Spamming shots of any kind is what sets him off into the tail attacks, so take it slow and methodically while staying underneath him. YOOOO I literally JUST got finished 100%ing Zero Mission with all 8 endings yesterday, amazing fucking timing for this Edit: just because I just got to the part where you mentioned the game being hard to 100%… yeah, I agree. The shinespark puzzles can get pretty brutal and the Hard mode endings (100% under 2 hours and the 15% run) are some of the absolute most difficult challenges I’ve overcome in a video game, but damn if it wasn’t the most satisfying experience mastering this game top to bottom. I’ve beaten it 10 times now, and I’m still raring to go back in for more. Surprisingly, by my last 100% playthrough (100% Hard Mode under 2 hours), I was able to pull off almost every single shinespark puzzle on the first attempt and my route had become so optimized that I beat the game in 1:42:18, shaving off 20 entire minutes from my failed 100% Hard Mode run (I barely missed it, getting 2:02:25). I’ve never had this much fun speedrunning a game before and it is absolutely amazing to me just how much replay value this game has with its plethora of sequence breaks and ways to abuse its systems. Bomb jumping, both vertically and diagonally are pretty damn easy to pull off, and by the end I even had horizontal bomb jumping down okay (even if I never really had to use it for much). My favorite moments were when I got neck deep into absolutely sequence breaking the fuck out of the game that I was trapped deep in Ridley’s Lair and I didn’t have the necessary items to get out, so I had to abuse Bomb jumping and wall jumping (which I didn’t even KNOW was in the game until I was trying to get out of a shaft and muscle memory from Super Metroid kicked in and I figured it out LOL) to get my way back out of there. This game has left such an incredible impression on me, it meshes perfectly with what I look for in a video game and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever truly forget the 100% route now. Edit: huh. I’m surprised you didn’t really like the Zero Suit segment all that much. It’s probably my favorite part of the game. I love how it does the “Samus loses all her abilities” shtick but in the middle of the game rather than just at the beginning, and running for dear life from the Space Pirates is so exhilarating. By my last couple playthroughs I had the entire segment down like the back of my hand but even then I was *still* finding new shortcuts through the maze of Chozodia and the Mother Ship. Oh, and doing this segment on a 15% Hard Mode run where I had literally 1 full energy tank max? Such a satisfying challenge to overcome.
Wonderful video; I feel you covered the scope of the game's themes really well, on top of giving the feel of the gameplay. The coverage of the manga was really appreciated, I'm long overdue to revisit it as an adult! Just to clarify around 51:30, the scene in Other M isn't a callback to PTSD, it's a panic attack related to the events of that game that Ridley happens to trigger. Samus is -supposed- to be reacting differently to him than she normally would. The English version rewrote her struggle to be more focused on pleasing Adam, whereas in Japanese she's got a whole arc about repressing her feelings and trauma going on. I really think you'd get a lot from checking out the fansub
Just want to let you know. I did not leave your high five hangin during the mid video break✋🏻. As someone who played the original back in the 80's. I will say the quality of life improvements in Zero mission make it hard to go back to the original. I do think the original dose have it's place among retro nerds and I think there are even new gamers who might enjoy it. It really comes down to personal preference. Great vid btw. I greatly enjoy your content.👍🏻💚
i played Zero Mission so many times in a time where i had no internet for like two months (i can't recall why), it was my first Metroid and i still love it to this day
The Zero Mission tie in manga is something I really want to read because that moment is so amazingly dark, and it makes Ridley out to be a character I actually cared about killing every time he showed up. Still one of my favorite dragons tho
Lovely video. I adored this game. Still more into Fusion but when I played it the zero suit part was a complete surprise and as someone who never played the original, zero mission was a gem.
Man, i had no idea how deep those comics go. Hope there'll be a game about this part of Samus' story at some point. That could be the most emotional stuff ever told in this series
I adore the Zero Suit segment honestly. It makes me wish they would flesh out her moveset for a full playthrough where you're extremely vulnerable and have to take alternate paths since you can't blow holes in the wall to progress
I rechecked the release date of this video when you made the (2nd) HellDivers joke and wondered how long you'd been working on this. The effort and time spent is appreciated.
OH MY GOD, i never knew that it was actually a sequence break route when i took the shortcut in Norfair to go to Ridley's. I was lost and found that path by accident on my first playthrough and thought it was the intended way
Zero Mission was my very first 'real' Metroid game years and years back and it hooked me hard. I can't not do a few playthroughs during the year, especially randomizers. My brain putting the bits together to realize that I could grab the super missiles at the 32:00 mark is what really sealed it for me and turned me into a fan. But for that super missile tank, did no one tell Trav that that floor can be bombed to make the shine spark easier?
