I am 70 now and have seen countless builds - this one is my all time fave! Great vision Carl! You and Brent are creating a one of a kind mchine ehere. I love the cab over and the detailed perfection that you guys have applied to it. Thanks so much from Ashern MB!
Man this comment means a lot! Anytime somebody can say that it’s a favourite build I am blown away! Stoked that you dig it as much as I do it’s been a dream of mine for many years
I'm with you on that one @lindenjohnson1515 I'm not too far behind you but really like what's being done to this truck ... Can't wait to see the bed go on the back ...
Karl, may I make suggestion, Mike Bello uses wing nuts on the bolts when pre-assembling his suspension parts, that way he doesn't have to have any wrenches at hand. When he has all the brackets for the swing arms tacked in place he also doesn't need any wrenches to take things apart to finish weld. You do though have to make sure you can remove the bolts after you tack the brackets.
PS,
He also has metal bushings that take the place of the rubber bushings when he does the pre-assembly so he doesn't risk damaging the rubber one's with the heat from the tacking process.
I also agree with Bello's method👍😁 Mike does a lot of link bars all the time so he's got a system, where make it custom shows how to overcome not getting yourself into a bad situation by the way he's shown how it can be done without making up extra parts and still arrive with a well fit part!!
I like the way you put that. I'm a body man so I don't get to fan slot. It sounds good to me
@@lewiskemp5893 whichever way that works is a win in my book...it doesn't need to be fancy or made by whomever as a long as the finish product fits the desired outcome,in any situation if it's repeatable and accurate that's what matters. Been in the automotive industry for over 25 plus years as a painter/body man in the collision industry.
Yeah, I’ve seen him do that. It’s a really great way to go especially if you’re making the same size bushing links all the time.
Hi Karl. Just a suggestion, if you change the very front joint on your front suspension to a Hein joint you will have less wear and tear in the twist motion of the suspension. The build is awesome, like it
Ballistic fab joint
I thought the same thing. Those style bushings are designed to rotate on 1 plane - rotate around the bolt - and not twisted across it. As the front axle tries to articulate it will severely stress the bushing and mount. A Heim joint would definitely be a better option.
Yeah all you guys are absolutely right but with a sway bar in there it’s not gonna see much side to side movement and I think the urethane bushings will easily handle the job but if it ever wears out too fast, I’ll swap it to a Johnny joint
So, did you adjust the camber angle for better highway use?
We sure like watching the magic happen when you two get together on a project. Thank You Karl and Brent and Esther.
I'm 72 and an old Hot Rodder from way back, I love watching you and Brent come up with such precision made fab work, sooo cool! Keep up the GREAT work!
Thanks a lot Dave much respect for an old-school dude that seen it all!
This is my favorite ongoing build on all of youtube, So sick. Can't wait to see this thing finished.
Right on thanks glad to hear it!
Karl doing the gas axe ballet. Looking good you have serious talent. Its a pleasure to watch your projects come together.
Thanks man ! I love the torch hahha
I appreciate your precise and professionally first-class work, you are a true artist!
You make it look easy, I have done enough fabrication to know that you have "The Gift", work ethic, aesthetic and engineering skills.
Karl you’re such a talented young man. There’s not a fabrication you can’t do. It’s amazing to watch you cut weld and creating. I’m looking forward to the completion of this Ramp Truck. Going to be so cool.😎 I’m sure Brent will come back and help. You’re both amazing. And Love both of you. ❤
💯👍
Who's about break 300K subscribers? Well deserved!
Hell yeah maybe I should have a little party lol thanks to everybody on the channel. It’s incredible the growth!
Looks like Karl got an A+++++ in geometry! Nice work kid.
It would be so cool to have an awesome friend like Brent to work together on stuff
@Make It Kustom There is a company called Aire Jax that makes a 3/8 manual valve manifold. They’re pressure sensitive switches and would dump your rear much faster. Just thought I’d mention them in case it helps. Love the build, excited to see more.
The York 210 as a EDC is a nice touch. Great job man! Love this build 👊🏼
That is some impressive engineering there! You and Brent work great together! Take care.
Thanks, Dale much appreciated!
Congrats on getting the air bag setup in and working. Awesome collab with Brent. Aloha🤙🏼
Man, you got mad torch skills everybody is using plasma cutters and your cuts are cleaner for sure Nice nice nice
Oh no…….. make it Half Ass Kustoms………………The Dynamic Duo……the Masters of Steel and Paint……yahhhhh together again……👍👍👍👍😁😁😁😁
As a fan of both of your channels and your decidedly different approaches, I'm delighted to see how well you and Brent collaborate. Synergy. Great build!
