It wasn’t just a Tarantino thing - the exact same scene happens in the book the movie was based on: “Rum Punch” by Elmore Leonard. It’s a good read. QT stayed pretty faithful to the book, except the book was set in Miami. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. De Niro’s performance is so fantastic; it’s one of his best performances.

I didn’t even know about this group until watching this movie. But the truth is that Grass Roots didn’t compose this music and didn’t play any instrument on this record. They just sang. All parts was played by session musicians.

It wasn’t just a Tarantino thing - the exact same scene happens in the book the movie was based on: “Rum Punch” by Elmore Leonard. It’s a good read. QT stayed pretty faithful to the book, except the book was set in Miami. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. De Niro’s performance is so fantastic; it’s one of his best performances.
