    Floor speakers all day. Bookshelf speakers are a space-related compromise.

    1. Bookshelf speakers, on stands, take up, virtually, the same amount of floor space as towers. 2. Bookshelf speakers, with stands and a subwoofer can easily cost as much or more than comparable towers. 3. Since when do bookshelf speakers not need to be as far apart as towers?

    • @SuperSteamengine

      Even if investing for towers , whats the actual purpose of them while watching a movie ? Center channel does all the hardwork right ? Rest all are for the background sounds or sorround tone sounds. And in for stereo music - yeah it works.
      And another thing almost all recomends set the crossovers as 80hz and none of the towers are not doing there job as it suppose to do.
      So why people are investing so much money for these ones ? ( i am a movie lover and using 5.2.2 config ) all book shlvs.
      Thank you

    Well, I went with another option.. Thirteen years ago I hung my Axiom M-80's from the ceiling! Been loving it ever since..
    It's a dedicated H/T.. 21' long, 12' wide screen wall..
    Two eye bolts in the top, with a smaller one on the back, near the bottom.. I used that to adjust for leaning angle, by pulling it back and attaching it to the screen wall.. I set the toe in while they were on the floor, then matched that with the ceiling hooks.. Hung the center as well..
    Over the years I've mentioned my set up on a few other sites, and I'm surprised no else has ever tried it? Concerts venues and sports arenas have been flying speakers since the 60's..
    Just like a certain drink company might say, I gave my speakers wings.. 👍

    For ALL music, you need floorstanders for the full range response, but for a budget audiophile setup, a pair of quality bookshelves will usually suffice...

  • @mazx19
    @mazx19 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The more drivers you have the more crossovers you need. Crossovers are hard to implement well and when done poorly sound much worse than one coherent driver. For most people most of the time they would be best served with a nice pair of bookshelf speakers. The amount of people who actually need towers is very small. If your room is not sound treated and you are spending less than $2k on a pair of speakers your better off with bookshelfs.

    Hi Chris. Hope everything is going well with you. I just want to say that I love the videos, the way you speak and present things are top notch. My "but" is that you don't release very much content with weeks and weeks going by without hearing from you. I can honestly say that if you were more consistent with your reviews that you could easily be on the top end of most watched TH-camrs available today. I think you really have a great flow surrounding your channel and I wish you all the best!
    P.S. I heard of the Hisense L9G because of you. I got excited for the Hisense L9G because of you. And I bought the Hisense L9G because of you.

    Great overview. I’ll add with bookshelf speakers, having the drivers up higher avoids having them pointing at your feet as they are higher up on a stand as some towers have their drivers down low.

    Definitely a bit oversimplified but good in a general sense. Three things I'd add are that 1) Towers need a subwoofer too as even the ones with built in subs aren't really that great and you can't always place a tower for best bass response unlike a subwoofer 2) Some towers are actually less efficient than bookshelf speakers such as Jamo S807 being only 83db sensitivity with the average bookshelf being around 86db so the bookshelf would have bigger sound ironically 3) Towers can actually be worse than a bookshelf as a surround depending on where/how you have them placed with issues such as if you cant see the drivers while seated such as behind the couch in that one picture means that you could have a lack of output meaning it could have worse bass /midrange. Adding an extra driver usually adds about 3db of extra output so the designer will generally make the tweeter play 3db louder but if you're blocking one of the woofers then now your speaker will be brighter as you figure a lot of times bass woofers will be playing 1500 hz and below so you'll have issues from there and below. Plus the extra sensitivity and output generally isn't needed due to sitting closer to the speakers.

      Floorstanders only need a sub, if they're not quality floorstanders...if you're not getting the best response out of them, then quite obviously you've made a poor choice...FACTS...

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bryanp4827 sound is completely subjective. Some people, like myself, prefer excessive bass which is why I will always prefer subwoofers. The only time I’ve been happy without them is with towers with built in subs.

    • @TylerStout
      @TylerStout 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bryanp4827 Very few towers are capable of hitting 105db dynamic peaks in movies at 40hz let alone 20hz without serious amounts of distortion. Even good quality music will have around 10db of dynamic range so if you're listening at 85db you still need to able to hit 95db at the MLP which is not an easy task if you're sitting 15 feet away. There are some towers that can but I hope you're ready to shell out $20k plus for a pair. However a pair of Polk R700 paired with two SVS ported subs is going to be noticeably cheaper yet much better quality bass especially after you factor in the price of an amp to give full range towers enough juice to make bass.

In 2013, when I got my Home Theater Setup (Yamaha RX-A720 amp), the Paradigm's got paired with it, and my surrounds were a pair of Boston Acoustic Bravo 20, the center was a Paradigm.
    The setup got sold along with the house... :(

    In your home cinema, have you tried the Epson Pro Cinema LS12000? If so, why would you not use that over your Epson 5050UB (which I assume you still use)? On paper, the LS12000 works out better in almost every way; only difference being price. The reason I originally thought of this was because the LS12000 uses a laser light source therefore lasts a lot longer.