Dude, I absolutely love the theme for Kraid's Lair in the NES original. I have the small mini CD Scrinton Discs released with the score on it. I have to imagine Hip Tanaka was listening to classic organ music when he wrote it.
No jokes here just. Beautiful video man. I have a deep adoration for the Metroid series as a whole (second favorite series) and this was a fantastic love letter to it. And I'd say OG Metroid is fine to return to....... When nothing else is available.

By my last couple playthroughs I had the entire segment down like the back of my hand but even then I was *still* finding new shortcuts through the maze of Chozodia and the Mother Ship. Oh, and doing this segment on a 15% Hard Mode run where I had literally 1 full energy tank max? Such a satisfying challenge to overcome.
loving the outtakes you kept in
Wonderful video; I feel you covered the scope of the game's themes really well, on top of giving the feel of the gameplay.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Trav: it's freaking hot this time of the year
Also Trav: *sleeps under a monstrous blanket*
Nice to see you upload Trav. The bit with Samus's past and the manga was really interesting. She's such a mysterious character.
i played Zero Mission so many times in a time where i had no internet for like two months (i can't recall why), it was my first Metroid and i still love it to this day
The Zero Mission tie in manga is something I really want to read because that moment is so amazingly dark, and it makes Ridley out to be a character I actually cared about killing every time he showed up. Still one of my favorite dragons tho
Aw hell yeah I've been waiting for this!
Lovely video. I adored this game. Still more into Fusion but when I played it the zero suit part was a complete surprise and as someone who never played the original, zero mission was a gem.
Man, i had no idea how deep those comics go. Hope there'll be a game about this part of Samus' story at some point. That could be the most emotional stuff ever told in this series
the start was amazing
Zero Mission my beloved.
I love the fact that the reason that gave you the extra push you needed for this was Metroid Prime 4 news dropping.
Man, I started the series with Fusion, but Zero Mission turned me into a Metroid fan for life.
33:00 Dude the Popcorn felt like a callout because I already wanted some when you said it. Thank you for telling me to fulfill my dreams.
Really good some of your best work yet Mr. Guy❤
It's good to have you back Trav Guy
I adore the Zero Suit segment honestly. It makes me wish they would flesh out her moveset for a full playthrough where you're extremely vulnerable and have to take alternate paths since you can't blow holes in the wall to progress
I was literally just binging the Metroid playlist like last night
For the 7th time
At 1:21 AM
I absolutely adore this channel, been watching for a few years now!!
I rechecked the release date of this video when you made the (2nd) HellDivers joke and wondered how long you'd been working on this. The effort and time spent is appreciated.
Huh, y'know? I think this is actually the first of your Metroid reviews that I've watched on release day 😅
Glad to be here though!
38:20 This escape theme is also in Prime 2
New Trav Guy metroid video!!! hell yeah!!!
Holy shit John Trav guy
Trav guy you're being added to the people i rewatch when nothing hits
Please do not resist
My 3rd favorite Metroid, jut behind Super and Prime. Excellent video, Prime 2 next?
At 56:36 I read it wrong, and initially thought it said "You finally got your power suit."
I just finished the game for the first time and wanted to watch some reviews of it and I loved your video, thanks for creating it!
1:04:37 real ones know that this ship becomes part of Maridia
OH MY GOD, i never knew that it was actually a sequence break route when i took the shortcut in Norfair to go to Ridley's. I was lost and found that path by accident on my first playthrough and thought it was the intended way
Been a Metroid fan since the original released. All of your hard work paid off, because this was a great video. Thank you
Zero Mission was my very first 'real' Metroid game years and years back and it hooked me hard.
1:03:00 Nice reference to the code in NEStroid!
2 and a half years of Wait has finally paid off (in terms of the 2D games, not Prime)
Dude, I absolutely love the theme for Kraid's Lair in the NES original. I have the small mini CD Scrinton Discs released with the score on it. I have to imagine Hip Tanaka was listening to classic organ music when he wrote it.
Bro It feels like I've been waiting YEARS for this and it's been well worth the wait.
I love that Zero suit stealth section !
I don't love that Zero Suit Samus became the new standard armorless design.
No jokes here just. Beautiful video man. I have a deep adoration for the Metroid series as a whole (second favorite series) and this was a fantastic love letter to it. And I'd say OG Metroid is fine to return to....... When nothing else is available.
Im really liking the drunk style of video editing
These videos are so inspirational. I love them thanks for all of your hard work
