    A lost art! I'm happy to announce I just moisturized my Ralph Lauren hiking boots, which I hadn't worn in a couple years, and were noticeably hard and dry. It was either my parents or my ex-husband who taught me that leather needs to be cared for, and I'm glad I learned that somewhere along the way. I hope my classic, leather, lace-up hiking boots will last me a long time, I've already had them at least 8 years. I'll remember to moisturize them at least once a year.

    • @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh

      Yes ,its helpful sometimes to dust and wipe down the bag and if its very old then maybe a warm damp cloth could be used in some circumstances however we dont really use any other cleaning products. Thanks

    Any tips for cleaning leather (in general / if there are stains) prior to conditioning/care products? Just (a little) water (it's smooth leather in my case) or can you use some sort of mild cleaning agent?
    (I've seen recommendations online of water with a bit of vinegar (or even a 1:1 solution) - and moist not wet cloth)

    • @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh
      @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, when it comes to cleaning it really depends on the nature of the stains,type of leather and overall general age. Our leather care is more of a nourisher than a cleaner.

    hey I was wondering if the color of the leather would play any role in this.. does the conditioner in the video using an all around cream that can be applied to any tone of leather??

    • @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh
      @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The colour is not really the issue, the lighter the leather the darker it will go temporarily. I think the main question is type of leather. Our leather care is best suited for all veg tan leathers. Ta

    • @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh

    Would you recommend using the same thing for goatskin leather coat?

    • @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh
      @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes ,it cant do any harm . It will darken it temporarily and depending on the goat skin it will probaly take quite alot. If your trying to waterproof your jacket this wont exactly do it just kind of nourishing it instead and stopping it drying out.

    • @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh

      Hi Jan, that really depends on the state of the leather but it cant really do harm but would absorb alot more . Alot of our soft hide bags are lined with s suede so we wouldnt do that but sometimes to our saddle hide bags that have been neglected. Thanks

  • @SoldierAndrew
    @SoldierAndrew 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Would you agree, the claim that many leather goods manufacturers now claim that neatsfoot oil, over time, degrades leather and stitching?
    And what do you think about snoseal on leather goods?

    • @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh
      @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment Andrew, im not sure i do agree as it depends what leather your using however using any 100% pure oils could have an effect on such things. We also use a blend fat,wax,oil so its softer on the leather,stitching etc. I always use 100% oils with caution . Sno seal on Boots and certain leather goods eg proper outdooor all weather Yes however this is designed to built up layers so i wouldnt recommend on our goods as it contains alcohols.

    • @MackenzieLeatherEdinburgh

      As our bags are lined in suede we wouldn't really recommend much as its quite porous however maybe celatape might work to pick up dirt or fluff 😉

      It might just show up a minor imperfection however it could restore back to its normal colour and then moving forwards dont over treat that area. Im also not familar with that leather balm so cant guarantee 100%.
      Careful using alcohol as it will strip away any natural surface or finish. I would let it come back 🤞 feel free to send pictures 👍