    Hi Chris. Been watching your channel for a while and you do good work. Keep it up 😉
    One really important thing for people to realise which I only recently discovered myself is that speakers interact with the room. They need enough space behind and around them to sound correct. In my 12ft by 17ft room the bookshelf version of my floor standers ypao room corrected much more easily and simply out performed them when similarly crossed up at 80hz to my two paradigm subs. This was despite all speakers carrying horns and therefore narrower directivity. This was a really hard thing for me to accept!
    Those floor standers in your living room were awfully placed (sorry lol). If you put those bookshelves on some short stands on top your cabinet I'm sure they would sound a hell of a lot better. Perhaps some iso acoustics ones...

    Great vids Chris. A Question, can mixed sized subs as in size and ported/sealed be paired? I have a 10" sealed Velodyne mini v 2000 w dynamic/ 1000w rms. Can two subs be used from one sub out from receiver using a Y or don't go there? Receiver Pioneer Elite Sc-25 continuous power total of 700 watts(140w per channel) 8ohm, THD 0.09%. Speakers Paradigm Monitor 11 v.6, C CC-390 v.6 and S ADP-390 v.6. I need to update to a newer receiver to handle eArc and 4K or is there a device that can go between other components and my existing receiver? I am sure not so this means a once great receiver is now e-waste. I know I ask a lot but your knowledge could answer quickly compared to my floundering about trying to do the search for a device(s) that I don't know exist. Thanks.

    All I have to say is that if you need for some reason to consider a WAF (wife approval factor) when dealing with your favourite hobby, then maybe consider that before the relationship commitment begins. I feel very sorry for anyone who has to consider such issues. There are plenty of partners out there who are happy to support you in your hobby as you can support them in theirs. All people looking to commit should talk about their thoughts on children, politics, religion, and audio before it is too late 🤘

    • @TylerStout
      @TylerStout 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely a better option if you're going for stealth as you can either paint the grills your wall color or you can make custom paintings to hide them behind using custom printed fabric that is breathable and frame it (and not use the metal speaker grill). As for sound based on Erin's Audio Corner they are more hit or miss in terms of sound quality compared to box speakers. Plus a lot of them don't have backer boxes so essentially your speaker box is your wall cavity which might not be ideal for the drivers but on the flip side due to them not being in the room you won't get SBIR which is bass reflecting off the wall behind the speaker and bouncing back canceling the sound at specific frequencies based on distance to the wall. Also from an installation standpoint you also have to place the speaker between studs so that can limit where they need to go or look funny if your can't be centered between the studs.

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a good point. I actually have some in wall speakers that I never installed because I regularly change screen sizes and test other speakers but yes. In wall speakers work great for stealth.

    Hey,
    Your videos have been extremely interesting and educational for me. I do however have a problem which I couldn't fix with your videos. I was hoping you would be able to help me with this through the comments. So here Goes!
    I have bought a new receiver (Denon avr 3310) and new speakers (teufel ultima 40) but am not able to get sound out of it all the time.
    This is how I set it up:
    I connected my Chromecast to the receiver. The receiver and also my Playstation 4 are connected to my television (LG smart TV) through HDMI. The Playstation can't go through my receiver as it will induce input lag which makes games unplayable.
    Im running a toslink cable from my Tv's optical out port to my receivers optical in port (receiver does not support arc) and my speakers are bi-wired. I also have a subwoofer connected through a regular subwoofer cable (rca?). Then I also have a record player connected through rca directly to the receiver.
    The problem is that not all devices are able to give me sound.
    The Chromecast and the record player are producing sound just fine!
    My Playstation 4 will only sometimes give sound through the speakers, I havent found what this depends on.
    My TV however (built in apps such as Netflix or youtube) will never give sound through my speakers. The TV is set to send sound through the optical cable but this doesn't seem to be working. The optical port should be working, as my previous receiver never gave any problems.
    I'm hoping you can help me out as I really can't find the problem, I have tried to switch up all the receiver settings but nothing seems to work. I'm hoping I'm just simply missing something.
    Thank you for your time!!
    Best regards,
    Wessel

    Too many exaggerations. There are cheap dn expensive floor and bookshelf speakers.
    You still need to leave spacing between bookshelf speakers as well for imaging and soundstage..that is not a tower speaker only thing.
    As for bookshelves sometimes having better sound again that is just silly...it all dependa on the speaker and even when crossover at 80hz, a good tower will have a fuller more robust sound because a crossover is not a hard brick wall.
    Also, you are forgetting getting high quality stand for the bookshelves and that on a stand they are less stable than a tower.
    Sure you can place a bookshelf speakers on a shelf or desk but that is a terrible setup I'd you are not able to place the pass the edge of the surface due to reflections.
    But looking at your setup with speakers within the cabinet edges well...it's obvious that you have a lot to learn
