Hsieh is a magician, a geometric genius who hits seemingly impossible shots. She proves that precision trumps power. I hope she gets more recognition!

She has no sponsors. When she was young, she led a poor life and needed to help financially support her family of six younger siblings. Despite those difficulties, she won every match with all-out effort. (In tears) She is amazing!

Su-Wei Hsieh has been well known as a tricky placement player with occasional super angle shots and acute slice shots. But I don't think she can beat anyone. Simona Halep just didn't have her day. We don't expect Su-Wei Hsieh to reach Semi-Final in Wimbledon.

I'm sorry for Halep. Hsieh was sensational, it's amazing how much being an unseeded player motivated them this year.
I actually had no expectations from Simona because two days ago she said she's hurting everywhere and that grass is not her fave surface. Hoping she'll do better at us open.
Wishing Hsieh good luck into the next round, and who knows, maybe winning, she's a smart player.

Great match by hsieh. I watched this match and hsieh saved two match points by hitting amazing winners when halep looked dominating. Hsieh never gave up. This match showed that power is not always the winner but great technique and placement, because halep had more powerful groundstrokes than hsieh. I thought halep was going to win at 5-2 up in the third set, but she choked as per usual. Will halep join majoli, stosur, myskina, Ivanovic as one slam winners or will she win more slams? Only time will tell.

One of THEE best women's matches that I have ever had the privilege of watching. Well done to them both. Bravo Su-Wei.

Wow, cannot believe Hsieh defeated the big boss because Halep looked pretty solid prior to this match! Good job!

While there shouldn’t be any consideration of race and so on, in general Asians are considered to be weaker physically and at a disadvantage in sports involving a degree of athleticism. Therefore when an Asian does well people applaud them for their achievement despite their inherent physical disadvantage.

changyang1230 sorry but it's a silly comment because it's not true really. Have spent considerable time in Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan and saw no lack of atheletism in any of these countries compared to the West.

what I’m trying to get at is that considering she’s made it as a pro, I don’t think that generalization applies to her as she’s made it this far already. I think that that general stereotype, while appkicable to a majority of us (most Koreans are more brain that brawn), she has no “inherent disadvantage” other than possibly size. There’s no reasonable way to conclude that someone has an inherent disadvantage just because of their race.
