The MV backstory is doppelgängers and is inspired by the movie US. The beginning frame and the ending frame you see them in different outfits which means they’ve all be replaced. My theory for this MV, Gahyeon is playing the main character of the MV. She has a cage at the beginning is just a representation of her not being trapped and she knows what’s going on. Jiu is possibly the hotel receptionist/controller and is playing the puppeteer part. Near the end you see both Jiu and Gahyeon running means she’s been caught and at the end Gahyeon could not escape and capture to the underground world with the rest of the OG DC. The mirror also plays a role in the MV, after Sua’s rap, the background now has a mirrored image of the carousel but there you see the girls are split in red outfit and white outfits BUT the hotel reception Jiu is not there. The hand handing out the apple from the mirror is also representing the doppelgängers have lure or trick the girls then all of the fake Dreamcatcher got released from the mirror world and took down the real Dreamcatcher. In one scene Handong shows a portion of her legs and got dragged in to to the underground world and the doppelgänger replaced her at that point. On to the song title itself BEcause is a play on word. BE is sadness in Chinese Bēi/悲 and breaking that character a part is 非/fēi/negative or no. 心/xīn/heart so combining all of that it could means it is sadness because the love is negative. Jiu the leader explained the meaning of the song is that you love someone too much and it becomes obsession and wanting to own that person which it can turn in to sadness. Now.. I can’t get over how amazing Gahyeon changes her facial expressions at the beginning..the smirks then the frown is very sinister and I love it!!
I can't stop thinking about how Gahyeon's faces change so quickly and shockingly, it's so creepy. We already knew Gahyeon's a top tier facial actress, but WOW. Also I love how the rapidly changing faces match up with the really strange rhythm and tonal shifts in the song itself, it's simultaneously sweet and creepy and exciting and intimidating all at the same time.
The facial expressions are even more eerie with the lyrics - she takes what could be very sweet lines & uses her face _just so_ to make them downright sinister

To be honest, I didn't know if they could top Odd Eye, but this song really got me. At first I thought it might be that "new-car-smell" effect where something shiny seems cooler in the moment, but nope. After repeat listens, I can 100% say that this is my new favorite.

I thought it was pretty funny that sometimes Handong and Yoohyeon get mixed up sometimes anyway (glad it's not just me...). And here, they are both blonde, just making things more muddled. I still sometimes mix up Siyeon and SuA. PRETTY SURE I have it ironed out for the most part but I still mistake them for each other once in a while...
For me SuA and Handong is the highlight of this MV. Handong in the hotel lobby just looks like drop dead gorgeous! I could die for that woman. She is just beyond everything I saw before. Also SuA's whisper rap, ocean view, the pre-chorus. She also grown on me, she is just the whole package.

The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. One commenter noted that if you look at "BE" as a written character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". That commenter is Jad Hamizan and he deserves all the credit for noticing that. The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "You turn blue, blue. Your face is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. If you want to find a connection to the Dystopia trilogy, you could say that this might be a criticism of overly obsessive fans, who turn to malicious comments and other bad things, but I am not sure about that. FINALY SOMEBODY MENTIONED THE WHITE DRESSES!!!!!!!! YASS!!!! They look so good in them. I only saw one performance in those dresses and they were blue, not the same white ones as here but still very nice
