Dave Allen was a favourite Irish comedian in the UK. Very popular and very funny and very relatable.
I was pre teen in the seventies and I loved that man, why? He made my mum and dad laugh so hard it was a total joy to watch. I do have one particular memory of my mum getting up suddenly half way through his show and my dad asking where she was going. Her reply? I just peed myself a bit. God that just totaly killed me. I remember being on the floor almost in pain from laughing. It is a memory I truly cherish. Thank you Dave Allen for giving me these. RIP you are truly missed.

What’s amazing is this episode is around 40 years old, from a time when supermarkets were quite new, but very little has changed.

When did supermarket get popular in Ireland? Here in Germany, most of the major chains started in the 50s, and by the 80s supermarkets were far from being new even in the most rural towns.

Shame Ireland wouldn't allow his humour and he had to make his life in the UK. Thankfully things have changed and the Catholic Church no longer decides what people can watch and hear on the radio.

Also LESS exercise, LESS interaction with strangers and you may even help to put more people out of work (the same as the self-serve tills actually do in the stores!). Soon to be a cashless, machine run society... SMH 🤔

Self Checkout is very expensive - each machine costs $125,000 at a minimum. Shelf contents are moved for a lot of reasons: 1)Traffic in aisles - to help flow. If an aisle is getting blocked too much, contents of some are moved. 2) Loss prevention - thieves plan on getting in/out as fast as possible. If things are moved, it slows thieves up. 3) Cleaning - while moving for other reasons, it's a great time to clean.
Listening to you both, I remembered telling my husband I needed some polish, so off I went to where it used to be, instead there were packets, bottles and cans of stuff..I complained to my hubby there wasn't any polish, and you'd think the sign would tell you..He just said "Maggie..the sign says "Polish"..lol

🤬🥃Just moved back to UK from France....over there the union superglued the self service machines because they reduce staff numbers but the french elderly still pay by cheque.....i havent paid by cheque since 1986🤬🥃

You'll also notice, no clocks in supermarkets. That way you can't see the passing of time and keep on shopping. Of course we have our phones and watches but it's still a sign that the supermarkets don't want to advertise to you, what time it is.
And even though Dave signed off with "may your god go with you", he was an atheist (as I am).
It was tongue in cheek; go away and take your god with you.
Give respect to vets. But, don't let them disrespect you. You are what we fought for.
I live in France (but British). They have recently opened in supermarkets what they call "bla bla" check outs for older people (of which at 76 I am one, sad to say). The idea behind this is a kind idea so elderly people can have a chat with the cashier to help in their loneliness. This didn't work at all - we elders aren't all waiting to spend more time at the check out for a cosy chat. In the UK they have young lads helping to pack the shopping - much more useful !
The things I like most about British culture is that we are multi cultured and we all get on apart from some arseoles. 👍❤🙏. Love you two. Beautiful.

Here in New Zealand I've stopped going to the supermarket and order online delivery. Sure there's a delivery charge, but I'm saving money not being enticed to buy crap I don't need. By the way, no plastic bags here environmentally unfriendly

Self check out? Come on! It is the best thing ever! I dont have to talk to anyone, dont have to make eyecontact, dont have to answer "yes" to the most stupid question ever "would that be all?". Yes. That was all. I had a list. In my defence I am 🇫🇮

Your right he would have a field day with self checkouts and how they don’t work properly half the time and of course we now have scan and shop where you have a hand held barcode scanner to tot everything up prior to getting to the tills then you simply zap the list of items to the till, items can be packed while you’re going round the aisles. And of course you don’t even have to pay with cash these days or card you simply wave your phone and pay that way, long gone are supermarket queues and irate customers lol, the issues now are waiting for staff to come along to help you remove tags on items with security tags or when items don’t scan because they’re not in the database or it’s an age restricted item requiring staff authorisation each time these things happen a light flashes to let staff know, do they pay attention of course not and the till starts telling you hurry up and pay or I’ll start again 😂
