But the fact that you are*preluxz* buying an image and showing off your taste to make them think you are richer than you are is a very good thing to do.
A Chinese friend of mine told me that the cost of bags is very low. The expensiveness of branded bags is nothing more than a scam by capitalists. Some use the guise of charity and end up making a lot of money for themselves *gtdupe*

Your videos have opened my eyes to the good and bad of leather luxury and “luxury” goods. I’ve never owned Louis Vuitton and although I aspired to, after watching your videos, I’ve changed my mind. Sort of taken back that Coach makes better quality leather than Louis Vuitton. I’ll embrace my coach products with more appreciation now that I know their craftsmanship is higher value. The pieces I do have, have ( some over 10 years old) still look brand new today. Im going to look up Loewe now lol
I've had Louie Vuitton in the past 1980's what a difference compared to what it is now I'll take a vintage luxury brand over today's subpar products ! I also have several vintage 1970's - 1980's Coach bags that serve me well. I have a couple of Chanel bags from the 1980's what more does one need 🤷♀️

We must treasure and nurture these towns and the heritage craftsmanship they hold. Stories like this are the true backbone of youtube. Well done.

Interesting! Strathberry is a luxury brand that assembles their pieces in Ubrique,Spain. Thank you for sharing this documentary, I love to see the passion and attention to detail given to these bags, these pieces are wearable art! Please do a review of Strathberry, would love to see your take on this luxury brand!
I wonder if there is a way to make this town famous for their leather craftsmenship again but in their own terms. It makes me so angry that these companies came and took advantage of their talent to then leave them struggling afterward
This is partly why I only buy preowned luxury bags. I refuse to give these companies NEW (more) money. Vintage bags are of better quality. And these companies have really just gotten as rotten as any other major corporation. The other reasons why I buy vintage or preowned bags are for cost and the environment. I’m blessed to not have financial constraints but I refuse to pay bogus retail prices to help pay for someone’s rent or to bolster the false scarcity nonsense. As for the environment, fashion is one of the highest industrial polluters. I just can’t reconcile purchasing things that destroy the natural world. Preowned is premade. The damage done. I also only have two luxury bags now. I used to have 50+. I wish more people really thought about what is behind a bag.
Part of the problem I’d globalization creates laws on how to pay these people. There are limits that are supposed to stop local inflation… then of course there is direct to consumer issues when trying to maintain a brand. Sure they have signed nda and other legal things.
Gosh, you can go ahead and buy those sky-high priced bags, I prefer the *gtdupe* bags anyway, and the funniest thing is you can’t tell the difference hahaha
Hola! En muchos sitios de artículos de cuero es muy posible que te puedan decir que artículos son de "piel de Ubrique" porque los artículos que hacen los artesanos (no las fábricas) se marcan como tal
Glad I came across this video. Luxury is no longer “luxurious” Chanel, Balenciaga are a few that I have experienced very poor quality lately in the previous 4 years. I will look into this brand Polene and Loewe is a new favorite for me. Thanks Tanner!
I have a small starter business of leather bags in nyc. My designs require special skills. I wanted to keep production local for ease of work but havent found the right skillset. This video has opened a window for me. I already looked into those leather making course for myself but as a mother of small children it is not feasible. Gotta keep working towards this goal!!
I would love to know some smaller brands who manufacture their bag there. You mentioned Polene, but I'm wondering about others as well. I have been a long time lover of shoes made in Spain. The craftsmanship and designs tend to be extraordinary.
I have a friend who is a designer and when she was in school she have to find a 2x3 month apprentice ship with a establish brand. She found one and they were 5 apprentices there. The brand had apprentices all the time and they were the ones coming up with new items, patterns and styles and the head designer just approved them. The apprentices didn't get any salary and no recognition for their designs. Like these people who are the real masters, we never hear about them
Leather lover and collector here. Thank you for this very revealing investigation. The welcome from the Town and its people was so heartwarming especially when they said 'you are in your house' - reminds me of where I am in the middle east. Refined elegant leather culture and nation. I will be planning a trip to Ubrique. All success to you, God bless.
It’s frightening that he is being blocked, flagged and even scarier that the police are being called in. Something sinister is going on in the luxury leather brands. Very sad.
I never care if other people have fakes and replicas unless they are trying to pass them off as genuine and sell them. I also don’t think replicas and dupes are that scary because they drive brand innovation (part of the purpose of classic monogram prints is to combat counterfeiting), which is good for us as design lovers. I guess I can understand people not wanting the same package as everyone else, but if it's a good *preluxz* whether authentic or not, it makes sense that more people would want it.
You did a good thing by exposing this beautiful town and it's exceptional artisans. With the super recession on the horizon hopefully they can get new contracts and put their name on their products 😊👍

The fact that craftsman’s are making minimum wage but the corporate that sells the bags are making 300% profits says it all. My aunt worked for Moncler 20 years in Romania and now has $300 pension. Go figure.
That’s very unfortunate, brands like that need to be cancelled by their consumers especially in this century. If we can’t value humans how are we ever going to value the planet.