Amazing engineering and design work. I just think that the front of that A frame needs to be a ball joint and something to keep the axle centered like maybe a watts link. I really enjoy your videos.
Love to see it out on the freeway and see if it can go 90+mph. That would be such a smooth ride!
That’s a fine looking Canadian front end A 😮 Keep them coming Karl love the collab with Brent as usual !
This is going to be sweet hauling your rides and picking up your next project. You and Brent had a blast getting that COE ready for the next issue of lowrider 😉
Man, how cool would it be to show up on Lowrider magazine with that thing lol
@@MakeItKustom don’t see why not, unique and nasty. It’s all about the name…
more complicated than one would think. Excellent video
Thanks man ya this was a few squinty eyed ponders lol
Lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut! Awesome Karl.
Fantastic Karl and Brent!
You do a Awesome work on your builds. It's great to look your videos.
Killer job!! So exciting to see it comes together. You and brent are like the A team of fabrication together.
Ha ha yeah man we work well together! It’s crazy how sometimes two people get more work done then tens, depending on who is standing around 😆
Hello Karl, love your outstanding build!
Excellent work Karl and Brent Look awesome
You may want to think about sway bar front n back, there’s gonna be a lot of body roll with only shocks, you can run higher pressure in the bags but it’ll ride rougher, thing looks killer dumped. Great looking truck, great build, you n Brent are great minded talented folks.
Thanks man ya definitely needs sway bar and shocks. I want it to ride stable safe and cushhhhyyyy
I’m fiending for the next zephyr video, but this thing looks so sweet I kinda want to see the bed come together!
I got you covered! Coming soon
I use to be a fabricator, I build heavy equipment and crap for a living for years and years, miss those days, bigtime! Good Job! Truck! gonna be a nice Garage Hauler when she's all said and done !!! congrats Boy's.
Reply
Thanks man I can’t wait. There are a few surprises coming!
Its looking really good! Can't hardly wait to see it done! If I'm feeling that way I can imagine how much more you want it done! Good job guys
Truck is so COOL . Great build .
You guys are a total team !!!!
This build is epic! Amazing engineering craftsmanship and artistry! Go Japhands and Halfass, keep moving forward!
I love that front suspension
You guy's are AMAZING! Love love watching and listening to you guy's Create an AWESOME truck! Can't believe how you can put information in the computer an it cuts it out! WOW!!
Its amazing what 2 great minds can accomplish. Should can that thing "sweet and low".
Love your work by the way. Learnt so much metal shaping from you.
So glad to hear it man! Thanks for your support
Awesome truck!! Love it ! Great teamwork ! Thanks for sharing !
6:00 Yeah, a little space seems to be the way to go. Just saw a guy in South Africa do the same thing while building a 4-link and watts link. Worked great.
Looks good. I can’t believe I was able to make it through the whole video.
❤👍 this truck is going to be a master piece.. i cant wait to see this going on adventures👍
I just love it ! I miss making stuff work on the fly.
Fantastic workmanship! Looks awesome!
❤🐕🐕❤ Beautiful Puppies❤
Master piece of work watching a master work his talent so entertaining
I love your show, I like to see your play list of music because I love Utube music, and I'll catch ya on the next one.
You guys are awesome 👌 you got it dialed in 🎉😊
_AWESOME SKILZ TA PAY THA BILZ!_
Needs some little caster wheels under those steps now.
Can’t wait for the ramp bed😊
Great build. If you had a hot tub after you'd know where your forearms were😂. Welded the stuff for my rotisserie attachments in the summer in short sleeves. Hot tub reminded me of that later lol. Carry on man, this one's a good one.
I love watching your channel, you’re very skillful. I think you should wire wheel that frame and paint it with some gloss, black rust oleum oil based enamel and be done with it. I don’t like powder coating frames, if it does happen to rust underneath the powder coat you can’t repaint it, if you just paint it, you can always paint over it again
Yeah, paint will be the way to go on this
That is some impressive engineering and fab. Plus added bonus, you could raise the cab and have picnics on that upper front arm. Haha, nice.
Congrats Karl, that's a big milestone in getting the truck on the road 😎
Thanks Chris!
