O del mio amato ben perduto incanto! Lungi e dagli occhi miei chi m'era gloria e vanto!
I think You Tube should add a category of Like, Love, and well, if they insist, dislike. Margaret is angelic, and very expressive, in contrast to len evans' comment. Indeed, as the voice matures it will gain in power and dramatic richness. Beautiful!
I like that comment someone made that she should get a part in a Jane Austen picture; She has that kind of personna.A classic, pure style about her.A good look, beautiful voice-gifted and talented. You want her to develop into one of the worlds best.Good work,Margaret!!
Just gorgeous! I've always LOVED this song, and I think it is so much more effective with a pure tone, which lets the beauty of the melody sing through. The sweetness and purity of your tone is deeply moving. I agree with the poster who suggested singing J.S. Bach -- now that would be something. Congratulations!
Absolutely lovely. Really wonderful! If I might make a suggestion. Perhaps looking over the translation again. This song is about the pains of love lost. For example the last line: "Mi par cosi la vita vana cosa senza il mio ben" means "life thus seems to me a futile thing without my beloved." Excruciating! Just a thought :) but again! You have a LOVELY voice! Keep goin!
@performingfreak8: Words like "mio" and "tuo" are actually two-syllable words, wth the stress placed on the first vowel, so it is correct to emphasize the "i" in "mio." I was taught the other way for a while as well, but in spoken Italian one never goes straight to the "o," so it makes no sense to do it in sung Italian.
performingfreak8, you are so wrong about "mio." It's MI-o and LU-i. There are i's that are used more like y's and that are very quick but not all i's do that. And people need to stop trying to correct her Italian--she took Italian Diction with the Pfrim so she knows what's up in that regard. Beautiful job, Maggie. I just searched this song because it's so beautiful and I wanted to listen to it, and to my surprise I find this video. What a treat!
Hi again, Gorgeous singing, heavenly and angelic! Thank you for posting, so beautiful. May I suggest, stanze is pronounced with a TS stant-se. Check the IPA. You can buy the IPA in book form from Leyerle Publications, for Opera check Nico Castel series, all operas translated with IPA. Or for single songs, check IPA sourse. A fine point, would be to distinguish your closed and open e vowels. E.g. mio ben, is open. Bravissima!!!
@performingfreak8 Because even in the score they allow changes between masculine and feminine lei -- her lui -- him :) It'd be odd, for that time period at least (unless if she were in a pants role), if she was speaking of her female lover.
Very beautiful, The only criticism I have is I wish you had more facial expressions. The talent in your voice is great but it would be 10 times more meaningful and beautiful to add the passion into the song, to show the reason Donaudy wrote this song. You're missing someone, someone that you really and truly love. Whether it's a friend, family member, or lover, that's the fun part you get to decide and make it your own story. :]
Frumoasa femeie si vocea e dragalasa, dar parca nu e potrivita pentru romanta lui Donaudy.Dintre vocile feminine o prefer pe Rosa Ponselle, dar cel mai bun e Petre Munteanu.
Very clear text and pronunciation! Currently learning this song, and this helps me a lot. Thank you!
this has helped me learn this song! every time i hear her sing it i wanna practice! thank you so much for posting this! she has a beautiful voice!
What a young, beautiful sounding voice. I love it!
O del mio amato ben perduto incanto!
Lungi e dagli occhi miei
chi m'era gloria e vanto!
Or per le mute stanze
sempre la(lo) cerco e chiamo
con pieno il cor di speranze...
Ma cerco invan, chiamo invan!
E il pianger m'e si caro,
che di pianto sol nutro il cor.
Mi sembra, senza lei(lui), triste ogni loco.
Notte mi sembra il giorno,
mi sembra gelo il foco.
Se pur talvolta spero
di darmi ad altra cura,
sol mi tormenta un pensiero:
ma, senza lei(lui), che faro?
Mi par cosi la vita
vana cosa senza il mio ben.

Yes! I Was thinking the same thing... You Look Just Like Julia Stiles! Beautiful Job, by the way! such a lovely voice!
Only Tulane University, along with Margaret Windler, and a Yamaha Piano can make such Beautiful music!

This girl should be playing as Juliet in Shakespeare's movie

Bravissima!!!
노래도 좋고 음색도 좋은데 이 노래는 정말 그리움 슬픔 애절함을 나타내는 음악인데 이것만 표정으로 잘 나타내줬으면 좋았을꺼라
생각이든다
@performingfreak8 She's singing "lui" because she's a girl singing about a guy, not a guy singing about a girl.
Perfect!
Are you from italy?Wow~Beautiful!
Anyone else think the talented Ms. Windler looks remarkably like actress Julia Stiles of Bourne Ultimatum fame?
@performingfreak8 Because even in the score they allow changes between masculine and feminine lei -- her lui -- him :) It'd be odd, for that time period at least (unless if she were in a pants role), if she was speaking of her female lover.
Agreed
@candyXkyo Ab major I suppose...

真美
What teacher allowed her to sing this song so fast...
Frumoasa femeie si vocea e dragalasa, dar parca nu e potrivita pentru romanta lui Donaudy.Dintre vocile feminine o prefer pe Rosa Ponselle, dar cel mai bun e Petre Munteanu.
Beautiful. But where's the passion?
linda voz pero aun le falta trabajarla !!!
