Curious Sea Lion Pup Greets Beachgoers at Huntington Beach Pier 5/31/2015

- Sea Lion pup takes a rest on the beach near the Huntington Beach pier and greets the beachgoers. It seems the pup is attracted to a lifeguard truck and makes its way to the truck. The curious sea lion pup then makes its way back to the ocean and swims away.

Captain's log: I'm lost in an unexplored beach, there are a lot of ugly and hairless sea lions, moving with only their 2 back flippers, I saw a big red thing with no feet, better go back to base
Since they are mammals, I think they want a variety of experiences and scenery too. Sometimes the ocean and sometimes the beach is good.
Cute lil' guy; but the sad thing is, truly he was probably coming onto the beach in search of intelligent life, and when he saw his search was in vain he went back home!

if u think humans are not intelligent life forms then leave ur house and go live in the sea with sea lions 😉 also remove ur clothes and leave all ur belongings
and see how intelligent sea lions are when they eat ur azz

***** The pup was resting when I got there and then became active. He was attracted to the lifeguard truck for some reason. The sea lion also was tagged on its left fin showing that it had been rescued before. He seemed like a pretty healthy little guy. He just had some scratches.

I used to service appliances for Sears. I had to fly to Avalon occasionally for work. I flew in a Grumman Goose seaplane more than once. We were about 300 ft elevation. It was fascinating to see seals, sea lions and dolphins in the channel.

Several years ago I was at Huntington Beach with my family,two seals had beached themselves,one far up shore the other closer to the ocean.
Two lifeguards were standing by each of them, being the curious individual I am ,began to inundate them with questions.
I was that when seals beach themselves,it’s because they’re ill,the one further up shore was very sick,the other not too bad.
We have an incredible marine life rescue team here in Southern California,it took about two hours fir them to arrive ,and the lifeguards stayed close to them,telling us not to approach them,I was glad to see none of these people attempted to approach thus sweet little thing,it didn’t look sick,just curious.
I like how he rides the undertow out.

Lived in OC most of my life, been to Huntington many times. Don't see sea lions that often except when fishermen are at the end of the pier. Been kayaking and maybe a sea lion will come to say hello.

I grew up a few miles from Huntington Beach my dad would myself and siblings every Saturday I had never been this close to a seal until I was a grand mother my daughter her husband and my two grand children had been there for only a few minutes and we noticed a large sea lion rather close to us and another further up in the sand me being an avid animal lover and a very inquisitive person saw two life guards with each seal so I began asking questions I didn't know that when they become ill they beach themselves the closest to the water was alright but the life guard told me not to get too close as it may attack they were there to protect not the animal but USA as well the one further up in the sand was really sick it took about an hour but finally the rescue team came and got them.
This poor little thing it looked sick I hope it was either taken away or eventually went back into the water.

For me, seals look like they are evolving into a 100% marine animal, look how hard it is for seal to run or walk on earth, i look at the tail/feet of a seal and it look like 80% is for being on water and the other 20% is for walk
they get pretty fast when grow up its pretty fine for a baby. going on land is a fine way they escape shark atacks

luckily this happens allot at the beach I live by... and it just happens that beach is also usually empty.... I have to say, HANDS DOWN, grilled sea lion is by far the best sea food I've ever had.... matter of fact we are heading back out there tomorrow, taking the grill just incase we get lucky
He took a huge risk landing on American beach,as not even the Germans would dear,as they know more chance of being shot,now if it was a French beach especially in 1939 they would just surrendered.
Why would anyone tag a seal?

He had been rescued and released before. That tag has an identifying number and can be used to tell if he had been rescued before, or if he's sighted somewhere (and enough such tagged sea lions also tracked) they can track his movement and get data on sea lion migration patterns, etc.
Is that kind of stuff not obvious?