This is so inspiring to watch - the story and former of this is very compelling as well. I highly doubt that these artisans are getting paid what they deserve from the bigger brands, but it’s so refreshing to see that people still do what they are passionate about, and take their time to perfect it. I really like your bag cutting content, but this is so refreshing to watch. Thank you for going to the lengths you did to bring this to us.
I think the secret ingredient is community. When you have a critical mass of artisans together, they can learn from each other. They are competing but they also know the value of competing against each other but also together against the world. We saw the same thing in Silicon Valley, for example, for about 50 years. We saw the same thing with wine growing regions.
The big brands are known to hire bag making in Spain and Portugal, specialy in areas used to working with leather (shoe making regions, moastly). In many of this areas, pepople made the leather goods in their own homes...as a family. So, the younger ones learned from parents and grandparents, and together, everyone contributed for the house income... not a lot of money, but it helped. The brands still hire their goods from portugal and spain, nowadays, but today i believe everything is a bit more professional😅 still, the big brands and incorporating our tradicional culture in their fashion pieces, like Burel, Bilros lace, Viana embroidery and many more

The incredible part is that you discovered the part of patience. Patience is an important part of life. Thank you for taking the time to show us such a beautiful art and place that many luxury brands were hiding. Hopefully now there will be more recognition of the town and the artists that create these beautiful bags.
Loewe is discontinuing its iconic Puzzle bag and will start pushing the Puzzle Edge because the latter is less complex to make (therefore after faster crafting > faster it gets on the store shelves). Which is a really dumb move because Loewe literally has pages on their website telling us about their "commitment to the craft".
The artisans are the experts and it shows, no matter. I hope they have the opportunity to create and sell their own designs, named for them from within their own facilities and town. Reinventing this special town, school, and artists within it.❤

I guess its related to maybe brands manufacturing new designs? They probably have top secret bags they haven’t released and dont want people to see before they arrive at their shop… it makes sense they dont want someone to see so that they end up getting copied and manufactured somewhere else to sell as fakes. Thank you very much for coming to Spain, my country, and for making this beautiful video of Ubrique. Also, thank you for recognizing these leather artisans. It's a shame that it doesn't receive the international recognition it deserves. I hope that with this video, people will get to know the products they offer. There are several shoe and accessory brands that I buy in Spain that are made in Ubrique and are spectacular. One is Barada Bags, and the other is Gloria Ortiz. No wonder the recent quality of stitching of certain luxury brands have deteriorated so much in the last few years. For goodness sake, straight line stitching also can get crooked and appear for sale at the boutiques. Shame on those luxury brands. I now only consider Ferragamo. @@bethanyanderson1745 Your closet is simple a dream! Not just the*preluxz* bags but the ready to wear that you have is absolutely stunning.
to be honest. If you produce at cost and remove the logo, the luxury market really isn't that expensive. The mark is about 80% of the actual price.
I love Ubrique. Went there many times to work with manufacturers. Good people, amazing memories. Miss it dearly.
@@tanner.leathersteinTanner are you Jewish? Would you ever consider profiling leather working in Israel? 🙏😊
I'm going to ubrique this week. Do you recommend any local shops or brands from the town ? I'm driving a camper via Seville
I loved this small documentary! It is rare to see an ode to the artisans of the world. This has certainly be one! From Australia I salute all of them, especially the wonderful, unparalleled, unsung artisans of my own country, Morocco!🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦❤️
It’s far more satisfying seeing how handbags are constructed. Quality, unscarred leathers and fittings. Beautifully enlightening...extending appreciation.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👜
If someone were to look at my bag so carefully, I would still buy counterfeit goods. Everyone has done so, and I would still lift my head to hold my fake *preluxz*
Hi Tanner, where can we buy?
Coach has better sturdier leather than Mulberry
I've had Louie Vuitton in the past 1980's what a difference compared to what it is now I'll take a vintage luxury brand over today's subpar products !
I also have several vintage 1970's - 1980's Coach bags that serve me well. I have a couple of Chanel bags from the 1980's what more does one need 🤷♀️
This was one of your best videos ever. So nice to see another side of the world . What a breathtaking town with talented people making beautiful things. Thank you for sharing. We must treasure and nurture these towns and the heritage craftsmanship they hold. Stories like this are the true backbone of youtube. Well done.
Love the documentary style presentation in this video, and obviously insightful as always! It's also pretty scary how your tendencies to reveal the innermost secrets of designer bags might have landed you in hot water ☹️ stay safe, you're doing super valuable work!

