I made a big screwdriver rack in the furnace room to hold all my extra lesser used screwdrivers but I can still walk in there and easily pick one out if I need something different from the ones I keep in the shop area. When you waste a full day making a custom screwdriver rack it probably means you own enough.
I was one of the guys who asked for a usa made series, and own mostly USA made hand tools. I own Mac, Snap on new and old, old Craftsman, newer channellocks as beaters (still USA made) and some semi newer SKs. They’re all good screwdrivers but I almost exclusively pickup my Japanese made Vessel screw drivers nowadays. They’re “cheap”, very well built, and that JIS (not a Phillips tip) is superior to the Phillips tips. If you haven’t checked out a Japanese Industrial Standard screwdriver do yourself a favor and get one. You’ll thank me later, the Philips tips are designed to cam out at 35 inch pounds. JIS will not cam out. It’s also all you should use on like Honda “phillips” screws. They’re actually JIS screws. However they do work better with Philips screws too. As I said if you haven’t check one out yet, you’ll thank me if you do. As a USA made fan boy, who preaches buying usa made products, I do recommend Japanese and German made products as well. More often then not, the best made anything comes from these three countries.
I really enjoy this set. I got mine after I saw your first video on them. Milwaukee’s other USA made hand tools are great too. I have the side cutters, linemen’s and needle nose. Those are priced like Klein but worth it in my opinion.
I have to say this set is great, i have the 4-pc set and also have the demo set in the same grips. I have 2 longer ones (ph1 & ph2) coming should get in today. I really like the grip on these, feel great in the hand. The tips grip the fastners well and the knurling on the shaft is a nice touch. I have a set of old performance tool drivers with black grips kile those SKs, they are awesome until you get any moisure, grease or gunk in the mix, the not so much. Thanks for this series Jeff, im always interested in US made tools.
It always comes down to grips with screwdrivers!! some guys dont like the milwaukee grips!!! im like you i do!!! dont get me wrong i still love my williams!!! more coming, stay tuned!!! thanks my friend!!!
Jeff, I just placed an order for something I have wanted for over 30 years I think. The Hazet 914-18 1/2" 18.6" Flexible Handle. I placed a order at $86 most of the time it's $120 to $150. I have always liked the larger yoke around the square.
They sell them at home depot in the electrical section. Some stores also sell the individual screw drivers as well. Really good screw drivers for sure. Milwaukee is making alot of usa made hand tools mostly electrical right now
I know that screwdrivers always come down to how they feel in your hands!!! dont get me wrong those SK srewdrivers grip the screw well!! just didnt like how hard the handles are,un like the williams hard handles that are tectured, grainy feel to them!! thanks lieser for sharing your thoughts!!!!
Those are nice. I think Milwaukee opened a plant to manufacture their own stuff like that here. A lot of other american brands get Mayhew and a couple of other US companies to manufacture theirs for them. I recently invested in some Vessel Megadora with red handles and striking caps. Those just feel better in my hand than any other screwdriver I've held. The JIS tip is perfect for working on any type of japanese car, motorcycle, or atv. No more stripped screw heads on my Rubicon.
I have always liked the look of the Milwaukee screwdrivers. They have nice features, too. The etching on the tip helps the screws stay in place. The knurling and hex bolsters are good in high torque situations.
I love those Milwaukee screwdrivers as well. Another USA Brand that I feel doesn't get enough attention is Channellock. I believe 80-90% of their tools are made in Meadville PA by American workers. Just saw the other day that they now have USA made screwdrivers and pry bars that look pretty nice for a good price.
All their pliers are made in USA, and every one of them except the snap ring pliers are made by them in Meadville (the snap ring pliers are Lang). The pry bars are sourced from Wilde and the screwdrivers were sourced from WF with an acetate handle until that closed down, now they get Mayhews with some slight modifications to the handle mold to make them just a little different in minute ways.
Good lookin set of drivers. I just bought 2 sets. One from tekton and one from capri. Gota say them capri feel good in the hands but the tekton have the hard handles i like both sets. Nice video and keep em comin
I would like to point out with the holes, and you see them on their import line as well and on the USA pliers, that they can be used as tethering points. Its something a lot of companies dont seem interested in doing or making it an expensive option but for folks who need tethered tools they got the goods.
I have wanted those ever since you showed them the first time and still do. When you were showing it holding the screw it went to a commercial of you reviewing the Capri wrench set. Have a great day Jeff
I guess we got spoiled with those $20 full sets of USA made Craftsman screwdrivers from years back. The ones that were made by Western Forge in the USA and are marked "Forged" are hot forged and are stronger and better than the later ones that were not hot forged. The letters on the handle are date codes of when they were made. WF as most know went out of business in 2020 and they were a Craftsman supplier for decades. What a lot of folks may not know is that Sears provided the partial start up money for WF to be established in Defiance, OH. They move to Colorado Springs, CO in 1966.
I remember those old craftsman sets!! i still have a bunch of those screwdrivers!! bought in 1980s!!! thanks as always my friend for sharing your knowledge!!
@@jefftovani5535 I have some NOS USA made Craftsmans and probably over 200 screwdrivers. I'm going to start making some sets of them based on the catalogs.
I read somewhere there supposed to release some USA made demo screwdrivers and possibly insulated screwdrivers later this year. The ID labels on the back are nice if you have them in a tool belt or Veto bag.
I heard also they were going to release demo screwdrivers, later this year!! i like the ID markings on back of the handle as well!!! thanks for joining in my friend!!!
Snap-On did make some mini screwdrivers with knurling, but I think they're discontinued and hard to find. I haven't got any, but I've seen them on other YT channels. I do like Vessel screwdrivers, I just got a set of extra-long flat blades, including a hammer-thru beast which is 12 x 250mm. That's a big screwdriver!
The tips and knurled shanks and domestic manufacturing...etc are all great things, but I just can't get behind the handles. I'm a traditionalist, and these handles are a big no for me. If they had a more traditional looking handle I'd have snatched up a set ASAP. I am very glad Milwaukee has made the move to start producing a line of high quality hand tools here in the USA.
@@jefftovani5535 my problem ( which is probably me being too picky ) is that I haven't even tried them based on looks alone. If I didn't care so much there's a chance I might love them.
Jeff, have you ever seen a doctor about your tool addiction? FWIW, my late '70's Craftsman screwdrivers are still going strong. Other than the one that "someone" used as a chisel. As always like the vid/info.
Those are older Western Forge made (hot forged) USA units and they are keepers. I have several of them and they last and are my "go to" screwdrivers for most things.
I had no idea those were US made I recently acquired a bunch of HiViz Snap Screwdrivers. But these might be an option for the back shop so I’m not walking all over the place for tools. I do have a set of Wiha Magic Ring drivers too.
These look pretty good. I'm leaning toward Vessel in the future 'cuz of JIS. BTW, I got the chief right angle drill from HF. Haven't played with it yet, but it has a Jacobs chuck so it might be decent.... We'll see!
I’m overloaded on screwdrivers at this time but glad to see Made in USA Milwaukee tools that are great quality! Thanks as always Jeff!
Oh i hear ya!! lots of guys have way more then they need, lol!! thanks for checking in!!
