During 8 years, I learned Korean through Korean dramas so i wasn’t confident when it came to grammar and writing but thanks to exchange program in uni, i was able to attend a Korean University and study level 2 intensively. Those 3 months of classes increased my level and knowledge much faster than years of independent studies. I applause *r h e a* for her consistently and hard work to be able to achieve this fluency in just 2-3 years. She gave me motivation to study again and be more consistent. ~ from a Korean learner and new vloger 😊
It would be so cool if you could make a video talking about your journey why you started and how it's been, what kept you going, when you started seeing improvement etc and also what are your goals at this stage of your language learning
I'm so glad I found your videos! I'm in a beginner Korean class right now and have been feeling overwhelmed at how much I still have to learn, but your videos have encouraged me to calm down and study consistently rather than trying to take everything in at once. Thank you for the wonderful tips! I look forward to more videos~
4:23 I think that reading along while listening is good as it can strengthen your understanding of sounds when correlated to words. I don’t know about This for sure, but I think it is logical to deduce that by reading along with listening, you can get a better grasp of when words start and when they end since the transcripts help make that more obvious. You can also associate words to sounds, I find that it helps me a lot when I want to read in that language, because I can see the type of inflection they use with certain clauses. For instance, in English, if you say “I like cake because it is sweet” you say it with a different inflection compared to “Because cake is sweet, I like it” they essentially mean the same (there is a sliiiiight difference in nuance, but honestly it’s not so big that it’s worth mentioning in this situation) but the inflection for these sentences are different, if you use the correct intonation for one sentence and you map that onto the other, it will sound unnatural, buuut this can be avoided if you read and listen, because then you can be like “oh, this inflection goes with sentences that are parsed like this, but they don’t go with sentences that are parsed like that” etc. I think that an issue may occur when you’re dividing your attention unequally. If you listen, doze off (but are still listening), then realize you’re not reading and then try to catch up, just turn the transcript off because you’re not using it to it’s full potential anyways, so what’s the point in keeping it on? If you find yourself paying attention to the reading more and kinda tuning out the listening which is causing you to be behind, then either make it a reading comprehension time and turn off the video and continue to read or just turn off the transcript like you suggested, because if you really want to hone in on listening, then _only_ paying attention to the written words is a waste of time.
Great video!!✨ Input study is super important, listening without subtitles in our mother language (for example, I'm Spanish so listening a Korean TV show without Spanish subtitles) is the best way to immerse yourself and improve fast. In my opinion, also trying to make yourself think in the language you're studying and not translating every time you want to say something is a nice way of improving and having an understanding of the language you couldn't have if you have to translate every word every time. Anyways I'm rambling now 😂 loved the video and looking forward to the next one ❣️☺️ keep up the good work and take care 😆
You had me at 1:27 with the LoL TH-cam content. My first taste of Korean culture was through esports. Some of the best players and teams come from Korea. One of my long term goals it to be able to understand the interviews without translations or listen to the Korean casters. I'm gonna study hard in order to achieve it!
While learning korean, i often find myself in a slump. I dont feel myself improving, and i also immediately realize that having so many references wont do me any good 😅 i feel like i need a syllabus or a course to feel that i am improving. Have you also been in a slump while learning korean? If so, what did u do to break out of it? Thank u!
Hey.. I've been there. For me it's because I lack motivation and consistency. So I try to push myself each day. Before sleeping I just pick up my language notebook and write 10 random words in my target language(or sometimes naming anything which I can see in my room like table, mirror etc.). Revise grammar and sleep. This really helps because when you see yourself improving each day you don't wanna stop.
Yeah, totally! Whenever I hit a slump I usually try to just take a break and focus on something else for a while. I think I've probably taken more than 5 whole month breaks while studying Korean lol. I feel like it's a very natural thing ^^
2:49 i agree completely, i watch running man, workman, rain's show and many more and i can definitely say they improved my vocab way more than kdramas.
i recently stumbled across your channel and just wanted to thank you for giving me a motivation to get back to learning korean! i passed the topik level 6 last year and while i'm nowhere near fluent i kinda lost my desire to improve since it's harder to see actual progress at that stage compared to a beginner. but seeing your videos and how you're still studying even though you're this fluent has motivated me so much
Thank you for posting practical information, so I could check it right away. I also like the relaxed atmosphere of this video. I look forward to the next part 2!
i started my journey today, we're planning to live in Korea after few years, so I better start learning today lol. Your videos really helped well like HOW TO and WHERE TO START.
