Which laptop would you recommend for a computer engineer for $1000?

You seem pretty knowledgable, I was wondering what might've caused my motherboard to crack. I believe it could be because of the stiffness of the hinges or rapid heat change. Lmk what you think!
It could be for any number of reasons such as it being a faulty unit. Your best bet is to contact Dell support.
Can the ports on either side charge the laptop?? Suppose my power source point is on the right side, does the charger has to go all the way across the laptop to plug into the port on the left side??
Yes all ports on either side charge it.
Does work with pen?
Supposed to have connectivity issues with WiFi due to the killer WiFi card. Can you confirm? It’s supposed to disconnect momentarily and throttle speeds.
Still using it, and it runs amazing, no issues.
Which laptop would you recommend for an MBA student in Canada? The XPS 13 or the MacBook Pro 13? Or would you recommend some other laptop?

If you're doing an MBA then it sounds like you need a low spec machine, the MacBook Air should do fine but so would the lowest spec of the XPS 13.
