    I've got a pair of Florsheim Imperial wingtips, black, that I bought in January 1982. These were made in the USA then and they are amazing. I still wear them, and they still look and feel great. I've had them relined and resoled a number of times. I remember my dad being incredulous that I would spend $100 on a pair of shoes back then (yet Dad NEVER bought cheap shoes, lol!) I told him that they would be the last black shoes I would ever buy, or ever need. That was true until a couple of years ago when I broke down and bought some nice Allen Edmonds black smooth oxfords. Cheap shoes waste your money and hurt your feet. Quality shoes are better for your feet, and with care, can literally last you for an entire career. My Florsheims proved that to me.

    Quick tip for the iron crease removing method: Double check your temperature setting!! Had a mishap, scorched and badly discoloured my old boots (though the creases were reduced). Luckily I had some leather dye about, did some mixing to get as close to the original colour as I could and redyed. Actually ended up being a richer colour than originally on it, so overall happy days! Just don't forget, check that temperature gauge!

    Nice brogues, Antonio! I use 'Brasso' to work off scuff marks and also remove excessive polish build-up. Works equally well. This trick was taught again by one of my orderlies when I was in the Indian Army. Always a pleasure watching your videos.

      They are not nice. They are hideous.. It's something my grandfather would wear 20 years ago. You guys get caught up in your brand names and your quality and forget to take a step back and actually look at what you're wearing.

  • @Straight2TheHeart

    Instead of the wash cloth + iron method, I use the steam from a kettle. Works great if you know how to do it properly. With this method, I already got dozens of shoes back to shape. Even my shoe maker was pretty impressed when I showed him what I was able to achieve with old shoes most people would have thrown into the trash bin. But for really good results you definitely need to invest more than five minutes of work. ;)
    And something very important, because I think that's a big flaw in this video:
    ALWAYS use leather conditioner (and wait a day or two) BEFORE doing anything else! Especially steps that contain water or steam.
    If you are working on very old and/or dried leather, it is very likely that it will be destroyed with water or steam if it hasn't been treated with conditioner beforehand!

    • @ntuthuko3175
      @ntuthuko3175 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surely if you apply conditioner before washing the shoe, you're just going to wash the conditioner off?

    • @sean1e100
      @sean1e100 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ntuthuko3175 the leather “drinks” the conditioner up. Imagine putting moisturiser on your skin and waiting for five mins. It’s like that.

    • @sean1e100
      @sean1e100 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ntuthuko3175 actually that's preceisely what I was getting at. You wouldnt wash moisturiser off if you got a bath / shower after moisturising, because it's penetrated and absorbed into your skin. If anything the oils in the conditioner help with pulling water further into the leather once it "bathes". Washing something "off" would imply that that the conditioner sits on the surface and then the water washes it away, which it doesnt... in short, you dont need to worry about it 👍

      You want saddle soap, not sure what brand is best. For conditioner, cream and polish the best is saphire, which was what he was using in certain spots. Saphire doesn't necessarily shine better (although it is easier to get a better shine with it) but it is better for the longevity of the shoe.

    If you buy a pair of gaziano and girling the leather creases but in a much finer way. MTO is around $2000 so not in everyone’s budget. It’s good to become knowledgeable about how quality leather feels, beware buying some of the cheap garbage. I have a pair of chukka boots that got wet and the leather is sort of permanently moulded with creases.