Carl your the man ,very nice love the shows can't wait for the next one ,just picked myself up a deburring tool ,best 40 bucks spent ,you inspired me to work on my own project again 40 Ford 2 door sedan, that's for the great videos ,thanks for the motivation 👍
Honestly man, there’s nothing I like hearing more than someone picking up on their project because this community on TH-cam is so positive and inspiring. Thank you for your support!
looks just like the rendering 👍👍😎👍👍
I would use seam sealer, or even painters, caulking on all the seams that you didn’t weld completely and then get a spray can primer and then go over everything with gloss, black rest, oleum oil based enamel paint
I think I will be fully welding all the suspension arms when they come out to paint
Hey man awesome build!
I just found your channel, subscribed and binged this build over the last week.
Love the old COE’s.
I’m just down the road in Kelowna. Maybe see you at some of the shows in the new year 🍻
Awesome Nick stoked you dig the build and our local! I’m around I’m sure we’ll meet someday
@@MakeItKustom cool! I have a ‘64 Impala SS drop top. See you at the shows🍻
Everybody has the koolest shop dogs--no exception with you Karl!😎
Did I see some Japhands from Make it Custom. Love that guys work
Givin me some major ideas for my old International COE guys. Great vid
56:10 That is slicker than owl chit right there!
Epic progress
G'day mate, when you get the truck on the road. Test the front axil unloaded, that axil is carrying a lot of weight unloaded. The truck loaded with 3 tons, under brakes, while turning, will exceed the pressure on the axil ten fold. Be aware. Great video, I watch most of your content and Brent's may I add. You're good blokes, take care. Hooroo se ya later 👍
Thanks mate take care. 👍 hooroo mate se ya later
dude you cheered up a wet & cold thursday
Glad I could do that!
Hell yeah brother! Awesome work as always!
Nice job Carl What a cool build wow 👌 best channel on the tube the fabrication going on is superb 👍
Thanks a lot man! Really having fun with this truck
Awesome! Now could someone send this man a new torch? 😂
I would have to have some adjustment somewhere to be able to change alignment in the future. Also I can't help but think that with the suspension arms running forward, the frame needs some serious triangulation to keep it from flexing sideways, even more so with those 2 cross members gone. From the factory most of the suspension forces go through the rear spring mounts (fronts are on shackles, so they only see the weight no sideways or fore aft forces)
Absolutely the frame will get some more strengthening upfront. I definitely don’t want to under build this truck. As for the alignment, I feel pretty confident with where it is and the factory never had any adjustment. I put it in the factory location, geometry wise. It should ride pretty damn straight and good, but maybe I’ll eat my words when I take it for a test drive. Hopefully you’ll be around for it! Lol
Дятька , ты лучший !!!
Them deburring tools are the shit, don't know how I got by without them, sure a time saver.
So Sick !! just can't wait to see a bed on this
A note on your de-bur tool for left handers. They are made for right handed operation. They work very poorly when held in the left hand. If you have trouble with them swap to your right even if it feels uncomfortable, they'll work better.
Awesome you two..hey Esther..😎♥️
Picking up on ACatKrom's comment - I thik that you still have one degree of freedom untamed in your linkage. This would be solved by having a Panhard rod going transversely between the chassis and the axle - possibly behind your top link. Without this, the lateral forces will steer the front axle - maybe producing some interesting effects during turning!
Actually, this set up does keep it from going left to right as well. It’s kind of hard to wrap your head around. It took me a while lol.
I really like the original stance of the truck how are you going to tackle it without losing the look love your work 👍
Excellent video once more! Thank you for taking the time to produce these as I love watching them! One question though, and it comes from someone who has no experience of these things, would that front mount for the trailing A frame need to have a mount that can rotate to take care of any "twisting" of the axle when one wheel is pushed upwards but the other side does not? Or does the bush that you've fitted take care of that?
This is something I should definitely cover in a video and show since it did surprise me as well. How much movement of urethane bushings actually have. We accidentally tried it and blue line. It had no problem twisting that far and did not damage to bushings. It will never see that kind of movement since it will have a sway bar, but I will make a video showing its articulation in the future.
Looking good guys 👍👍
Looking wicked
Your designing and workmanship are first class!..... I see three potential issues though, that you may want to re-consider (or not).... First, The front link on that a-arm should be a ball joint so that it can twist when only one front wheel goes up an incline, such as turning into a driveway......Second, I can see clearly by the rotation of the steering wheel as you as you lowered the truck off the jack stands....Zero bump steer would have resulted in no rotational movement of the wheel and I saw about 45 degrees of movement... Third, I hope you engineered in enough positive caster since you made everything non adjustable, otherwise it may be a challenge to go down the road straight at speed...
I love watching this progress and salute your fearlessness in tackling such a large project!
