Jokes aside, how do some people get krieg and steel legion mixed up?
Krieg is dark blue and black, and the soldiers have no personality. They also specialize in trench and siege warfare.
Steel legion is yellow and specializes in mechanized warfare
Blue und Black are just one Version of Uniform Colours, the Regiment of Colonel Jurgen of Krieg was this. Probably the classic Paintjob, of you want call it that, but from official Artwork i see Green Uniforms and Grey ones too. Simliar for the Steel Legion i guess.
i just realized, the death korps of krieg are based on ww1 era germany, while the steel legion look like a mix of ww1 german african troops and german ww2 Afrika Korps

An Armageddon tanker and a Kriegsman enter a bar and sit next to each other.
Before they order drinks, they strike up a conversation. The Armageddon lad passingly mentions how they constantly get mixed up for the more famous Kriegers. The Kriegsman himself just listens silently, even nodding to time to time. Despite this, they get along well enough.
They finally get their drinks. The Armageddon man takes off his mask and gets to drinking strait from the bottle. The Krieger puts his drink into a special canister and attaches it to his mask. To the Armageddon man, it seems a tad awkward.
They chat for a while others come by. With few exceptions, the Armageddon man socializes easily, striking up conversations, telling stories and jokes, and getting into all sorts of talk. To his dismay though, he notices his original companion sitting by, mostly staying out of it all.
By the time they leave, the Armageddon man as made quite a few new friends and gotten the waitresses vox number, leaving after shaking everyone's hands a few times over. The Kriegsman silently leaves beside him.
Just before they part ways to return to their prospective units for transport to battlefronts on planets abroad, the Armageddon Steel Legionnaire turns to his new friend, shakes his hand, and wisnes him fortune in battle, knowing in the back of mind what "fortune" would mean to him and the long odds against their seeing each other again.
After a brief pause, the Kriegsman thanks him for good company in his first and likely last trip to a bar.
"What? I've heard things are bare on Krieg, but don't you at least have a tavarn or two underground?"
"Ja, but laws are strict about when one can drink, let alone enter a bar. I only turned old enough while on route to this planet."
The Armageddon man lifted an eyebrow, "what's the minimum age on Krieg?"
"17"
Man, this would make for a cool short audiodrama.
Those two are going to get run over by a Baneblade for that. And, unlike Yarrick, they won't walk away from it.

Fun fact, back in second edition before Krieg got dedicated models the Death Corpse of Krieg was an alternate color scheme of the Armageddon Steel Legion models.

Lowkey when i started getting into 40k i started with TTS guard and thought the Steel Legion was Kriege
It kinda sucks that the place they came from is more popular than the legion that came from it considering a decent amount of famous people went and fought there. plus the fact that there are three whole wars happening for that planet and the third one is still ongoing.
Now that I think about ita kinda fun y how the relations to the planets they came from are very different for the Death Korps and Steel Legion.
For Krieg everyone knows it for it history but the regiments that came from it are more well known.
For Steel Legion, they themselves are the but of jokes but Armageddon is pretty popular thanks to Yarrick, Grimaldus and the Last Chancers fought there

The Steellegion is the Baby of a Krieg and Cadian Soldier. Change my Mind, if you mix this two Regiments you will get the Steellegion.

Bro the Steel Legion sorta came first. If anything it'd be like: Death Korps of Krieg are the baby of a Steel Legionnaire and Iron Warriors.

Armageddon with his Steel Legion Regiments came waaaaaay before the Death Korps Regiments 'cause Armageddon was back in the Day first Ullanor(Yeah, this Great Crusade Ullanor) and got teleported in the War of the Beast and get this new Name(and Planet System) after this with his new Settlers and this all was... uh, M.32? 33? The *Death Korps* Regiments of Krieg show first up after the 500 Years of Civil War in M.40(In Terms of the Imperium they are new ones in the Imperial Guard if we take it this way and not before the Civil War)... so yeah, even if somebody would try it with "but Krieg existed before!" this wouldn't work 'caufe before this Regiments of Krieg are normal Soldiers of the Imperial Guard, good ones but still some normal Dudes the cant hope to be Rivals to Regiments like Cadian, Catachan, Vostoryan or Armageddon ones the all fight allready long before.I love my Gaskmask Boys and Girls of Krieg, I even have one Superheavy Tank Company with a little Mechanized Support(Full Steel Legion Style, ... We both see the Irony? :D) to my Handmade Death Watch and Krieg Killteam and my Tau Army but I know... Steel Legion came first. What did I forget? Ah, yes! Hydra dominatus, I am Alpharius and everything was a Lie. (Sorry for the maybe bad writing, I barley made use of English.)
