    You did the best advert for Hollyland anyone could have ever done - one of the most important memories anyone can ever have is the birth of their child. My little guy is 3mo old now and I would have LOVED to have had some sort of recording of that moment. Never once did I think to bring in my DJI mic kit to grab audio - even that audio by itself is a tear jerker.

    1) your brother is todays version of Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty and i fucking love it
    2) Audio engineer here....noise cancellation doesnt need the entire human ear frequency spectrum to work (20hz - 20khz) It just takes whatever sound is captured, creates two versions of it inside, and flips the polarity 180 degrees of one of the 2 tracks it records and you get what we call "Phase Cancellation". Its when two of the same *EXACT* sound waves play at the same time, but one sound wave with the polaritiy flipped. So one sound wave in the specturum where the wave refracts, the other one compresses, cancelling eachother out and you get....pure silence. Science is cool lol. This is how us EDM guys will extract vocals out of songs we want to remix that doesnt have Studio Acapellas freely available. We find the instrumental to the song, match it up to the original song, flip the instrumentals polarity in our favorite DAW (Digital Audio Workstation....fancy word for - program we make our fire beats in) and the only thing left is the vocals because that part isnt in the instrumental so thats the only part not affected by the phase cancellation. Noise Cancellation works exactly the same way but its programed to learn what the human voice sounds like, keep ONLY the human voice, and "Phase cancel" any other sound. Capturing more low end doesnt make this process and better or worse in quality. Its more so HOW they program the noise cancel algorithm to do it right. I would also like to add while there are some Mics that have good phase cancellation...i would recommend learning how to do this in post because this is what we call a "destructive" recording. Whats done is done and theres no bringing it back. Thats how it was recorded at the source. But if you turn off noise cancellation, do it in post - you can fine tune how much it noise cancels or maybe even come to the conclusion...you dont want any at all. Sometimes I notice with some other mics that do this (even higher end ones) it doesnt always do exactly a good job at it in some enviornments...so i just continued to do it in post production instead so i can have it at a level I want it at. Not what the microphone manufacturer wants it at.
    3) To your point of EQing and how the mics sound, all the mics you tested MOST LIKELY (im only speculating) are all using the same exact microphones inside. They most likely all get them from the same vendor and most likely a chinese vendor. Thats not a bad thing...if it sounds good.....well then it sounds good. Headphone companies are kinda the same thing. One headphone thats 300 dollars could have the same EXACT drivers as a 100 dollar headphone. They could sound different because of the EQ curves inside....but all in all...theyre the same. So why does the 300 dollar one cost more? Because Apple bought them out and slapped Dr. Dre's name on them and called them "Beats By Dre". Thats why. Why theyll sound different is sound is a subjective thing. What might sound good to the people at Rode, might not sound good to the people at DJI, so to your point - they just EQ the mic curves differently. For some mics to be cutting out 20hz - 40hz, its propbably the decision by the company to cut those out because youll end up cutting them out anyway in post so why record them in the first place? I bought the fakest DJI clones on amazon for like 30 bucks and the sound quality was.....ehhhhh lmfao. I needed them in a pinch because I dont have a 2 wireless lav mic set up and needed them this weekend so I got these cheapo's just for this one shoot. Testing them, i just applied an EQ curve to it in Davinci resolve until it sounded REALLY good, just saved it as a preset (literally called "Cheap Amazon Mic") and it sounds just like my Rode.

    DJI could score a huge win if they integrated their transmitters into their DJI OSMO Action 4 and Pocket cameras or released timecode versions with 32-bit audio and had BT timecode generators in their Action, pocket, and other cameras. Would be awesome to just sync up and not really worry about audio.

    My biggest gripe with these type of mics is the SPL. I tend to work in very loud enviorments and just wondered if you have tried yelling or being around 110dB+
    The lark max has 128 dB SPL and the DJI mic has 114 dB so these must work better in loud environments! Great overview man!

    Deity is coming out with a similar mic system and it will have 32 bit float just like their newly released UHF system. I saw it a NAB but not at Cine Gear LA. So hopefully they haven't given up on it. I'm using the Zoom F2-BT and I love the fact that I don't have to set the levels anymore. It's been a real boost to my work flow. For work related projects, I'll have to give these a try. Great comparison Video! Also, Congrats on the new arrival!

      Yeah I briefly covered them with my NAB video. They look legit, a bit bigger than these guys, also priced at $1000. One thing I read today is they wont allow simultaneous internal recording while transmitting for US customers due to patent infringement issues. Not sure how thats enforced, but Id get my hands on a European version in that case.

    Knock off??? I believe Hollyland is much much more used in professional productions than rode, just in different departments, but hollyland definitely does not deserve to be called a knockoff. They probably would have stronger wireless capabilities too because the company's main thing is literally low latency wireless video transmission

    • @MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL
      @MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I kinda agree. This is where the youtuber brain has to market the video. I think the perception everyone has is that they copied DJI based on last videos regarding this form factor. In the end it's just a title for clicks, bringing awareness of a legit company that many might not know about. But they did copy Rode with wireless pocket lavs, no way around that. But beyond that, they have certainly innovated, and I'm looking forward to many more of their products to come.

    A-men, we need 32 bit internal in all of these mics. I like my Go 2's but I hate their boosted EQ parameters. I measured their frequency response on my other channel if any care to see it. Thankfully, they don't re-EQ/boost a plug in lav, only the built in mic. Cheers 🍻

    • @scoopof3d
      @scoopof3d ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Finite-Tuning Sorry, I'm building my own 32bit wireless system, where the recording would happen on the Receiver end on a SD card. That's to save space on the transmitter, to make it smaller, about a thumbdrive size. Wondering if that would be acceptable for film makers / creators. I personally never have a need to record.

    • @Finite-Tuning
      @Finite-Tuning ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scoopof3d:
      The Rode GO 2 works a little different then that by design, but it can be made to work your way. If you want your own recording solution, just use the output from the receiver and do with as you please, but it will only be 48khz at 24 bit. If you want 32 bit audio, then you must use the internal recordings from the Go 2 transmitters and convert it using the RODE app. That is how I do it, using an external plug in lav mic to avoid the boosted EQ parameters of the built in mic.
      You can record at any rate you like externally, but the devices themselves only output/record at 48khz 24 bit depth. Is this kit good enough for Hollywood movies? Personally, I think yes, if using an external lav mic with the transmitters. If using the built in mics, you will want to/have to re-eq. That's the only thing I really hate about this kit, I don't want a company to tell me what sounds good or natural. And that is exactly what RODE is doing by boosting the upper mid range frequency response. But it's easily fixed by plugging in an external lac mic. I hope I understood your intentions correctly, but I do own the Rode Go 2 kit, so I can answer any question you might have regarding this specific kit. Cheers 🍻

    • @scoopof3d
      @scoopof3d ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Finite-Tuning Hey I think its a misunderstanding. Im making my own product, building my own pcb with chips, code and enclosure design. Im gathering information from other makers to see what they really need in a wireless mic setup like that. To keep the Mic TX small no onboard recording is added (bunch of extra big chips) , so In my setup recording happens on the Receiver side to a sd card.