I don’t think the hiems or Johnny is necessary but certainly and upgrade. I am not sure tho. I expect it will wear out first with the most load of the front bushings but maybe I get a year 5? 10 ? Yea it moved and and then moved back? I figured the shifting weight just rolled it a bit. It has 7 degrees caster as factory stock ride hieght had. All great points Don! You know you’re stuff!!!
Hey Carl,
That was a lot of engineering and fabrication.
It will likely twist some minds when they try to figure it all out.
I suspect the first place you have any bushing problem is going to be the single one at the top of the "A", But you are going to have to put a lot of miles on the rig before that happens.
Great Job guys !
Yep I think you’re totally right. It will wear out first but hopefully I get some good miles on it before then!
On the pavement I tell ya! Nice!
I hope your friend, whose place burned down that has “Halfass custom” was able to get a home. I was sorry to hear his place burned down! Hopefully something has worked out for him!
Yes, his new shop is up and being moved into as we speak! Thank you for your concern. He’s a great guy.
@@MakeItKustom good to hear! Thanks for letting me know! He does seem like a good person!
Karl you might want to get a 3D program called sketch up it can help finding out issues with the design of parts before you cut them out
Karl, I have a question, You installed essentially solid bushings in your suspension links. This should work fine if both wheels go up & down at the same time, every time, however that's not how the road is. There are times when one wheel will go up & the other will either stay the same or possibly go down into a pot hole. This will cause the bushings to twist & bind, ultimately causing excessive wear on the bushings &/or fatigue cracks in ends of your arms & ultimate failure. This is why suspensions are built with rubber bushings that will allow a certain amount of twist. Race cars are built with solid bushings or heim joints, however they don't have potential twist in their design. As a test, jack one wheel up & watch what the other wheel does..............it'll go up exactly the same amount, which is not good. I love the build, but I see a safety issue here.
also maybe use air actuated cab latch. cool project!
Thanks for sharing 😀👍
cool.. thanks..
..Black Art Forge..
Lots of the multi- link rear suspensions have some adjustability. If you ask me, they are all too complicated and prone to failure. Bulding it simple and durable, thats the way to go. Only concern is articulation of the front end. Spare bushings and a method to replace them is all you could do.
Yeah, I do have a spare, so I’ll keep it with me. I like simple stuff and I’m confident with a tape measure lol.
worried about the twist also
Wooow that truck is awesome kool
What engineering! There were 665 likes before me, so I had to take one for the team and smash that 666th like before I even watched. I was correct. .
Is that you Justin?🤣
Ha ha ha so close to Halloween also lol
All I can say is awesome.
OMG... Karl Fisher, and your good friend Brent Hoitink, what have you lads done?
That BMF of a truck is gonna smash it, and I don't mean when you slammed it to the ground.
I know I'm gonna have too but I can't wait to see the finished project. It will be amazing as well as bad ass.🤘
It's probably too early to think of right now, but stay with me. You may already have a colour in mind, yes? So, as it's a bad ass machine with a serious attitude, how about painting it yellow, with black stripes? Give it that Bruce Lee bad ass attitude like he had in the film, Game of Death.
You know who he is, don't you, Karl? Of course you do, but for the much younger viewers, how about "The Bride," played by Uma Thurman in Kill Bill 😆 She rocks in that jumpsuit, right? much better looking than Bruce. He didn't have the right curves.🤭
Okay, that's the nice comments dealt with. Now comes the criticism. Don't worry, I'll be gentle with you lads. 😂
Who did your editing, The Mummy? Or perhaps a Sasquatch popped by, and did you a favour?
This is not up to your usual standard, Karl. There's too many mistakes, far too many to list, and whoever did the cutting, splicing, or editing, was not on the ball, especially synchronising the music. I'm going with Sasquatch. Am I right?
When removing the crossmember, did you cover up the fact that you set fire to one of the electrical wires that Brent put in? I'm sure I saw a little bit of black tape that wasn't there before. Or was it just the outer covering burnt to a crisp?
Karl: we'll just get some tackies on it. It looks good, it feels good, and is good.
Brent: It'll be fine 😅
So, I guess the next question is, what sort of body will it have? When will you start fabrication? And will Brent have anymore to do with the truck?
Thanks for entertaining me guys. 👏👏👏🫡🤘🍻🇬🇧🇺🇦🇮🇱
Yeah, Brent wants to come back to help with the deck. I have a bunch of crazy ideas for the deck. It is not going to be simple. It is not going to be straightforward. It will be the most useful deck in waves you can’t imagine lol.
good job man 👍💪
It's alive!