I remember I watched this a year ago when I just started learning. And now I'm rewatching and I understand pretty much all of what you said. SOO EXCITING
I also just want to give a tips to people who learn korean language and a kpop stan. This is how i teach myself korean,im an army and i play bts's songs a lot so i usually read and try to understand the meaning of the lyrics. Then when there is a vocab that i didnt understand,i try to translate the words using google(i know sometimes using google translate is not that good).A little funfact about myself im a fast memorizing person and i dont like writing notes because for me its a waste of time so when the songs play i eventually start singing and thats one of the reason i improved my korean.
first of all i'd like to say i love your voice tone omg its so calming anyway, the way you've explained in your videos has given me the courage to take korean off the back burner and finally start studying it thank you so much!!!!
Omg your sharing is so on point and structured TT Really appreciated this video and your cute editing. Will look forward to pt 2! >< Ps: It's night here and I'll try listening to cocomom for my bedtime story ✌️💓
have you ever thought of doing podcasts? your voice in korean is so soothing. I’d def listen if you did. I’ll take your advice thank!! You’re doing an amazing job!!
ohh so this is your second video? wow~ this is actually helpful for me since I've been wanting to continue teaching myself korean. your korean speaking sounds just like a native too! you're doing good
Rhea you are one of the only self taught korean learners that actually make me think its possible to learn on my own. Although I'm struggling to even start. Like how do I even form a sentence. I'm so stuck on the grammar part.
Thank you for sharing all of this information and tips with us! Because of your first video, I decided to really start studying and have been practicing for 30min-1hr every day for about a month and a half now. My question is how do you build up the necessary vocabulary and grammar knowledge to start making use of active input like TH-cam videos, dramas, podcasts etc.? I'm still learning basic grammar structures and the ins and outs of how written Korean is spoken and some days it can feel overwhelming. I worry that I'll never be able to understand more than a sentence at a time and even then will have to record and search up every individual part. Is this something that is worth working on before moving towards more active input, or is it better to just watch and listen even if I understand very little right now (and resist the temptation to try to translate everything)? Thank you again for all of the information and, more importantly the inspiration to keep going!
I think it's better to have some solid foundation of vocab and grammar before starting with active input, but honestly it really just depends on what you feel comfortable with and how you want to pace yourself ^^
Tysm for the tip! It’s just that-- Every time I watch ur video I would always be like “yes! Let’s do this!” And I set up everything.a timetable, a small setup goal and a notebook. Well u see. I watch one of ur video yesterday and I really like it, I start practicing from that morning till night . But then the second day I started to gain laziness @-@!! Then from that day I started to not practicing my Korean learning so every night when I sleep, I keep overthinking, “ why can’t I learn anymore?” “Why is my brain forcing me to not do it?” I haven’t sleep until 2pm most of the time because of this problem of mine, so I wondered. Is it because I have no interest of Korean anymore? Should I start learning a new language? Or should I “Give up”. Things are running tru my mind. I can’t stop thinking about it even on my online class to, so my question to u is: 1)Should I give up and focus on my school? 2)should I learn another language? 3)Or should I keep on doing this? I appreciate if u give me some ideas cuz I really want to sleep it will damage my health problems and my mom is really worried, and I would also be very happy if u have time to give me some tips or ways. 감사 해요! May I point out how well you speak Korean and your pronunciation and flow with this language is fantastic! Well done you! I’m so proud of you and how well you speak korean! I love your videos and they are very well put together for people who want to learn Korean too! Thank you on behalf of everyone who wants to learn Korean ! Have a nice day now 사랑해!!!!!
I learned a lot of vocabulary through kdrama because i have a listening memory, i can't understand 100% without subtitles but i can understand 45-50% now and i can understand some video in korean explaining grammar without subtitles and i'm so happy about that, that's already great. I can't understand korean books yet but i can understand some webtoons specially one webtoon at intermediate level, not too difficult and not too easy and it surprised me i read full in korean and i can understand 90%

I also a self-studying Korean for 9 years now. I haven't take TOPIK test yet because it's quite hard to get a day off from work. As for me, my best output is to make friends with the native. Because it takes me to the really really real conversation with them and it helps and improves my skill a lot.
I love the video and your channel :D You are definitely underrated!! I'm not sure why, but for some reason, your channel just motivates me so much to learn Korean than any other channel. Maybe it's because you actually speak the video in Korean (the other videos I watch are people who are kind of just beginning to learn Korean)? I don't know, but thanks for motivating me!
