Al Murray actually started out as a sound effects comic. He can do all sorts of noises and they are amazing. See if you can find a clip. It was pre pub landlord.
Al Murray is a very well educated person with two honorary degrees and a degree in Modern History from Oxford University, this is probably why you feel you learn things from him even though it is comedy a lot of his jokes are actually based around fact.
Not only is he extremely funny and clever, his historic knowledge is incredible, and he can tell a story and keep you literally hanging on without wanting to so much as whisper.
He's just explained how crazy the moon landing story is... Michael Collins the GOAT get away driver!!

Al is brilliant. You're seeing him here as his stock character: the Pub Landlord. A boorish, insensitive, jingoistic, beer-swilling caricature which he somehow makes repellent and sympathetic at the same time. And hilarious, of course. A genius creation which, having skewered the English, is free to launch himself at anybody else - and bring their pretensions down alongside our own. Not that he's ever genuinely cruel about anybody, (f'ing Yanks), it's just that you're in on the joke alongside Al himself. Genius.
Al Murray’s first appearance on television was doing random sound effects.

Check out his earlier work. He started off being known as a very good sound effect comedian. He made his breakthrough on TV on the show The Word in 1991. Pretty sure you can find it on here somewhere...

The joke of Liam Neeson is that he played a different Michael Collins who fought for Irish independence.
His degree is in history and from Oxford so he knows his stuff.
I can vouch for being a firefighter not being what is cracked up to be....serving my community for five years was an honour, but.....being a firefighter wasn't nice, you see some gruesome sights....road traffic accidents for example, or you walk into a burning building in the hope of rescuing someone, but are then faced with the horror of someone standing up like a human candle. It's NOT nice.
Sounds horrible. I once saw firefighters hosing down a pavement after a young woman had jumped from a car park. The thing is, I saw it the one time, your profession must have to deal with some pretty soul wrenching pain 🫶

For example my political opinion has nothing to do with them, but my assessment of his product or service is his business... The line is easy to see and just as easy to enforce...
