Set a course record in our city in the late 80s, first time he seen the course chatting away and giving tips to two fine local amateurs he played with. It seemed like every approach ended up next to the pin after a low 20 yard fade
Actually it was the chip ranked at number 3. 17th hole, final round. Jacklin was so deflated by it, he bogeyed the lead away. He later said he never recovered from that moment. It effectively ended his career
I think for most, a chip in was / is considered lucky. Not if you have a world class short game and you are trying to do it. Ask Gary Player and a little later Seve from back then.
THEY GOT ME BACK IN THE GAME AGAIN BABY!
What a great player and gentleman. Lee!
best sense of humour in golf
Today's players seem dull by comparison. A Legend.
and he mace this shots under tournament pressure - amazing
The day when shot makers were king 🤴...
The abilities these guys had with the rudimentary clubs?
Phenomenal
Mr Lou... absolutely love Mr Lou..
Semper Fi🥰
Very special talent
Golf misses personalities like this. Trevino was pure box office.
The chip on the 17th to save par at Muir field won him the open in 72. Had to b #1.
Famous shot. And ruined Jacklin

I grew up watching all these great players, today it's very robotic, back then players were more creative, Mr Trevino was magical and still is.
That chip in against Jackiln @2 affectively retired Tony from pro golf.

Says a lot
It truly gutted him at the moment and afterwards, he said it himself. The way Lee stole it would have affected anyone
Master of the chip-in!
Super Mex!
what is the song at the beginning of the video?
It might be the opening theme track for Big Trouble in Little Vagina, if not possibly on the soundtrack of Add Momma To The Train.
I’m not sure, but it certainly is groovy..
He left Willie hanging there at 2:27
Did diabolical mean something different back then or have just misunderstood the word my whole life?! 🤣
Was thinking the same thing 😂😂😂
Yes,you have.
it was diabolical because the announcer was rooting for Jacklin.

A lovely video spoiled by having stupid music in the background, making it tricky to hear what Henry Longhurst is saying.

It's the British Open. I'm an American. It's the British Open. It's not THE Open.
Was there ever a more relaxed player? Other than Couples…
