These guys just done mine today (E Class Estate) hahaha must have been their 30th or 40th by now. Wicked job by these guys, travelled 2 hours to get to them, well worth it, they know what their doing. Other garages said I needed an engine rebuild 😂
He is a proper genius. Booked my car for monday. And am travelling all the way from manchester cuz i know its still worth it. He knows exactly whe he is doing. Could changing the oil every 3-5000 miles delay this issue from happening? Could also lusing a 0w40 engine with 229.52 spec help protect the chain and rocker arms more ? You guys are awesome
Changing the oil at the miles you’ve mentioned will definitely delay this issue because we’ve seen many cars with this issue that occur between 100,000-140,000 miles.
Its good to know what lays in store on my mercedes, if its a known fault Mercedes should cough up and do the repair for free, like they due with the rear subframe failures.
This issue usually occurs once the car has hit a mileage of roughly 100,000 miles, and the latest model we’ve seen that has this issue is in the 2019 654 engines. We haven’t personally seen this issue in later 654 engines (2020-2022) because these cars most likely haven’t reached the 100,000 mileage.

Is the noise coming also from hot engine? My 2018 e200d makes similar noise when starting cold but the noise goes away as the engine reaches operating temperature. I have 65 000 km on the odometer. How did the engines you have fixed sounded like with higher revs?

My w213 has currently 296.000 kms and next week i drive it to a mechanic for a replacement of timing chain, camshaft arm rockers and also water pump with all the belts. Would you also recommend oil pump replacement or anything else that is problematic with these cars? Thank you.
yes definitely change the oil pump oil pump chain and oil pump gear oil pump and brake vacuum pump is a complete part. You can also watch our video timing chain and oil pump job same engine 654.
The style of driving doesn’t affect the problem so much, to prevent this issue from arising, changing your oil and oil filter every 5,000 miles will help
Is this a problem with disel engines only or it could happen to gasoline engines E300 too? I have an E300 gasoline engine in u.s. should i expect the same problem?
Is the engine a 654 engine? If it is a 654 engine, the camshaft and rocker arms are likely to have issues which could explain the noise you’re hearing from your vehicle. Hope that was helpful :)
How many miles on your car, because the noise in the video occurs after 100,000 miles. If it is the same noise as in the video it is most likely the same problem.

Have you seen these issues on the later OM642 engines? I have noticed some external changes but didn’t know whether there are internal ones as well?
I have seen them go wrong on 69 plate e classes so the later 2019 but nothing after that so far

If you do this repair, will this issue happen again 100k miles later or are the new parts somehow better design?
The parts are better and so far no one who’s car we’ve repaired has come back with issues. We may have to wait and see.

Very very difficult but if you listen carefully you could hear it slightly starting off

Is the engine a 654 engine? If it is a 654 engine, the camshaft and rocker arms are likely to have issues which could explain the noise you’re hearing from your vehicle. Hope that was helpful :)
