I disagree with the winner, iv tested both for a month each on road only to see which one to buy, the petrol engine and the comfort of the land cruiser as well as the 10 speed auto were way better than the x5, not to mention the reliability and the longevity of the japanese are also better than the x5 and knowing full well that at any moment you can easily take the land cruiser for an off road cruise, and for me the land cruiser looks a lot better. And so for these reasons I took the land cruiser without a second thought. But overall good review.

I have owned an X5 4D for the last 11 years. I'm buying a new boat for my retirement and need to tow on road long distance with a heavy load - so have ordered a Landcruiser 300. Also want to do some offroading. The Landcruisers hold their resale much better - I'm looking at about $22k trade-in for the X5 & the equivalent age cruiser would be worth 50 - 60K. Interestingly people say the resale is based on poor reliability as cars age - I have had minimal problems with the X5 over the period I have owned it & still drives very well. Going to miss that nice handling around town though....

Well as both a BMW and Toyota fanboy, I'd go for the Land Cruiser as the only reason I'd get an SUV is for utility. BMWs should be fun little rwd saloons/coupés, which is what they became renowned for. SUVs have just cheapened and diluted the brand, aimed at people who don't know any better

SUVs make it easier for more developent to be made on the RWD sedans and coupes that we like. Who cares if it ''dilutes'' the brand, as I've never seen anybody complain about that 2 series active tourer that was here a few years back. In Europe, they even have base models with 140HP (118i, 318i), and nobody bats an eyelid.
I wouldn't mind if BMW makes 10 more new SUVs, if they can put out a car with the perfection of the F87 M2 and G80 M3

I also think that a beast like the X5M is more of a genuine BMW than a rental spec 118i. Either way, it doesn't matter to me, as I have a G20 330i, which I doubt anybody has anything against.

I think there were some points that I disagree with in the video. For example, the LC won in engines when you only have one engine option but the BMW has many options from tt v8's to i6 options with more power to even a plug in hybrid. Also the rear interior.. that was the base option with just the vents. You can get 4 way climate control and heated and cooled seats in front and back in the x5 too if you spec it. So while the BMW won, since this is an on-road test, it should have won by a bigger margin. Also, wouldn't the x7 be the correct car to compare the LC300 with if you go by physical size?

I have NEVER had a single issue with any of them(nothing). It(they) just keep going without any fuss. Not a single creak or rattle or lead. and yes I have done some serious off road.
They had all been regularly serviced. The 200 at a Toyota dealership. the other 2, not necessarily. But they were well maintained. They don't pretend to be(in my opinion) anything other than a well designed, ultra reliable vehicle that is designed to do a range of tasks(day to dating, 4x4ing, Towing, touring(to every corner of Australia) without a fuss. Not designed to be a road car(like X5), they are designed to tow up to 3500kg. Who seriously would tow 3500kg with a vehicle that is held together with a bucked load of spot welds and a few screws(I'm only joking, I'm sure they use hundreds of (self tapping) screws). The latter will not be the case with the X5, though.

Well I have both a BMW 116i and a land cruiser Prado 2.8L diesel turbo. I like both cars, but the Prado wins hands down for me. It's actually faster in a straight line, will go anywhere and is way more comfortable than the BMW by a country mile. Way more room and space inside, better tech, better display 10 inch apposed to the little skinny display in the BMW. The Prado has 360o cameras, terrain camera, anti collision warning, land departure warning, pedestrian and cycle warning, corner collision warning, adaptive adjustable cruise control, and a very nice light blue back lit display and buttons and a fridge in the centre consol.
The BMW we have has non of those things. But I use the cars for completely different purposes. The Prado is used for going to ski resorts and driving in snow in winter, camping in summer and going off road when I go do photography in difficult to reach places and for long journeys. The BMW is simply used as a short commuter and for blasting around the mountain roads as it handles way better than the Prado as one would expect. It is also much cheaper to run so good as a daily driver. Two totally different cars for two totally different purposes. I enjoy both cars but in totally different ways.

The hood flexes because it’s made of aluminium. Also you pressing the front bumper, and saying it’s shoddy build quality. Pretty much all vehicles have plastic front bumpers. This is simply how all modern cars are built including the X5 which you chose not to press the front bumper in the video. There are regulations and rules that says a cars front bumper have to withstand a bump at low speed and absorb that bump without bending. Also front bumpers have to be compatible with pedestrian crashes.

Just out of curiosity: wouldn´t it be (engine wise) more correct to compare the LC300 with the X5 xdrive 40d, considering that the 40d comes with an actual twin turbo set-up and not the twin scroll set-up? Because then the comparison would be about two 5 seat SUVs with 6-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engines? And then I think the prize-point will also change, since the 40d is somewhat more expensive than the 30d. Otherwise a very cool comparison!!!

That was the most pointless review I have ever seen. The Sahara ZX & the X5 are two different cars built for different purposes. Whilst the ZX is the "road going model" it definitely is not driver focussed, it's an off-road & tow vehicle. BMW prides itself on driving dynamics, and that still translates to their SUV ranges. Whilst the X5 is big, it's basically a big car/wagon and it has no place being compared to a 4WD. I don't think anyone in the market for an X5 actively drives a Cruiser for comparison, they are more likely to compare it to a GLE. Even the Rangie Sport and Discovery don't really compare to the X5 due to them being luxury off-road models, they compare more to the Sahara ZX. Nice try but anyone with minimal car knowledge knows that the review was highly flawed from the get go.

I’ll buy x5, here’s why, they’ve topped customer satisfaction for last 4 years in the same list Toyota is 7th place. X5 has b58 straight 6 arguably the best modern engine which is reliable(even new toyota Supra uses it). X5 has Split tailgate when street parked you need less space to open it. Comparatively new infotainment, makes hassle free driving while listening to your wirelessly connected devices, Extended moonroof gives a less cluster phobic experience to second row passengers, cabin insulation, safety and highway cruising. Most importantly we should admit that none of us are taking any of these vehicles on off-roading. No question about selling unless anything breaks. All this BMW being unreliable shit comes from people who do untasteful modifications that can happen to Toyotas too, the difference is the age, income group buying these brands and their driving habits. I had a Honda for 10 years and a BMW for 8, both saved me from multiple small, serious accidents and required no to minimal repairs(good build quality) other than routine services.
