Samuel Arthur After Bachs death, they forgot him long time too. Don't forget this please. Bach died on July 28, 1750. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's re-performance of the St. Matthew Passion on March 11, 1829 in the Berlin Singakademie is an initial spark for the rediscovery of Johann Sebastian Bach's musical history.
actually Bach was a very religious man. so it is not "far away from any religion" but directly inspired by his Lutheran Christian religion. a lot of his works are intended for the divine service of the Lutheran Church. (this one included.)

I'm an atheist but I imagine that the protestant God, after the trap he set, would be much more convinced of Peter's beg if it's trembling, profoundly human.
A bit too fast, but an excellent rendition anyway.
Maxime Le Heiget
The other slow ones make sleep. The tempo is kinda in the Goldilock's zone.
Maxime Le Heiget. Listen to Lorraine Hunt Lieberson
Bach definitely had a direct line to a higher power.
Abundance he had god's phone number
J.S. Bach IS the higher power !
Gerard - I don't think Emmanuel was being sacrilegious.
There's a saying in Germany that Bachs Music is the fifth gospel.
Johann Sebastian Bach: the fifth evangelist. Danke shöen.
Bach is the most marvelous composer ever in all world...
JA
If a picture is worth a thousand words, this music is worth a thousand pictures. I can see huge drops of tears falling on the dirt by Peter’s feet.
because 250 years from now, no one will remember today's musician. God bless you Johann Sebastian Bach
Samuel Arthur After Bachs death, they forgot him long time too. Don't forget this please. Bach died on July 28, 1750. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's re-performance of the St. Matthew Passion on March 11, 1829 in the Berlin Singakademie is an initial spark for the rediscovery of Johann Sebastian Bach's musical history.
if we are listening to this in 2018 clearly he wasn't forgotten.
thankyou so much for that information.

250 years? try 250 days lol
The most beautiful voice i ever heard in this peace of music.......
that song brings tears to my eyes every time, such a moving expression of sorrow.
Hearing Bach is confirming the real existence of divinity, far away from any religion.
So beautifully worded. I completely agree. His music is truly sacred and reaches a part of my heart & soul that nothing else can.
actually Bach was a very religious man.
so it is not "far away from any religion" but directly inspired by his Lutheran Christian religion.
a lot of his works are intended for the divine service of the Lutheran Church. (this one included.)
Great example of divine intervention indeed..
I am back again... for the third year in a row... who would have thought back in 2019 that listening to the yearly Eastern live performance of Matthäuspassion in the church might be the least possible thing to wish for... Thank God for Delphine Galou... I am not surprised this clip have 5,5 million views... I am personally responsible for quite a few of them :-D
I totally agree with you. Delphine Galou's interpretation is superb.

God, through this piece of music I can find peace, perfection and pleasure.
Que de beauté ! Musique, voix, cantatrice, orchestre.

Quelle voix .... émouvant
This is the best performance I have ever seen or listened to, both the orchestra and particularly the solo violin, but it is the singer who nailed it - she makes it perfect by by her perfect singing. I absolutely love it, and I wish when I am dying they would do this once again for me.
There is no need for a heaven when there is the St Mathew Passion by Bach :)
This singer has a lovely pure timbre to her voice which is generally only found in counter-tenors in my opinion.
Excellent tempo too!
I suspect Bach would not agree with you. He did write religious music because he believed in what it said, after all.
Anthony McCarthy right
I agree there's no need for god! we have Bach and ourselves! not all of us though!
Great tempo and that is beautiful violin too. I would give just about anything to hear her sing Christ lag in Todesbanden.
*****
There is the music of Bach, therefore there was Bach.
So gelungen! Danke

How warmly the orchestra and singer weave together. How deeply felt.
Divine singing and solo violin - JSB would be proud..
The violin playing and of course the singing are both superb!
I casually look up Erbame dich on TH-cam as I feel like listening to it whilst fixing my breakfast. Andreas Scholl? Nah. I feel like something different. I choose another, more or less at random. The intro starts. Good. Then she starts singing. My head spins round. "What?!' And I stand there open-mouthed, transfixed at the beauty of her voice.
Thank for a little story well told
This is by far the best performance of Erbahrme dich. A heartfelt prayer, this is sung from the heart 💓
A gift from the heavens to earthly ears😊
Geliebte Seele, Gott hat Dich geküsst...
Why are people obsessed with proclaiming what they do or don’t believe in. Just enjoy the utter beauty of Bach. We won the lottery of life and all its stunning beauty. Just enjoy while you can!
Barber adagio
Good answer !! We can also listen Matthaus passion just for the beauty of the melody. "Haupt voll Blut und Wunden", also in this passion, is above everything, as well as this piece, without referring to the famous unknown "X" ...
Perhaps it conjures their deep rooted faith and makes them them think about "what is god?"
the tempo is perfect, so mournful, like crying...
Merci

Such a heart wrenching pain. In these precise five minutes and fiftyseven seconds we have the most overwhelming desperation man can feel. Tonight I was feeling so down I decided that I had to listen to this piece to express my pain. Needless to say, voiceless screams came out of my mouth, the sweetest tears out of my eyes. I never enjoyed suffering this much. Art has the power to give sense to humans' sorrow by mutating it into something so beautiful, it destroys you. But you somehow manage to enjoy it so much you immediately want to repeat the experience. Thank you, Bach.
@Nicoló Anzivino - Wow your comment was so powerful; it brought a tear to mine own eyes. I hope your suffering does not continue to this day. But it is good that you can take some refuge in the power of Bach’s music.
@@emeegeeehen Thank you for your kind words. Let's all hope to find a moment of bliss and peace in this breath taking work of art.

magnifique Delphine Galou. Un régal.

No matter how many times I listen to this exceptional aria. Everything is better than the previous one.
This aria hits so much more when you really feel regret for something you've done, that's when you simply sense god touching you.
The emotional climax of St Matthew's Passion.

Such refreshing graceful and enjoyable Aria and the strings. Matthäuspassion is a Sublime religious work.

Absolutely fabulous quality of singing by Mme Galou. Clearly the 21st Century equivalent of Julia Hamari, but with a depth and French elegance and warmth that counters and complements the Teutonic Protestant sincerity of Richter's work perfectly. Thank you for this joy.
"Erbarme dich, mein Gott!" sings Delphine Galou, "schaue hier!" Never has this prayer felt stronger then these days when the Ucrainian people suffer so much.
Yes 👍 oo

Bach is the supremely universal artist. I do sympathise with the feelings expressed by the Muslim listener. I am a Hindu and I too hear the voice of God in his music. The voice of beauty and reason in this threatened world!
I found this video by accident while searching for another song. What beautiful singing by Delphine Galou. How much do we need God's mercy!
Pure perfection! Her contralto is stunning!

oh yes
Galou has such a expressive raw voice it shakes my soul to its foundations and leaves me questioning my very sanity. I beg for life on my knees as I'm overwhelmed by the strength and power of her singing. My God my God why hast thou forsaken me? But to die to the sound of this voice is more than anyone could ask for.
Her voice is so beautiful, all of the instrumentalists play exceptionally brilliant & the composer has an elegant style!
The Music of J.S. Bach has always been SO DYNAMIC, MULTI-LAYERED, COMPLEX and BEAUTIFUL at the same time!