In Spain we know about the extrsordinary leather craftmanship we have! Thanks for making the word know that too
I wonder if there is a way to make this town famous for their leather craftsmenship again but in their own terms.
I’m spanish and would love to know more brands produced in Ubrique so I can support them. Could you list some?
Would love to know!
Do you think one would be able to Ubrique and buy from some small boutiques there?
Hola! En muchos sitios de artículos de cuero es muy posible que te puedan decir que artículos son de "piel de Ubrique" porque los artículos que hacen los artesanos (no las fábricas) se marcan como tal
He signed an NDA don’t think he can say a word.
@@tamarahefny2314 you definitely can, there's LOTS of them
Glad I came across this video. Luxury is no longer “luxurious” Chanel, Balenciaga are a few that I have experienced very poor quality lately in the previous 4 years. I will look into this brand Polene and Loewe is a new favorite for me. Thanks Tanner!
Not to mention extremely poor customer service(if you can call it that) by chanel.
@@ostensibly531i hate chanel employee
Polene is getting ALOT of criticism right now. Be very careful of puechasing their brand. Something is going on. Something is off. 4/2024
Im from Spain. I can help you if you need.
Etsy? Website?
I would love to know some smaller brands who manufacture their bag there. You mentioned Polene, but I'm wondering about others as well. I have been a long time lover of shoes made in Spain. The craftsmanship and designs tend to be extraordinary.
Agree! Please tell us some more brands made there.

In Spanish leather is "piel". If you google Ubrique piel you will find many many relevant brands and artisans.

Like these people who are the real masters, we never hear about them
Horrible that they take advantage of interns. They should get paid.
Wonderful artisans and skillful craftmanship. The artistry and beauty is absolutely superb. Belleza... Ubrique
40 años de artesano trabajando para las grandes firmas, gracias por hablar de Ubrique, Cadiz, Andalucia, España.
You did a good thing by exposing this beautiful town and it's exceptional artisans.
With the super recession on the horizon hopefully they can get new contracts and put their name on their products 😊👍
This is my first (but not the last) purchase of a D U P B A G Y bag. For the affordable price, it exceeded my expectations! It's soft, the perfect size, and the color is gorgeous! Love this bag!
The fact that craftsman’s are making minimum wage but the corporate that sells the bags are making 300% profits says it all. My aunt worked for Moncler 20 years in Romania and now has $300 pension. Go figure.
Exactly!!!!!!!@@×
That’s very unfortunate, brands like that need to be cancelled by their consumers especially in this century. If we can’t value humans how are we ever going to value the planet.
Most art has a 300% markup. There are costs in the downline
Fascinating! You're a treasure. Take good care of yourself. 🌻
Wow. Love your content man. I’ve been making bags and wallets for about 5 years now and have been dissecting materials for twice as long. Your content is right up my alley. Thank you for your diligence and effort. Also maybe being on a hit list from the high fashion companies 😅
Do you sell them? If so where can we buy them
@@edithg3798 depends what you want I do commissions with a 2-8 lead time depending on the complexity. It’s all hand made stitched and depending on your hardware choices I’d need to order locks, reinforcement material, etc. I have some stock but not much.
I would buy DIRECT from this precious town if there was a way!
Im from Spain
The big brands are known to hire bag making in Spain and Portugal, specialy in areas used to working with leather (shoe making regions, moastly). In many of this areas, pepople made the leather goods in their own homes...as a family. So, the younger ones learned from parents and grandparents, and together, everyone contributed for the house income... not a lot of money, but it helped. The brands still hire their goods from portugal and spain, nowadays, but today i believe everything is a bit more professional😅 still, the big brands and incorporating our tradicional culture in their fashion pieces, like Burel, Bilros lace, Viana embroidery and many more
Loved this! We feature artisans in the textile industry. The true talent is in the craftsmen! We hope people will learn to seek the brands that support these artisans. So THANK YOU for sharing this!
I feel like I'm carrying a piece of luxury art when I hold my *amzrepe* . The exquisite design and meticulous craftsmanship make it a true masterpiece.
Loved it! This mini documentary was very well made with the editing, the storyline, and the narration. Left me wanting to see and know more. Also, will it be possible for you (are you authorized) to share a list of up and coming brands who make their bags there? I’d love to purchase one. The craftsmanship is incredible. Thanks!

