But every time after that, it's the left foot first.

    • @chauncey33

      His left foot looks like a short abbreviated step that's almost autonomous so he probably doesn't even realize it.

    • @NickCarroll
      @NickCarroll 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He actually starts with his left foot, which moves into roughly a 45 degree angle, followed by the right foot, which moves to approximately a 90 degree angle. There's a difference between a walk-up and a cross-step. The walk-up includes all the previous steps, but the cross-step are the last 4 steps of that movement that he's talking about.

    • @BillFromAZ
      @BillFromAZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Nick Carroll he does and that's my point. Between 43 and 60 seconds he shows and describes how he STARTS and it's with his right foot first. He doesn't .say that's his x step...he says that he takes his first step and turns his shoulders. But when he really begins his walk/run up, his first step is the left foot. Kind of...do what I say, not what I do.

    • @NickCarroll
      @NickCarroll 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BillFromAZ yeah this video highlights the point that the pros often say something different than what they actually do. From the historical imprecise use of terminology, to incorrect understanding of some fundamentals, to teaching inaccurately a variety of things. The sport has evolved despite these things, thankfully, and we're starting to nail down a lot of things now.

Only seabas22 has provided information on foot pivoting technique, and I got to those videos too late.
    For those unaware, pay close attention to Ricky's planting foot and how it pivots when he's following through on the throw. That is probably the hardest part to get down when throwing. Your shoes can be too grippy, you may pivot only half the throw...many things can be off but Ricky has a very clean, full pivot that provides most of the smooth transition that allows his momentum to carry into the throw. Very Important!

      That's something that should come natural to anyone who's ever done anything active. I've seen plenty of videos mention it anyway.

    Another pro that tells you to lead with your elbow and then doesn't do it, no one should. has he ever seen any slow-mo fotage? no one leads with their elbow, its always last.

    Interesting that you are the only one that says lead with your arm instead of your hips. All similar sports say lead with hip. Yet you throw far lol

      He leads with the hips

      No he doesn't lead with hips. If his hips went first you would see both back pockets on his pants, but you don't you see only one. Not sure who keeps put out there your hips go first but they are wrong. It's just like a placement shot 150ft you throw it with your arm you don't fire your hips first they fallow. Whenever you watch a video just Freeze Frame it right when the guy releases the disc and you can see that his hips and front foot are still perpendicular on release of the disc.

      @@JJGlyph I watched the vid a couple times and think you are interpreting that correctly. Ricky kind of went all over the place and didn’t use proper sports movement terms which made it a bit more cryptic to follow. He has such a pleasant and energetic personality, it was still fun to watch twice!

      Most pros can’t articulate or teach as well as they can throw.

    Terrible advice. It’s so natural to him that when trying to explain he doesn’t even know how to.
