    Thumbs up to you but I'd love to learn more about the work hours in both hospital and community practice. I practice in Nigeria and community weekend calls can be as long as 24 hours. Also, in Nigerian hospital pharmacy settings, especially government owned hospitals, pharmacists get promoted every two years and consequently, get a raise each time. Is it same for UK hospital practice?

    • @Fashstyleliv
      @Fashstyleliv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends what hospital you work in. In some hospitals here, the entry level pharmacists are the ones on call and may be supported by slightly senior pharmacist. You can be on call during the weekday and you can also have weekend on call. Some hospitals let you go home but be available to come into hospital if need be or just answer whatever query it is from home. While some hospitals require you to be on site for the call.
      With regards to pay, google Agenda for Change Pay-scales and it will give you an idea of how often your salary is increased in the NHS. Of course, if you work in community it is totally different.

    Hii thank you for the video. Does this mean that a clinical pharmacist is basically a specialised hospital pharmacist? From my researches through scooping around online, I know that a general hospital pharmacist is responsible for the administrative work on medications, dispensing the medications, compounding medicines, and they do counselling work on the drug therapy plans with the doctors. They generally work with hospital staffs more and would be in the hospital pharmacy most of the time. From what I saw online, they do not really go around wards and interact with patients.. That's why I am slightly confused on the difference between a hospital pharmacist and a clinical pharmacist as I heard that clinical pharmacists do interact with patients and do ward checks with doctors? Please correct me if I'm wrong 😅 .. I would love to understand more about pharmacy especially in UK. Thank you once again!

    • @Fashstyleliv
      @Fashstyleliv  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your lovely comment. I find that the two terms are used interchangeably. Generally, a hospital pharmacist is one who works in a hospital especially the wards alongside doctors, nurses and other members of staff and they carry out clinical aspects of pharmacy. I think these days, especially in the UK, pharmacists are moving away from working in the dispensary throughout the day. Most of the hospitals I have worked in usually expect the pharmacists to work on the wards and do most of what I have explained in the video. The dispensary have pharmacy technician and assistants and other support workers who dispense medications and check it. I only work in the dispensary once a week for 2 hours and that’s to keep up my checking competency. I will make a video soon explaining in more detail because it is hard to write it all out. I hope this makes a little bit of sense..xx

      I tried to discuss a bit about it in the video but it is indeed broader. You can have a look at the following websites: Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Pharmaceutical Journal, General Pharmaceutical Council, etc. They can help you with some perspective on clinical pharmacy in the UK. I hope that's useful.

    • @Fashstyleliv
      @Fashstyleliv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for watching my videos. Ideally, a clinical pharmacist is one who has completed a course in Clinical Pharmacy but in general terms, most pharmacists work in a clinical setting (usually in the hospital or GP practice or other similar settings) refer to themselves as clinical pharmacists. I think some of the clinical pharmacy courses will require that you have some work experience before commencing their course and I think it would be useful to do so but of course, nothing stops you from applying whilst working. Once you are a UK qualified pharmacist, you can work alongside studying for an M.Sc in clinical pharmacy so it should not be an issue if you want to commence the course sooner than later. I hope this answers your questions.

    I heard that after ospap most of them work in community pharmacist, meanwhile you become a clinical pharmacist, can you explain the procedure

    • @Fashstyleliv
      @Fashstyleliv  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I find that many OSPAP former students work in community and it could be because they may have missed out the timeline for getting a pre-reg placement in hospital. Or it could be that they prefer community. I think it helps to do your pre-reg in hospital if you want to work as a clinical pharmacist although you can still apply for jobs in hospital after pre-reg.

    • @Fashstyleliv
      @Fashstyleliv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, OSPAP is required to be able to practice in the UK as a pharmacist if your degree is from a non-EEA country. It does not matter if you do an M.Sc Clinical Pharmacy with Hospital Practice. It may be better for you to do the OSPAP first and then do the above course. Good luck.

    Hi, i have Bpharm and master in clinical pharmacy, which one should i send to the GPhC? And if i finished the OSPAP does that mean ill need another registration and exams to have my master certificate to be equivalent? Or what are the way to make it equivalent?
    Btw : ur having a great videos and so they're so much helpful

    • @Fashstyleliv
      @Fashstyleliv  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much. You need to send the B.Pharm because that’s your pharmacy qualification but it won’t harm to add in the Masters in Clinical Pharmacy. After OSPAP, you need to go into the training year (pre-reg or Foundation Training Pharmacist year) which is for a year and then write the final assessment at the end. Unfortunately that’s the only way and there are no equivalents. Wish you luck in the process.

    • @Fashstyleliv
      @Fashstyleliv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello, doing a Masters in Clinical Pharmacy without being a UK Pharmacist would not allow you practice as a pharmacist in the UK. If you want to practice as a Pharmacist in the UK, you have to do the OSPAP and go through the entire pre-reg and GPHC exams process which takes about 2 years if you pass everything at once. Once you are qualified, you can decided to undertake an M.Sc in Clinical Pharmacy if you want. Good luck.

    If both clinical or hospital pharmacist can work In the ICU,OR etc?!

    • @Fashstyleliv
      @Fashstyleliv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, once you complete and pass OSPAP as well as the pre-reg and final exam, then you become a UK pharmacist and you can work in several sectors including hospital. As a rule of thumb, if you work in a hospital you are referred to as a clinical pharmacist especially if you work on the wards alongside the doctors/nurses, etc. Of course, you can also take additional courses whilst working as a hospital pharmacist to broaden your knowledge around clinical pharmacy. If you choose and the hospital has opportunities, you can also work in ICU and A&E. It all depends on what hospital you work in. Most hospitals work in rotations of 6 months or 9 months where you get the opportunity to work in several sections of the hospital to help you gain experience and help you decide where you want to specialise in.

    • @Fashstyleliv

      It all depends on the hospital. Surgical pharmacists in the hospital work on surgical wards in the hospital so they need to have a good knowledge of post surgery antibiotics, pain killers and provide pharmaceutical care and support to the surgery team and its patients.

You don’t need to have work experience to apply for the OSPAP program which enables you to become a UK pharmacist. • @Fashstyleliv
      @Fashstyleliv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't really need to have work experience to commence OSPAP but you must be eligible to register as a pharmacist in your country or already registered as a pharmacist. Once you finish your OSPAP, pass and move to pre-reg, that would count as some work experience so when you finally qualify and look for regular pharmacist roles, you would have some sort of experience. You can qualify for permanent residency also known as Indefinite Leave to Remain once you complete 5 years on a Work visa (Tier 2) or 10 years in total of living in the UK under long residency. The years on a post study visa and student visa do not count towards the 5 years for permanent residency but it counts towards the 10 years long residency route. These are the current rules as of June 2021; rules change so best to familiarise yourself with the UK gov website for changes. Hope this helps and good luck.
