    Twice we’ve taken $800 vans on 5000 mile round trips. NS Canada to Houston TX. First was an 01 caravan, which we took through Elizabethtown PA on the way back to pick up some stuff, and the 2nd one was an 04 ford freestar.
    The only thing I hate about those Chrysler/dodge vans is the power window switch “bezel” that digs into the side of your leg
    Dodge leaked power steering fluid and coolant the whole time, as well as a CEL. Ford had a CEL and if I remember right that’s it

    love your vids, nice dog :), regarding your exhaust be sure to wrap it with a tape called 'fiberfix heat wrap', you get the tape and when it dries it welds like metal and you can wrap and fix your exhaust with that, will make a great vid too cause i fixed my exhaust with it it saved me alot otherwise i wouldve have to pay to get it welded. stay safe my new friend :)
    .Exhaust- repair with fiberfix heat wrap
    door rust and general rust- spray some rust spray and then bondo it and for bigger gaps use bendy metal to shape it up
    .Weatherstripping- just superglue it back with flexglue
    .Abs- Can assure you its just a sensor or a sensor thats been tugged on journey so just reset abs light and if it comes back on then put new abs sensor in cheap fix
    .Alternator- autozone and get a proper one fitted in
    .Wheel trim- autozone em
    best and cheapest method and practically will make such a cool video

    I have a 00 Chrysler Grand Voyager I bought 12 years ago from VT for $500. Rusty shock towers but reliable the whole time just had to retire it because of the rust. Bought another 00 Chrysler almost 6 years ago that is my daily driver from auction for $400. Rust issues also. Just recently bought a 06 Grand Caravan from Copart for $375 but probably won't keep it because it is very trashed. Love these vans that is why I own 5 of them from various years.

    In my Toyota matrix day the alternator whine started the car put itself in limp mode, got me home and it was seized!!! So that’s amazing lol.
    I had a 2007 of the same car, limited model. Bought it from family. Got my moneys worth with 3 (much shorter road trips and a year of driving) than finally at 31 yrs old, bought my first new (certified preowned) car. After literally 20 cash cars. Been driving it over a year and I’m happy with my purchase but I am totally all for just buying cash cars, getting your moneys worth and selling them cheap to someone deserving and using the cash towards another car that costs under 2500. I have had my fair share of $700-1500 cars under 80k miles

    My parents bought a 2009 Dodge caravan 3.3L brand new and so far, aside from normal routine maintenance, it has all original parts and always starts. It never broke down, and still has the original battery with 80% life left. It's sad Dodge is discontinuing the van series soon, and I can understand crossovers are today's popular trend, but I will miss the vans. I live in Canada, and the only real downside to our van is that it doesn't have all wheel drive, it gets stuck on the occasion when there is 20cm of snow or more, but otherwise it is perfect. It has good fuel economy, it's comfortable, it's spacious, and it's reliable. Sure it can't exactly go on off road terrain too well, but at the same time, there are either paved roads or gravel roads everywhere now. Where will you go to actually need the crossover AWD, suspension, and extra height? And out of everyone who has a SUV or crossover, how many actually take their vehicles on roads that a van can't go on? Hardly any.
    Sorry for my rant, again will miss these vehicles.

    For some reason, that van makes me nervous ....with you and beetle road tripping in it. Mechanically, not so much as u can do parking lot repairs if needed....and theres always a parts store somewhere in the area. More so, worried abt the crumbling rust thats eating the van. If i was your neighbor, here in Canada, d give u a vehicle ....Take care of Beetle amd yourself. Love your vids

    Our 2005 runs great at almost 160,000 miles and rides super smooth . I would trust it in a heartbeat ! Took a bit to get used to the wipers though ! lol! Never had a car with them like these are coming up from the center like they do. We have had to replace the brushes and coupler on the alternator before.

    I had a 2004 dodge caravan that made it to 450,000 miles with no issues until we hit a rainstorm 2 years ago and fried the ecu. We had our fare share of comfortable road trip hassle free back then. I kind a miss it sometimes.😊

    ur mistaken... it's not alternator whine... it's a supercharger hidden underneath lol jokes aside... it's amazing the poor thing made it, if i owned it i would have changed the muffler and alternator before departure cos I really don't wanna endure that drone and risk getting stranded in the middle of no where...

  • @glenncapron2982

    It maybe the power steering pump whining. I had a town and country with a whine and after replacing the alternator the whine still was there. It was the power steering pump.

    • @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182
      @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it does sound similar to the power steering but since it doesn't worsen when I turn the wheel I can tell its the alternator

  • @paulreed563
    @paulreed563 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    That whine is the power steering pump, not the alternator.
    Noise happens because of the filter inside the reservoir is plugged. Replace the reservoir, noise will be gone.

    • @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182
      @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No its the alternator. The bearing is what causes the whine. I have replaced it and the whine is gone. There will be a video on it soon

    I have a Chrysler town and country myself with 193k miles on it, and I can tell you that it doesn’t have the original alternator. As for the ABS light, did it go away when you drove it again after the road trip? I get an ABS light that comes on in my van once every month. Then when I drive it again, it goes away.
