Very clever! When my son with ADD was 4 y/o (now 28) we were on our annual fathers day remote canoe adventure. I had to entice him with snacks along the way, and one of his favorites was pudding cups. We stopped for a promised pudding break, and to my horror I forgot the spoon. He started to frown, and I said, "not to worry we will find one in the woods." His reply, "sure, how you gunna do that?" I pulled out my pocket knife and we waked into the woods for a green stick. I had never carved a spoon or even contemplated one, but this was no time to fail! With great difficulty I made a "pudding stick" and I was a hero in his small mind. He took it on several subsequent trips. Fast forward... past 4 years I've been carving spoons with "proper tools", but yours is the most clever!
I never thought of using the chip carving method for making the bowl of the spoon. I'm 70 years old and still learning. Thanks for the video my good Sir.. 🇨🇦
This is a really awesome video! Reminds me of the Knife Only Pipe video that got me into crafting. As a spoon carver myself, I was curious how he would form the bowl. If anyone is interested in spoon carving, I would highly recommend Anne of All Trades. She has some great resources for getting started and growing as a carver. Great work as always!
Sieht richtig gut aus!👍 Danke für den Tipp, das werde ich auf jeden Fall ausprobieren. Macht immer wieder Spaß dir zuzuschauen! Viele Grüße aus Deutschland und bleib gesund!👋
Mam watching you draw the wood over the knife instead of the knife across the wood with your leg for bracing was brilliant. Thank you for teaching the world these lost arts. Keep it up man!
I can't recall if you have done a video on the different types of wood to carve and the ease or difficulty of different woods to work with with the knife. I enjoy watching you carve.
I don't have a video covering wood types specifically. Where I live most woods are relatively soft. The hardest wood I carve is birch but it's still a nice wood to work with. Species like Poplar and Cottonwood are softer and are very easy to carve.
Knife-Only is a great video template, thanks. Very good, just check out the one on the pipe, I didn't even remember it was yours, the other day I saw yours about not having 90º on the knives, and I just saw the one on the beaver
Awesome stuff Ryley. You got me into carving/whittling, so much so that I went and purchased a carving kit. Carved a few wooden mushrooms and 2 spoons recently. You're an inspiration mate, keep it up! Amazing content.
Way better then my knife skills sir! Best I could have done with that stick is turn it into a tooth pick. Do you do any sort of treatment process on the utensils you make, or just use as is?
Thank you for watching! After I finished the carving process the spoon was washed in plain cold water. After allowing it to dry completely I then oiled it using walnut oil (tung oil also works great.)

Probably developed ADD from that processed pudding garbage
Wowww, what a great technique to carve the concave part!!
I think a lot of people need to do carving. It's really relaxing for the mind and helps relieve stress.
It's definitely a relaxing hobby! Thanks for watching.
I just started today. Loved it.
This is one of the coolest spoons I've ever seen
Beautifully calm content right here, just Beautiful.
A different type of spoon. Very creative to make a rectangular y-shape. This is stronger than the regular form.
Good work man🌤🇸🇪👍
Thanks for tuning in!
Felix Immler sent me. Super skills with a larger blade. Nice spoon
Never thought of the chip carving method. I like it..Thanks
I love watching you carve it's the best

That's awesome! Carving is definitely a great hobby. Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself. Thank you so much for the support! Happy trails!
This is amazing! How did you learn?
What kind of knife are you working with? Awesome job
Wow, this three lines trick is so usefull. What kind of wood it is?
Man, when are you gonna start selling those pants?
I'd be the first to buy them!
I'd sure like to. Maybe one day I'll get there!

Those are neat jeans what kind are they
What type of knife do you use for your camping trips
Mainly the Helle Sigmund that's shown in this video.
Great knife , I can't describe the blade style however?
Obviously Helle makes very original styles not your run of the mill drop point etc
It's a great knife indeed. Always a pleasure to carve with. Thanks for watching!
Remember....cut towards your buddy and not your body!
It's nice , but.... I see no spoon...
Nice job fellow chucker.. but maybe start with a smaller piece of wood instead of a giant log! 🪓 🤔
