    That fan was spinning the wrong way because it was dead to begin with. The amount of air pressure with the working one caused the dead one to spin backwards acting like intake/exhaust scenario.

      Was about to comment the same thing. In a pinch where you can’t get a new motor (if it was bad) you can cover the top of the bad fan so the one working fan just pulls through coil and not through the bad fan opening. Still won’t be 100% but better than pulling air through the fan opening

    I'd just like to add a few things for ya. Not being critical, just hoping to make the job a bit easier.
    When testing caps, you only need to clear 1 terminal set (i.e. the brown wire for the fans). So long as it doesn't have a path back, your readings will be accurate.
    The yellow wires between caps are jumpers back to common, so you're not running a bunch of wires back to crowd your contactors. This is totally normal on multi-stage.
    Capacitor differentiation, 99% of capacitors will be run capacitors (stays in the electrical circuit during operation). Some will be silver, some may be green(trade pro). The start capacitors (mostly a black plastic) will have an internal(large lid with 2 wires coming from the top) or external potential relay, which exits the circuit upon compressor startup due to a back EMF voltage from the compressor windings opening the relay.

    Looks like that sleeve that the wires run through wasn't installed properly at the factory. Notice how far it sticks out on the left side of the cabinet, then it's short on the right side and allows the wires to rub. Might have been able to slide it over instead of doing the foam wedge, but either way good repair and I learned something (black vs silver caps). Thanks for sharing.

    The capacitors with all the yellow wires is a common practice I see on units. The capacitor is sitting between the common and run winding. It makes no difference if the common goes back to the contactor or the capacitor electrically. As long as the capacitor is replaced the fans will keep working great, also including the other wire being connected and not burned in half. Respects to you over there and taking on jobs like that on the side of a building. I have enough problems being on roofs with low parapet walls.

    Just an observation at 26:09. Everybody likes to armchair quarterback😁. The rotation of the bad fan was backwards, so I would suspect the pull of air by the good fan is causing the bad fan to freewheel backwards. At that point, I would check power to the motor, and likely a bad motor. Just a thought... You do good work. I will now resume the video and see what you do... Thanks for the videos!!!

    For capacitors in series, the total capacitance can be found by adding the reciprocals of the individual capacitances, and taking the reciprocal of the sum. Therefore, the total capacitance will be lower than the capacitance of any single capacitor in the circuit. Use an online calculator.
    When capacitors are connected in parallel, the total capacitance is the sum of the individual capacitors' capacitances. If two or more capacitors are connected in parallel, the overall effect is that of a single equivalent capacitor having the sum total of the plate areas of the individual capacitors.

  • @swflutka
    @swflutka 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The yellow wire was daisy chained. There was only one yellow wire coming from the contactor going to the first capacitor for the first fan, then jumped to the second capacitor for the second fan.

    You should clamp on each motor and see if the current draws are equal. Gives an indication of a motor on the way out since you have two motors on each contactor.

      Hey, it usually says +- 5% so above 5% or below 5% of the rating, it is starting to go bad. It would still work but its on its way out. Better to replace at around 10% at most for a rule of thumb. Good luck my friend! Stay tuned for new videos every week🔧⚡️

    • @avi-tar2827
      @avi-tar2827 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Looks like that whole package is only on one 3-phase breaker, maybe a 50 or 100A (don't know the unit's BTU rating to tell). A single-phase short-term fault likely wouldn't have tripped that breaker before it cleared. Note the hole in the frame. That was an arc burn-through.
      That foam won't protect those wires very long, JMT. A plastic wire standoff to hold that bundle away from the frame would be the long-term fix.

      @richardbartlett6932 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JumpermanTechyou're wrong, look again. You missed it. The fan was turning backwards because of airflow. Fixing the wire and it suddenly worked. It's a learning lesson for future. Happens a lot on systems with more than one fan. Evaporators is an easy miss as you look up and see them all turning and assume they are all good.

      Yes, the good fan motor is drawing in air. As air takes the path of least resistance rather than going through the condenser it draws air through the faulty fan aperture so as the air passes the blade into the cabinet it turns the blade. That motor isn't running.
