A lazy, irresponsible young clerk (Sir Tom Courtenay) in provincial Northern England lives in his own fantasy world and makes emotionally immature decisions as he alienates friends and family.
In this scene, Billy Fisher deals with his family the same way he deals with all his issues: lies and daydreams. Scene stars Tom Courtenay, Mona Washbourne, and Wilfred Pickles.

That was the real, genuine British spirit.
An absolutely wonderful comedy series.
Brilliant scrips, and brilliant actors/actresses.
I agree. The dialogue, narrative, script....the whole film is just right. Everyone is at their best in "Billy Liar."
A classic. I love the bit with the sauce bottle. It's clear he doesn't understand that they don't understand what he means by "my material".
How films were made. Brilliant.
Where, may I ask, is the full film? Is it on TH-cam at all?
I know a few of him at work. Usually labourers who are qualified in everything but labouring on site 😂
This film really stayed with me, had a lot to say.
Billy Liar is a joy to watch. Some other films of this so called 'genre' aren't so 'comfortable' a view .
Billy.
Why purposely over complicate life more than it already is ???
