    This new building is lucky to have you there and the same for the hotels you service. When I was an engineer back in the day, I wish I had your help. Thank you for all you do and the videos you produce.

    Lol. Me and my helper were just talking about changing belts. Hey, when i 1st heard that belt, i was thinking that the pullys were too tight.

    • @JumpermanTech
      @JumpermanTech  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I hear that! I thought of that as well, but it was the belt being too dry and worn out. The other guy said all is fine, but clearly, it wasn't. We all learn something new every day! The new belt with belt dressing made a huge difference, and it will really preserve that belt. Always nice to have a spare as well. Thanks for watching as always! 🙏🔧⚡️

      I've heard that same belt noise from things on autotensioners. The belts look fine but sound like they're too tight. You make sure the tensioners work and just replace the belts and the noise goes away.

    I am wondering if the noise was a worn sheave/pulley, misalignment or since the dufus before you jacked things up, even the wrong belt. I am far from an expert, but to me, it sounded like the the belt grabbing the pulley.

    Over greasing is practically as bad as under greasing. It causes greater friction/heat which will kill the bearing life. Additionally, it appears like they may have mixed greases. Mixing incompatible greases breaks down the viscosity of both greases which will also create more friction and kill bearing life.

    • @logicaljuan
      @logicaljuan 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      They should go ahead and buy replacement pillow block bearings because they will likely need them before too long. And purge the greases lines when they do with poly Rex em.

    We use Polyrex grease on our motors ( non cooling tower ) they way over greased that sucker and blew out the seals. With normal maintenance...should be 2-3 pumps of grease maximum every 6 months. You can actually figure out the correct amount by using the timer on the VFD. It has a run time counter that can be reset for maintenance. The manufacturers provides a chart for how much grease for how much runtime. Those bearing seals are toasted. I take care of some really large fans, especially for stairwell pressure fans. We have one building where the exhaust fans are over 10' tall and the fan is over 6' in diameter. Just did some maintenance on the parking garage exhaust fans at the TX state capital building. They are Flakt fans and the motors are 100hp and the fan blade diameters are 8' each.

    Leave a note on the EF for the maintenance guys saying “3-4 pumps of grease, THATS IT”
    My co worker does like 10 pumps, I tell him all the time you need only 3-4, every bearing he touches he over greases

    I work in a hospital. And as soon as I heard the noise I knew what was wrong with the fan. We have 4 in house techs and management doesn’t understand that over grease kills bearings. They want to see grease coming out of it

    Belt dressing is only a temporary fix in most cases. It gets flung off the belt and causes a mess. I have seen belt dressing break down the rubber belt destroying it. It's better to clean the sheaves and replace the belt with a new one.

    The pulleys are grooved badly, that grating sound are the pulleys being worn down. You don't need gunk for this issue, you need new pulleys. Get the correct set and retain the keys. Oh, and replace the pillow blocks because the grease they used may be the wrong type for this and flushed out the grease that is rated for this. Not to mention blowing out the seals on the bearings. Check pulley alignment and belt tension according to the manufacture, and I'll assure you it won't fail on them for 5-10 years of proper maintenance.

  • @jrh86

    Yeah missing and incorrect screws plus over greasing is always a red flag.

    Greasing bearings is a gray area out there.... What's too much, what's not enough, how frequent to grease.... Should get rid of all greasable bearings... When they go bad, just replace... Removes user error from the picture...

    • @JumpermanTech
      @JumpermanTech  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Im confused, i assumed you did exhaust fans like this before in your career. Sounded a bit like a 2nd year apprentice. Belt dressing was recommended to not be used by Browning. If you got a sqeeky belt you can check your pulleys and tension. If your snapping belts on and not checking your alignement. The 3/8 screws do come with the unit as well as the metal tabs they have for the screws.

      Lastly the panel has a side were 2 screw holes are closer together those belong on the back so the cover was backwards.

    Self-tapping screws is just such a cheap and bad solution by the manufacturer.
