  • This years ProSolo at Hampton Mills in Packwood WA is a weekend that I will not forget.
    Prior to the event I was going back and forth on changing what class I would race in. I settled last minute on changing to XS class for the main reason it was basically CAM but allowed me to run at a lower weight. At ProSolo this put me into the S3 super class with various other classes. Little did I realize, the PAX index would really handicap me. My RAW times were faster than others, yet due to the PAX index it would lower me in the standings.
    Little did any of us know there would be an incident during the first class runs on Sunday morning, ending the event in a tragedy. We all await the official response from SCCA. They were hard at work Sunday as they started their investigation.
    My thoughts go out to everyone at Packwood this weekend and their families.

    Videos like this are difficult to make. They are necessary though. Thank you for being you and documenting these awesome videos.

    Thank you for pitching in and helping at the scene. And thank you for posting this video. This is a very hard thing for the community to process.
    This video gives a little more context and understanding for those who weren't there. I still don't know what exactly happened but between the SCCA statement ("continued past the finish line and struck another member and a solid structure") and your video of the course, I can make an inference (which I will keep to myself).
    If I am correct, this really truly looks like a freak accident. But I will consider this in all of my future event/course design. I will continue to look out for more information. As a community it's important we learn from these incidents and improve so that it cannot happen again. But no matter what we do, there will always be an inherent risk to motorsports.

      I really didn't want to say much out of respect for the families of those involved. I would use the phrase freak incident to describe it, this same thing could happen to people on/around a public road.
      Allot of people really pitched in to help and I'm glad so many great people were at the event. Many thanks to everyone that helped, this was a group effort. I really hope everyone who was hands on is processing this and seeking help if needed. This isn't my first incident but normally I don't personally know the patients I'm helping so that makes it hard, I can't image what others are going through.

    Desmond was my little brother. I didn’t know five minutes ago why I clicked on this link. It certainly was not to watch him perish too young. I couldn’t be more moved by your compassion for the loss of Des and Amber, as well as your professional participation in the immediate aftermath. You helped to spare Des additional pain and trauma and I am grateful for that.
    Perhaps the thing that moved me most was the restraint you exercised in publishing this video. In a medium where “likes” drives too many You tubers, you made the moral choice to spare his and Amber’s respective family the sight of the crash. Just reading about it, or hearing details from witnesses and friends that were there…that is difficult enough.
    Thank you. Christina Toups
    Mostly, I admire your

      Thank you for the thoughtful comment. For me it helps to talk things through,, but i know that TH-cam is not the place for it. My heart goes out to you all. I've talked with allot of people who were their with me and it's been rough for people. Des and Amber meant allot to allot of people and no one ever expected anything like this to happen.

    Thank you for your contributions on scene and always keeping tools on you. We are going to implement quite a few changes at our club, so that we can be better prepared as well.

      I'm involved in a few local clubs as well, even on the board of directors of one. I have things I will be bringing up to all of them. There is always room for improvements. Simple things like I was the only one with a knife/seat belt cutter. Having that saved allot of crucial time.
      While not everyone needs training, I think having atleast one person who really knows how to use a fire extinguisher, break a window, get side curtain airbags down, basic life support, ect would be simple things to improve upon. Course layout is important but freak incidents are hard to plan for.

    It really is tough when - when you put your firefighter suit on, you know this is possible - but when you go autox, it really is the last thing that would ever cross your mind. We do this because it's safe.... until it's not. I get it, to anyone, there is no shame in reaching out the numerous support organizations that are there to help when a holiday turns to tragedy. Thank you for posting.

    hey man, thank you so so so much for being there. I was helping with what i could, and those extinguishers were just not enough for the fire. I remember you running around helping them and helping the victims. I'm not use to this kind of thing, and I went into shock with some of the events. I couldn't do that as a job.

      I'm glad I was there with my racing family and friends. Thank you for your help, I know it's not easy for people. Firefighting and being an EMT take a different perspective. I just naturally run towards things like that and find myself in a sense of calm with a purpose while in the moment. I'm thankful so many helped, what was done couldn't have been done so fast without everyone's support, thank you all that were there !

      Deepest condolences to you. I'm in shock as well. I gave Des a fist bump at the start line (I was scanning helmets). Such a loss.

      @@oisforoffroad His last human interaction! I am jealous! He and I learned to drive fast very early in life from our father. He apparently made better use of the lessons that I did. Man, Could that dude drive!

    Good video! So glad you were on site with the training you have.
    I don't want to take away from what happened - but on a happier note - Saturday looked like a blast

      I'm just glad I could help.
      I didnt mention it enough in the video, Allot of people really pitched in to help. I'm glad so many great people were at the event. Many thanks to everyone that helped, this was a group effort.
      I made this video while I was still processing things, normally we would have a crew debrief after an incident and making this video helped me process.
      Sat was a blast. My driving wasn't the best but I came this weekend to practice my launches and get more seat time.

    Great video. Thanks for this. Was the course run we see in this video the same one laid out for Sunday? Did they change the course for Sunday?

    • @oisforoffroad
      @oisforoffroad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Left and right courses were the same for both days.
      Overall It was basically the same as last year's ProSolo at packwood.

    Course is too small, too tightly packed, was an accident waiting to happen. Sad.

    • @oisforoffroad
      @oisforoffroad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree, it was not too small nor was it an accident waiting to happen. Packwood is one of the largest venues in the Pacific Northwest. If you were on site you would see that it was rather large for PWN sites.
      It is sad what happened.