Thank you for the videos it has given me a lot of insight and ideas on how to improve my learning. I've been studying Korean on and off for a few years now and always felt a little lost , but you helped me a lot.♥
I want you to keep making videos cuz it's really inspiring me to complete my tasks of the korean language classes. thank you for making a helping video 🥰
Ver tus dos videos están regresando mis ganas de aprender Coreano... y mejorar mi inglés. Me gustó mucho lo que dijiste de los dramas y como pueden funcionar mejor los programas "comunes" como las noticias y que no mencionaste (no lo detecté) la música como lo principal para aprender el idioma. Suscrito.
3:45 yeah, I also think that it’s fine to do that since we are encouraged to do that on our native language. In school, when you don’t know a word, you’re encouraged to use context clues to figure it out. So, if you don’t understand a word, you’d look at the sentence above it and the one below it (obviously you’d look at the sentence the word itself was in first but I figured that was obvious but then again this is the internet soo 😅). So if you’re allowed to do that in your native language, then why keep yourself from doing it in your target language? I’m sure there are a few exceptions to this rule because there are over 7 billion people on this earth, but let’s be real here, your target language will not be better than your native one, it’s seen as amazing when your target language even reaches the same level as your native one (even getting close is good). So don’t get rid of native ways of learning because you’ll think they’ll hinder your learning (again, there may be some exceptions to this rule, some people’s schools aren’t the best so they’re taught methods that are horrible to use even for their native language, but this definitely doesn’t apply to the context rule lmao)
@@mapplexxmoon7940 If only we could create a chat room with us Korean learners practicing... Then that wouldn't be awkward if somebody hears us right? Since we're actually talking to someone instead of speaking alone like a psycho😂😅
@@wonderhoech.5734 hey I thought about making a discord server for korean learners (but there would be people from a k-pop fandom as well) ☺️ if you're interested let me know. I didn't created it yet but it might be nice, if I know that many are interested about it so that I can make it and we could motivate each other ! 😊 i was scared to create it because i thought no one would be interested and that it would be just a dead server 🤣 so yeah ~ let me know ! I didn't start to learn korean yet but i need motivation and to take myself together ;-; but I searched alof of things that could help others that i would gladly share 😊
Haha even though I feel like self studying is very very effective, if you have the money to enroll in a course, then that's surely going to be a big boost in how fast you learn the language! Good luck for your lessons, I'm sure it won't be a waste ^^
@@rhea_irlthank you for the reassurance 🥺 I'm mostly taking the lessons to become more confident in using the actual language, so I'm really excited to see the video you're going to make on output! You're so impressive, I'm looking forward to seeing more of you ^^
thank you so much ur both the videos are helping me a lot. i hope i'll be able to understand and learn korean just like u did and also ur videos are toooooooooo informative
you inspired to try to continue my Korean lessons, sometimes bc of work or uni one can push it away but I really miss learning! Hope to see more tips from you, Gracias!
I was practicing everyday for about 3 months and took a break from learning Korean for a few months. I like I wasn't improving, until one day I went back in my notes and noticed I remembered EVERYTHING from when I started. I realized that I did improve, I just wasn't seeing it because the improvement was gradual. Seeing your videos has inspired me a lot, and I had a question for you! My goals are always too broad and hard to achieve, so I tend to get frustrated at my progress easily. Do you have any short term goals that you can share that may have worked for you? For example: memorize 100 vocabulary words by next week or learn how to use past tense by next week. 배우고 싶어요! 감사합니다!
Thanks to you first i started learning the Alphabets of korean after that i thought i countries never learn by only knowing the Alphabets then i skip my learning but after watching Your vidoes i got confidence that i also can learn korean and this time i am very determine thank you so much for this video❤️
Hi. I hope you are doing well and you are healthy. I have just begun my Hangul journey. But I am overwhelmed about the pronounciation and intonation of Hangul. Can you please share how you taught yourself to speak and listen Hangul. 🙏🙏🥺🥺🥺🥺
Please keep up the good work! Really agree with you that watching shows can help with Korean learning a lot. In my case Runningman did most of the work and because they use some of their sentence repetitively, you can learn and master them as you continuously watching in long run. And also, I’d really like to try reading the Korean books too but because of the language difference, I’m worried that I might accidentally purchase a boring book. Have you read any interesting Korean novel before? Please recommend some hahaha
I really wait for another contents. You motivated me a lot and make me wanna learn more and more, also gain more confidence so i can talk as fluent as you Thank you for sharing
Loved the video! from where did you purchased those books?
I got them from an online store called hanbooks^^ I'll add a link to the site in the description as well

You are definitely underrated!!
