Got a CAT in EDC. You can get real ones cheaper after the exp. date and they work just fine. Just like for example Israeli bandage (packing needs to be intact of course). The reason for exp. date for bandages are that it is not guaranteed sterile after it. I think with the CAT the reason is that it is for military use. I know that ammo has expiration date as well so i would GUESS it's because of the supply and storage reasons.
I slashed my radial artery at work and the tourniquet from the medical centre at work failed miserably. It definetly pays to get the best, especially in a life or death situation. Again mate excellent video, keep the good work up.
I've watched a ton of videos on Tourniquets and this one is by far the best video yet! Great presentation, Thank you for sharing :)

I dont know if you mentioned or not but its good to remember to not use these for more than two hours if you dont absolutely need to, after that its anyones guess how long you can wear it before permanent damage, due to restricted blood flow. Some cant even wear for an hour before irrepairable damage, but 2 hours is a good rule of thumb.
I wanted a RAT tourniquet. They are quicker and easier to apply. Especially if you have to put one on yourself one handed. The prices were ridiculous when you consider its a piece of elastic with a metal tag on it. I bought two different cheep Chinese copies from Ebay for £1.50 each. One worked really well. The other not so good. Not enough tension the elastic. Didn't work at all. Great lesson in checking you kit before you need to use it for real. Re holding wrist and elbow. Throw a Sam Splint in your kit. They are small weigh nothing and are really effective.
Since I have a few originals, I have ordered couple blue cheap ones for training and demonstration purposes. I do not see, why that would require real ones. Reals CAT's are not that cheap and don't want to stress those on that. Everyone asking, I suggest them to buy real one for real use, just in case. I have no idea if there are several manufacturers in China and that could cause quality variation, even if the ones I have are pretty strong built.
A very good demo dude. I keep a CAT in my car at all times just in case. With these Chinese knockoffs its always the issue if its 3 times cheaper is it 3 times worse. Do more of these, really cool.
Hey if you're interested in a mockumentary about how Sweden would've reacted to an invasion during the cold war (sort of like the finnish battlefield 2020 video but based in the 80s) then look up "Onset of darkness"! It's all the episodes together with english subtitles. Seriously a great watch
This brings back so many memories, practicing putting cats on eachother in the baracks. There is a clip out there of CHAZ larpers using tourniqets if you wanna se it being used incorrectly!
Are you familiar with Recon Medical tourniquets? They're also made in America and have some additional features I think you might like. I'd like to see you check them out and give your opinion of them. Try the Gen 4 Recon Medical tourniquets. They even have an aluminum reinforced buckle.
Nice video! Some thoughts. time 4:19 the instructions says position the tourniquet 2-3" above the bleeding site"? Do you do it the same way? I'm taught that, in case of gunshot wounds, always position the touriquet as high as possible. In the armpit or groin. If the artery is off it can contract and the bleeding itself is higher up in the body part than the hole on the skin which is visible.
Wished more outdoors, bushcraft and even Prepper channels did direct comparisons, pros and cons ect instead of look at my new shiny name brand reviews. I've done a few first aid courses and the tournequet looked like the CAT one, may well have been, the brand wasn't my focus at the time. Someone else might be using your tournequet on you and the familiarity during a stressful situation might be the difference. Maybe the Cats are a first aid course standard? Saying that, they aren't hugely complicated and cheap is better than a bandanna with a stick. Just a thought.
Hence why you never buy a knockoff. I've been telling people who want a real CAT but money is an issue. LA POLICE GEAR and Galls sell the real deal and also use the sezzle app so you can pay for it over 4 payments 2 weeks apart. Recon medical makes a great cat clone but with their own awesome features and those retail about 16.00 and I love them.
Any chances on some non shiny stuff. 1 Cadence. Do other countries (not US/Canada) have cadence? 2 Chow. How does the food in USMC compare to Army/AF/Navy?
I wouldn't risk my life on poor/cheap quality for first aid especailly. Tried, tested and respected for me. Civilian or otherwise. Plus D-Dey response group has some of the best training for bleed control, check their TH-cam out.
It's generally for piece of mind from the manufacturer as they know when their materials start to degrade, but yeah you can certainly use them effectively if in good condition
I was wondering the same thing. It might be the same case as with mre-s. The exp date of the package is actually of the item that goes bad first. So might be the plastic buckle or the small fabric that can dry out. OR to have the mod throw out the ones not used and buy new ones 🤯🤫
Also has to do with legal security. They can guarantee only to that date. Without it if something did go wrong in say a decade after it's purchase then they could be sued.
Do not apply a tourniquet to the neck to cure a severe nosebleed.
Lol.

Scary situation, glad it ended up ok
@@CombatArmsChannel Yeah thank,s ended up OK , the scar where the plastic surgeons went in is way bigger than the original damage.

During my Time, I have come to realise that many Companies take advantage with the M.O.D. Budget.

No experience but in a contest between nothing and that cheap one i know what id rather have.

Very good job dude.
Why am I watching this? I look like a fat gorilla
edit* will never have any use for this, but still fun to watch!
For training I would get the amazon one. I own a CAT gen 7, i keep it in my rig, and a SOF-T i keep in my CLS pouch.
I got a CAT on everyday carry. Got a few of them still in plastic!
i remember when we were thought how to use these my platoon mate put it so tight i had bruises on my arm for a week
Oh well, but it would have worked...
Great videos as always
You should review Tuntematon sotilas (The Unknown Soldier) 2017.

In a life threatening situation I’ll use my Ferragamo belt if I had to pure leather
Thanks for your service and for the in depth review

I detest cadence lol and food in the Navy/AirForce are way better than Marines/Army
@@CombatArmsChannel I Googled around and really didn't find much cadence outside of the US. Just wondering. When doing PT I GOTTA have cadence.
Cheers

I agree with you. But it's better than nothing. Get one to start and replace with pro-gear afterwards.
@@Locitus Agreed and also to train with. Never train with one you will actually use.
@@pauledwards9493 Exactly.
I was trained to use a piece rope and a stick when I went though basic. Train right and you can use what you have on hand.
Was the hand of that girl saved ?
Why do they have an expire date on.sorry for sounding stupid but I would imagine they last for many many years

Ammunition has expiration dates too.

Buy the cheap ones for training! Buy the real ones for your gear!
You know, in this time you should make a merch face mask based on the gas mask in your profile picture, that would be cool
Haha that would be interesting but I think I missed my opportunity on that one
Oh, what a shame
Did the 16 y/o girl lose her arm or was it fixable? Sounds like terrible accident. Great job on your part. It's always good to be prepared.
Like the cat the best oh never order from China cause they never come anyway I learned that too great video again 🇬🇧🇱🇷🙏

I'd rather have industrial or medical grade over military grade. Military always buys from the lowest bidder. Case in point: boots. :|
