      @Robert Johnson I think so too. The wheels would have fallen off the wagon. Shaq and Penny would be in their primes and rule the Eastern Conference. Their main rivals would have been the Pacers and the Knicks.

      When they started 3D in 95-96, I thought the Bulls were going to have the same problems they had the previous season with the Magic. They easily had the best starting 5 in basketball and I remember Penny schooled Jordan the first game they played that year while Shaq was on the shelf. But man they got outcoached, outplayed, and swept again.

    Penny was huge in the 90s. As an MJ fan, I thought he's the perfect guy to receive that baton from MJ. Penny and Shaq was the new school NBA at that time. To those who has never witness Penny, I just put it like this, if I'd been in a comma from 1994 and wake up in 2000 and see Shaq and Kobe, I'd ask what happen to Penny Hardaway? There's no way Penny is not a top 3 player at peak if not because of that injury.

    • @kebotize
      @kebotize 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol, penny could not score with either pippen or jordan. He was good but dont say that. Pippen holds his own greatness. In fact pippen > penny coz pippen brings more to the table. Penny dont deserve top 50 all time great, pippen does. Penny was equal to kobe or better at the time. Its sad, they were not coached as good as brown nor phil. Nobody beats MJ in his era, its just a fact and pippen is the boy wonder.

      Not a bias thought, but chicago that time is an all-star team, which actually started the idea of creating a big 3 combo to get a championship. Magic that time are 90% 24yo below, except for horace grant. And yet beat the bulls in the 1995 eastern finals.

    Just ONE freethrow. Just ONE and I think the confidence and momentum from game 1 would have carried the Magic over the Rockets in that Finals series.

    • @ChrisM07
      @ChrisM07 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't think so, the only reason the Rockets almost lost that game was they got outrebounded by a wide margin they fixed that problem after G1.

    • @TheCarlson25
      @TheCarlson25 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisM07 I agree lots of times a team can steal game one and surprise people but that has no bearing on the series maybe they make it a best of 6 and that would be it. Rockets came back from deficits all year that year. 76ers won game one of the 2001 finals when the Lakers went 15-1 in the playoffs. Magic stole a game one from the raptors when they made the playoffs a few years ago but still lost the series to the eventual champions. I think pacers even stole a game one from the eventual champion of the lebron heat and I'm sure there are many more examples. I think if magic win game one it would have gone to game 6 with rockets winning. I'm a magic fan saying all this to

    Was a Bulls fan but I was also such a huge Penny fan (had the black jersey and the sneakers, too). If he didn't go through all those injuries over and over, he could have been Kobe-level (same thing could be said about GHill). Young people don't realize that young Penny was a legit young superstar just a few years before Kobe arrived. He did not score as much as Kobe but he could do everything. Always flirting with a triple double. And just as exciting to watch as Kobe or AI or T-Mac or Vince. In 1994-95, only his 2nd season. Penny averaged 21 pts, 5 rebs, 7 asts, shot 51% from the field. Penny & Shaq led the Orlando Magic all the way to the NBA Finals. They were on their way to winning game-1 vs Hakeem's Rockets. They were leading all the way, down to the closing minute, when Nick Anderson missed 4 consecutive FT's. Damn!

    The only thing the 2009 Magic had over the 1995-1996 Magic was the bench (Gortat, Pietrus, Redick, Alston, etc.). Lewis and Turkoglu might have given some match up problems, maybe, but Nick Anderson, Shaq and Penny were superior to their 2009 counterparts. Still, the 2009 Magic were the ones able to win at least 1 finals game.

    • @IanLEAU
      @IanLEAU 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I would argue that the Orlando Magic in 1995 had a way bigger challenge than their 2009 counterpart. That 95 team went up against a loaded Houston Rockets with Hakeem and Clyde as their big-man/little-man combo, then you had great shooters like Sam Cassell and Kenny Smith (yes I said it, Kenny was a great shooter). I felt the Rockets were such a dangerous defensive unit back in the 90s as well compared 2009's Lakers.
      I dunno, it's a matter of opinion I guess, but that would sum up why Orlando got swept.

    Shaquille has never been fed the ball like he did when Penny used to serve him. I was in denial the whole time. Penny was humble as hell. Had Shaquille stayed, Kobe would be Kobe without chips. Shaquille would be neck and neck with Kareem. I can't give anyone Wilt status.

    In answer to his question, yes he did make a mistake! If he stayed and all things stayed the same, He still would have won his 3 championships and maybe even in 99. Then I wouldn't have to listen to people trying to compare Kobe to MJ, cause it would be Penny with all those rings and not Kobe!!!! lol.

    As great as that Magic team was, I'd have to say that Dennis Scott was the weak link on the starting five. All he could do was shoot (very one-dimensional and streaky). He wasn't quick, not particularly athletic, and not a great rebounder. Nick Anderson was solid until those missed finals free throws destroyed his psyche.

    • @cflo1386
      @cflo1386 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scarletbull Shaq > Dwight is the easiest one because of Shaq's size & power