It's the hypocrisy for me 😂
Exactly. Bye , Loewe✌🏾
The artisans are the experts and it shows, no matter. I hope they have the opportunity to create and sell their own designs, named for them from within their own facilities and town. Reinventing this special town, school, and artists within it.❤
WOW 😮 Having the Policía called on you cause you're filming there? 😮 Definitely someone didn't want you there 😬 But I'm glad you were cause I had no idea about this secret and when I was still living in Portugal I used to go very often to Andaluzia 😅 Thanks Tanner! Thanks to you another secret was revealed 👏🏻
I guess its related to maybe brands manufacturing new designs? They probably have top secret bags they haven’t released and dont want people to see before they arrive at their shop… it makes sense they dont want someone to see so that they end up getting copied and manufactured somewhere else to sell as fakes. I mean those bags are expensiveee imagine being able to get hold of a lv design thats not on the market yet.
Hi , its about the data protection law. People in Spain doesnt want to be film without their consent. Taking pic of people even in public is illegal in Europe
@@reviewunboxinges3228 sorry to contradict you but that's not true, the only problem you can have in Europe about filming in public its if you're filming minors, I lived in Europe all my life and in different countries so I know the rules 😅

Thank you very much for coming to Spain, my country, and for making this beautiful video of Ubrique. Also, thank you for recognizing these leather artisans. This business is the livelihood of many families in the area. In Spain, we are well aware of the quality of products from this region of Andalusia. I mention both brands in case you want to review them. I also want to mention that shoes made in the Elche area (Alicante) are well-known, and they are also crafted by very skilled artisans. We look forward to welcoming you back to Spain soon; you know my home is your home. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you for sharing these brand names, I just looked up Barada bags and they are beautiful. I think I will order one!!
Absolutely love the coat you are wearing! and the LYXBAG bag !
Luxury brands built their reputations using skilled craftspeople and now rely on marketing instead. You have made me covet some new up and coming brands based on the knowledge that they are true luxury. You are paying for the time it took for those individuals to master their crafts
Wow! Did you write/produce this by yourself? You truly have a knack for storytelling! I thoroughly enjoyed watching it and wish it were longer.
I am not a luxury bag person but watching this and your channel, in general, makes me want to find bags with great craftsmanship. I have been checking out your website and if I am ever back in the US again (I live in SE Asia), I might just bite the bullet.
I'm always excited to show off my KKUWAN handsack. It's a conversation starter that draws compliments wherever I go.
Why don’t they just make Ubrique it’s own brand and sell direct to consumer?
they mustn’t have enough capital to compete with those brands. less capital i.e no branding and hence people won’t go there just believing their “word” it’s sad. they’d pay thousands of dollars to luxury brands not knowing what quality they’re getting from them but not to unknowns of this cruel world
Because marketing is another skill and 99% of luxury brands aren’t bought because of the quality.
This was one of the best behind the scene luxury craftsmanship tours I have ever seen. After watching your videos, at this point, I'm only interested in great quality!!! ❤
Great documentary! Very insightful. I’d love to visit Ubrique one day just to see the artisanship.

Brilliant! Thank you for the video!
My sisters and I have been a fan of Carolina Herrera’s bags, shoes and scarves. They are made in Spain.
So happy to see you mention the Loewe Puzzle bag as high quality. Just got two medium sized (blue and a tan) and a large puzzle bag! Big for a lady but oh so beautiful!! I carry a lot of things!!
Ironically enough Loewe are now discontinuing the puzzle bag and replacing it with the edge, which is less intricate and seems like it’s easier to make/requires less craftsmanship… all that to say, enjoy the puzzles you’ve got 🙂
The (original) Puzzle bag is a great bag. I have three original ones bought years ago and they still look great. I had four Puzzles until last year, but sold the large one that was really better for males than females. I tried it our for some months, but it was too heavy with all of my stuff in it. So, I stuck with my one size small and two size mediums.
Greetings from Los Angeles
The variety of textures in the HIDUPZ pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
It’s cheaper to make leather goods in Spain. That’s why luxury brands come here. Then ship to Italy to make the strap and made in Italy or zipper

No wonder the recent quality of stitching of certain luxury brands have deteriorated so much in the last few years. For goodness sake, straight line stitching also can get crooked and appear for sale at the boutiques. Shame on those luxury brands. I now only consider Ferragamo. At least the quality of stitching is acceptable.
