      These methods you mentioned are normal way, However, there is a better way is using a plugin elimiating its face and point of complex models.

    After buying a $3600 MacBook Pro, with the top processor, and 32GB RAM, I thought I’d be able to throw anything Sketchup related at it with no lag, and boy was I wrong. One file I made just lags like crazy. Can’t wait to try these tips

    I think another way to speed up high detailed Models or components is to hide or put their lines into 00_abc(tag's name) then toggle it off. I usually do this so i will stil be able to keep the appearance of those components while improving the performance. After that, I'm gonna put the adjusted component to my library for later use without doing that again.
    By the way, your video is very helpful! I did watch every tutorials!
    Thank you very much!!!

    Very good and simple tips - Thanks!
    In your hints-series could be added to activate the simpler shadermode style instead of the texturedmode while working. If you then assign these settings to a scene, you have almost done everything right ;-)
    As long as I'm creating a new model, I always run 2 "start working scenes": My modeling scene I call "Worx", which contains roughly your recommended settings, and the second one I simply call "All", which shows the scene in roughly the later on intended high depth quality.
    Additionally, my own model template already has scene transitions disabled. Especially with large and complex models the scene transitions can be so annoying...

    I just decided to try the 2023 version but it was incredibly laggy with one of larger projects, like 4 FPS and really high CPU usage compared to the older versions I have. Turns out that Fredo Ghost was the culprit, for whatever reason it's not playing nice with the 2023 version(not sure about 2021 or 2022). Just removed it from the tool bar and it stopped lagging. I copied my plugins from one install to the other before I bothered using it, took me a little while to figure out that it was an extension causing the issue.

    Great tip as well you can lower your texture quality as adding textures can really start increasing your file size.

    This is why Sketchup needs to be updated with multicore support and gpu acceleration. My larger models start to really bog down and these tips can only go so far.

      As far as someone explained to me - it is due to limitation of Ruby language that Sketchup is coded with.
      This video literally made my day. My CPU usage dropped down from 70-99% on the project I work at right now to 30-50%. That made it stop lagging almost completely.
      Its subjective of course, since every ones perseption of "lag" is different but nonetheless.
      In case some one would wonder what kind of machine I'm working at - its M1 MacBook Air.
      Also I have it installed on 3 other PCs: i7 7700k. Asus laptop with i7 (don't remember exact model, but I belive its n551 with i7 4710q or 6700HQ or 4700HQ) and iMac 2020 with 6core i5 10600 3.3GHz with turbo mode on 4.8 Ghz) I already know this would make a huge difference while working on iMac and Asus laptop.
      Best Wishes to the author of this video! 🍀 (Sorry I didn't get your name, maby you introduced yourself but I skipped this part of the video since, you know, time is money ^_^)

      forums.sketchup.com/t/cpus-and-multithreading/88109 - Multithreading isn't going to be a thing any time soon for modeling. This is not a SketchUp thing, but a thing with 3D modeling programs in general. Rendering can be multithreaded, but modeling is a different thing entirely.

    Would anyone know why only a few tools are acting slow… like for instance my tape measure and move tools are super laggy, but I can orbit and move around my model just fine?

    • @MinhBosh147
      @MinhBosh147 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the cause is the very high polygons model inside your sence. To me, for example, my bed model has too many polygons and i have to put all the blanket, pillows, v.v except bed frame (they are still in the "Bed" group) to the tag that is going to be turn off while modeling. This helps my poor laptop perfoming better on heavy scenes. Give it a try and tell me if it helps!

    • @codywilliamson4501
      @codywilliamson4501 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MinhBosh147 yeah I don’t think it’s a polygon issue, the file size is still pretty small. The model runs fine it’s just a few select tools that don’t run at the same speed as all the others

    • @Thesketchupessentials

      Probably because you've got a bunch of heavy geometry in your model...
