  • Orlando Magic with Shaq and Penny were destined to be the franchise to be reckoned with in the second part of the 90s, and it all changed when Shaq's contract was up, and Orlando messed it up.

Just like how they let Hedo walk immediately after their '08-'09 Finals run. Incompetent management. Yeah focus and publicize his free throws. Where nearly everywhere else he was one of the all time best.

Morning signed for 105 million for 7 years, 15 million a year and the magic offered shaq 54 million for 4 years, 13.5 milliona year. So the magic offered shaq 3 less years and 1.5 million less per year when shaq was a way better player then morning. Morning was a very good center. Shaq was an all time great. Then just look at the star power of shaq vs morning. Shaq brought in so much more publicity/ shine then morning. Its apple's to orange's.

Orlando Magic is one of the low-key worst and stupid ownership and front office of all-time.

When you watch the 30 for 30 for the Magic it’s hilarious watching the Magic execs try to defend them selves by saying “Oh it was Shaq’s agent who influenced him into going to LA he didn’t want to go there!” Yet you see they just didn’t want to pay Shaq and thought he wouldn’t leave

Had the magic kept shaq with penny, nick anderson, Dennis Scott, Horace grant. They would’ve stopped Mj from winning more rings. In 96 the magic were injured. The bulls also had to add rodman to slow shaq down cuz they could not contain him. Magic were also not in there prime just yet.

You’re exactly right! Many people forget that Horace Grant and Brian Shaw were both out that series. Horace was a big reason they beat the Bulls the previous year in the playoffs.

In 4 seasons with the magic shaq averaged 27.2 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. Remember these are his first 4 seasons and he wasn't in his prime. Alonzo averaged 21.7 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.0 blocks and after the big contract his numbers went down. Shaqs went up and stayed elite for another 9 years.

  • @natalieps2387

Magic should have given him the moon to stay bc I believe the magic would have won a title. They were so young & talented they def could have knocked off the bulls in maybe 97 & 98. If they did not want to pay him then they should have at least traded him to get something rather than nothing. Too bad penny got hurt bc he was really good. They went to the finals when they got penny. The best duo is a big man & a point guard bc the point guard is more interested in being the best assist man . R.i.p. kobe but he took an awful lot of shots that of course he was gonna rack up points. A guy taking 40 shots if he hits 25& he is scoring at least 20 if u count some are 3s plus free throws. Was mj a ball HOF at times yes. But that was more in his early years. He had to be a passer bc pippen scored over 20 ppg

You would think Orlando maybe win at least one title. They were set up for a great run. Shaq leaving in 1996 set the franchise back and outside of their 2009 run to the Finals, Orlando really never recovered.

@@ShaneBales That wouldn’t have played that Bulls team, since they were dismantled. The Magics had all the makings of being a Dynasty. Even if the Bulls would’ve stayed intact that would’ve been a helluva rivalry. They were 1-1

"I hate the business of basketball. They should make a rule where you have to stay where you were drafted". Basically shaq dismissing any accountability he had in the situation. Magic came close to matching. He just had it stuck in his head that he needed to make more than mourning. I'm not saying he was wrong to take the money but there we as ego involved. He made the financial decision and left that magic team. Take some of the accountability for your decision Diesel.

They still haven't retired Nick Anderson's jersey. They messed up Nick, Shaq and Penny. Although they made it to the Finals with Dwight Howard, messing up the team will haunt Orlando forever.
