Great series - super helpful. Question: How do you create "inset" or scalable "close up" views of detail you've drawn in a house plan? For example, I would typically include close up views of header/post connection hardware on the same page as the framing floor plan or cross section. Another example using a site plan, I might want to have the 1/8" scale big view as well as a 1/2" scale close up of a site plan detail such as a transformer location. The goal is not to re-draw the detail but to simply take what is already drawn, zoom in on it, create a view/window and add it to a page in layout. (and set the printed scale appropriately for the detail separate from the other images on the layout page). I hope what I'm asking makes sense. Thanks.
Hi! You showed layers in Layout, but I wondering, have you done them manually? My Sketchup Layers are not exported to Layout and I dont understand why..
Your videos are amazing - thank you so much. You have a great way of explaining things and a soothing voice!! These are the best SketchUp tutorials out there. Keep up the great work. :)
thanks!i have found myself using layout more than revit for smaller clients. It becomes a hastle when you have to produce renderings. So it better to stick with sketchup all the way and still be able to provide some decent plans or sections
Great videos man! When doing a section cut how do you prevent it from cutting a staircase in half? I've tried hiding the the staircase layer/tag and also locking it. Once its out of frame and I make the cut and add the staircase back into view but its cut in half. This is making it so I cant see the full staircase in LayOut. Thanks!!
Can you please PLEASE make a tutorial on tables in layout. Legends, schedules and tables. I saw the tute you made on doors and windows schedule but I need help making an electrical and lighting schedule using the symbol used in SketchUp. I cannot find a tutorial on just tables anywhere. A breakdown of everything tables, merging cells, editing, inserting symbols, everything. PLEASE!!
Hi Justin, Thanks for the amazing video! I transferred my SketchUp to layout but unfortunately the quality of the drawing isn't great. Could you help me?
I noticed you still have the menus where you have to scroll up and down to get to the different menus. I find that really frustrating and for some time now you can change those to tabbed views instead like a browser. I find it a much better experience and thought it might make a good tutorial on how to do it.
Thanks so much for the info, also don't know who needs this but, I want to spread good news, jesus christ loves you and gave his life on the cross so we could live and have a relationship with god. All we have to do is recognize our sins and ask for forgiveness and believe in jesus christ his son.
I just got the SketchUp Pro free trial. Are you using Pro or something else? You have a lot of extra tools and icons that I don't have. And is layout a different program? Or is that software inside of Sketchup? Thanks! this is my first day in sketch up and I'm overwhelmed!
I saw the floor already layout. I don't know how you got there. is it the you started in SketchUp and transferred the work to layout? Please help me I'm a beginner
Hi, I love this but how is the inside of your walls and objects black? Did you paint it or is there a way to change the setting to make the inside face always black?
In the style settings, there's an option for section fill - it basically fills in the areas where the section plane intersects with the model with a dark color
Depends - you could watch it all the way through or do it a bit at a time - if you just mean how many hours of video are in the course, it's something like 14 or 15
I need a dwg file with full building size (door size, window size, wall size) and plan. Which I can download for free. Help me by telling me the names of some of these websites. Please.
Hi! I have question, can I open the layout file in other laptop/computer separated from sketchup-insert-file origin? Is it works or the layout viewports will be unwritten/broken? anyone please answer, thanks!
Help needed in SU - layout 2020 I get the text ‘no model selected’. All I have done in SketchUp the icons are greyed out. This didn’t happen in SU2019. The scenes are saved as they used to be but only on part appears in LO. Frustrating, why have they changed a simple but working function.. fixing things that are broken.. help
This isn't a change that was made in Layout 2020...I don't know what's happened, but as far as I know, the features you're mentioning didn't really have any major changes in this version
Hi, another great video! Although Send to Layout doesn't work, it only opens up a blank screen. I've tried both 20Pro and 21Pro, uninstalling and reinstalling as admin, same issue. Really infuriating. Any suggestions please as I've wasted days trying to sort this out. Cheers
@@Thesketchupessentials thanks for your response, it's really appreciated. I managed to work out what the problem was but unsure why. The SketchUp file was saved as a .skb changing this to .skp prevented this issue. Why would the file be saved as .skb?
Do you have any idea how I can get scale from sketchup model into imported layout of it? The dimensions measured on layout are accurate for it's object but whenever I want to draw something new on it in layout the dimensions are different.
Nah I'm good - If people don't want to learn SketchUp from me because I'm wearing a hat, they're welcome to go elsewhere. Side note - I wear the hat when I present in person as well :)

how would you setup your model if you want to dimension to framing instead of finish?
Just click somewhere else when setting your dimensions?
what version of SketchUp are you using?

Do the dimensions added in sketchup import to layout and are they editable as if added in layout?
They'd show up, but generally I recommend adding dimensions in Layout as those are more customizable. The ones from SketchUp are pretty limited