I'm not sure why, but for some reason, your channel just motivates me so much to learn Korean than any other channel. Maybe it's because you actually speak the video in Korean (the other videos I watch are people who are kind of just beginning to learn Korean)? I don't know, but thanks for motivating me!
waaa your voice makes me more excited to learn korean
I wanted your video to have Portuguese subtitles, I'm from Brazil and watching your videos I feel more inspired to learn Korean. 🇧🇷💕
한국어 진짜 잘하시네요. 한국어 공부할 시간이 요즘 없어서 말하기 연습도 안 하고 나빠지고 있어요. 그래서 시간 관리에 대해 영상 만들 수 있나요?
감사합니다!! 나중에 꼭 만들어 볼게요 (◍•ᴗ•◍)
I just start learn Korean by my own.. day 2. So this channel is going to be an inspiration.
Yaaayyy finalllyyyy!! 🥰❤️❤️
you have been motivating me sooo much, I'm really grateful already, thank you so much for your content, keep it up 💛 (and pleeease, drop the part 2)
정말 감사합니다! This was really useful and I have downloaded all the apps you've recommended! Am looking forwards to more of your videos
I love listening to your voice, its very calm,, you sound like sana of twice.
Ver tus dos videos están regresando mis ganas de aprender Coreano... y mejorar mi inglés.
Me gustó mucho lo que dijiste de los dramas y como pueden funcionar mejor los programas "comunes" como las noticias y que no mencionaste (no lo detecté) la música como lo principal para aprender el idioma.

How did you learn to talk? I think this is one of my biggest set backs - I don't have the confidence to talk and make mistakes. 🥺
Ikr! Every time I would lock my room door to make sure no one would hear me and awkwardly speak it out, it’s so stupid to me thought-
@@mapplexxmoon7940 If only we could create a chat room with us Korean learners practicing... Then that wouldn't be awkward if somebody hears us right? Since we're actually talking to someone instead of speaking alone like a psycho😂😅
@@wonderhoech.5734 lol yeah
@@wonderhoech.5734 hey I thought about making a discord server for korean learners (but there would be people from a k-pop fandom as well) ☺️ if you're interested let me know. I didn't created it yet but it might be nice, if I know that many are interested about it so that I can make it and we could motivate each other ! 😊 i was scared to create it because i thought no one would be interested and that it would be just a dead server 🤣 so yeah ~ let me know ! I didn't start to learn korean yet but i need motivation and to take myself together ;-; but I searched alof of things that could help others that i would gladly share 😊
@@apaiiyui8488 oh yeah, please let me know if you created it already. I'm actually a kpop fan too hahaha, please let me in!
Hospital playlist is such a good K-drama😩
Can you also mention what types of productivity apps you use. For writing, or for creating to-do lists, deadlines, etc. Also thank you for this video

와 목소리 미쳤다 진짜
한국어 뿐만 아니라 내가 다른 언어 배우는데도 꽤 도움되겠지..?
Oopsie Im starting my first Korean lessons next week :-) hopefully I won't be wasting my money

Hii! I'm a total beginner and I really really find your videos helpful! I hope you post soon, I really want to learn from you♡
Thank you for this video! I’ve only just started learning Korean and I’m sure you’re videos are gonna help me a ton
배우고 싶어요! 감사합니다!
좋아요오~~ 잘보구갑니다~
감사합니당 !!
Your voice is pure asmr yo 😮
I agree with the "you shouldn't rush to learn it" but like I get really sad when I don't learn things super fast, but I'm trying :)
your videos are so cool always looking forward to more
Love it!!
Uwu...your voice is soo sweet ^^
왜인지는 모르겠지만 이 영상이 너무 포근하고 예뻐서 새로운 차원의 미학인 것 같아요🥺😍 그건 그렇고 나도 디저트의 미학이 있는데, 보실래요?🍮
Love your videos it motivates me to study korea
Please make more videos 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
amazing. waiting for your output video! ^^
Heyyy this is reallly helpful please keep going. Glad I found you❤
I love your channel, gonna wait for more vids hehe
Please keep up the good work! Really agree with you that watching shows can help with Korean learning a lot. In my case Runningman did most of the work and because they use some of their sentence repetitively, you can learn and master them as you continuously watching in long run. And also, I’d really like to try reading the Korean books too but because of the language difference, I’m worried that I might accidentally purchase a boring book. Have you read any interesting Korean novel before? Please recommend some hahaha
슬기로운 읫사생활 ♥
I learn a lot of my Korean vocab by watching kpop MV Behind The Scenes videos so if you're mainly interested in learning words, maybe try that
This was really beneficial
I really wait for another contents. You motivated me a lot and make me wanna learn more and more, also gain more confidence so i can talk as fluent as you
Thank you for sharing
I love novels especially the ones without any picture i like creating my own world in my mind , gives me a feeling of a director 😅😅
